From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

A sincere thanks Vee!

V:So you're frustrated and sick of still being fat?

Q:YEP!

V:Good, you're right on track.

That helps a lot to hear. I can't wait for the 50 pound blur.

I will take you up on that offer I feel sure.

Oaks, I ran 4 days last week. Prior to the AM runs I was doing 3 runs a week. Before my knee injury it was 3-6 times a week. When I finally got to the point that I could run early this year I went 22 days straight (horrid idea). I doubt I'll go more than 5 runs a week while it's deer season. Rain kept me from having 5 days straight last week.

With the decrease in intensity of the AM runs the increase in frequency probably isn't getting me too much. I was running 2.5 - 2.65 miles a session indoors on a track and now it's 2-2.2 on the road. 8.4-10.5 miles/week (4-5x AM runs) up from 7.5-8.0 miles/week (3x PM indoor track runs) before. I know some of the reduced distance is dark road vs. lighted track, but I need to increase my distance to get the most out of it. I don't feel I am overdoing it. As a matter of fact I have a sneaking suspicion that this may evolve into an occasional AM + PM workout situation from time to time. I'll be much more likely to do strength training and yoga regularly if I don't have to chose between them or running.

It's going to be 31 degrees for tomorrow's run. I never warmup. I should, but I don't and below freezing isn't going to make that change.

282.0 this morning for a new low. That makes for 51.2 pounds lost this year. 22.2 pounds lost since October 1st.

AM Run
30 degrees
2.28 miles
30:31

I forgot to check, but my HR was much higher. Yesterday I averaged 139 BPM. Today's was probably in the 150s. I'll check tonight or in the morning. .12 mile further in about a half minute less time than yesterday.

I have to get my cold weather gear today as I just sort of threw things together and it wasn't good.

Off to the field.

30 degrees is cold! It was nicer up here (not that I know that from actually being outside). It's amazing what some solid cold weather gear can do. Lots of people complain about it being hard to breathe in low temps but I've thankfully never had that problem and I've run in the low 20s. I'll probably need to invest in some fleece lined tights this year, though.

Curious if you have then-and-now pics? Might help your current frustrations with your journey if you can take a look at the change. Or even throw on a pair of pants from 50 lbs ago?

Anyway, it's obviously not slowing you down, and that's a good thing.

Oaks, I have asthma and the cold kills my lungs. I struggled and spat a lot today. Last winter I figured out that a bandana was just enough to warm the air a little without suffocating me. I will be a bandit tomorrow. I bought high end spandex long johns with vents in some key places. Very comfy and warm to run in and they wick well and vent the appropriate areas. I got them for <$10 on Amazon and regular price is %50. I bought one pair of teh pants, wore them once, and immediately ordered 2 more pair. Blackhawk is the brand should anyone be interested.

I haven't done that in a while LJ. I ditched all of my clothes that got to big. That's something I will continue to do. I make the commitment that I can buy new pants, but never bigger pants. If I let things go now it will be jogging pants until I can fit back into my pants. I have a pic from my first AM run that I could post, but I will have to think about a before and after. I do have a running outfit still that I started running in. That would work. So long as the frustrations don't turn into excuses I can be as frustrated as I please. Seriously though, that's solid advice. Thanks!

Thanks Vee! Running helps combat the cold. I was colder at 40 degrees in the field than running at 30 this morning.

Super easy field day. I walked a few thousand feet in a pasture.

Thanks Cate!

I caught up my running spreadsheet this evening and I hadn't done that sinec I fell and hurt my knee in June.

So aside from a few runs that I did not record distance and the run/walks at the very first of the year I have a new mileage total.

I've run 351.64 miles so far this year. Considering I lost most of 2 months to injury and infection I think making >400 miles for my first year will be a great success.

So 4th AM run in a row and the most apt scientific qualifier I can assign to this morning's run would be "dragging ass". Woof, not a fun one.

run
2.15 miles
30 mins

The bandana I used this morning was a new one and I couldn't really breath through it. I went back and forth between suffocating on wet fabric and suffocating on my own phlegm and mucus that my body produces when it's exposed to cold air in much the same way that a hagfish responds to stress.

282.0 again this AM.

So not a before and after, but I went to the store last night and tried on a hoodie in the same style and brand as one I own. My 3xlt is way too big, but I didn't expect a size large to fit. This is the first time I've had a size large shirt on ever. I'm wearing it over a long sleeve tshirt and a heavy canvas button up. It's a terrible picture and I like a sweatshirt with more length, but I was shocked and pleased with this. The right side is a zoom of the size sticker if that isn't clear. I will keep the 3xlt as it's expensive and just for work. But I like knowing I've dropped 3 sizes in it.

Clothing drops are a double edged sword: you're absolutely thrilled with all the progress, but after a while a surplus of perfectly good clothing (some of which you really like) starts to pile up. I've got some stuff that wasn't all that cheap that I just love, and I just can't wear it anymore. Even an extra large is starting to look comically big on me.

But it's a small price to pay. Excellent work.

I'm loving the picture, although I'm left wondering why guys always refuse to smile in pics? Anyway, you're obviously doing great, and fitting into a large will make it much easier to shop. And the running streak you've got going on is mighty impressive.

Thanks Clarissa!
Thanks Vee! You probably recall that I have been parting with the too big clothes. Mostly that has been 3xl shirts and all of the pants. If it's a work shirt I'll keep it as I don't care if it's too big and so long as I don't have any big pants I can't regain the weight to fit back into the shirts. I don't get to show my weightloss much anyway. I took off a hoodie to try that one on and still had 2 shirts under it. Today I have a too big shirt on, but since it's under a zipped up fleece hoodie under a zipped up ski coat no one can tell. It's 72 in here. I just checked.

Thanks Oaks! I've made a habit of not smiling in part because my eyes would look all squinty because of my fat cheeks. They don't really do that anymore, but I didn't think to smile. In my defense the pic was taken for reference and I just decided to share after the fact.

Here you go. That's about as smiley as it gets. I do have all my teeth contrary to east Texas tradition, but a toothy smile just looks a bit deranged for me.

I think I just said 'awww' out loud in my cube here at work. Thanks for obliging me! I've seen the toothy deranged smile in others, so I totally get it. Avoid getting that image into our heads, we still want to be friends with you.

Congrats on your progress since I've been gone, Q! Fantastic, seriously.

I saw a post a page or two back in your thread that I can really relate to about how you know you've made a lot of progress, but you're still fat. I've been feeling that way myself lately. I guess we just need to keep in mind that we're both less fat than we used to be and be happy with that for now. :p

Thanks so much Cory! You look great in your new avatar! You have a much thinner face for sure! You should post or at least make some then and now pics.

My personal prognosticator Mr. Vee assured me that this was perfectly normal and that I would hit a point where the loss was a blur and wake up skinny. Okay, I may have embellished that last part slightly. The large jacket put things in perspective. Yes, I'm still fat. Yes I will be for a while. BUT, I've never worn a large anything since childhood. We are getting there!

So I woke up this morning and couldn't do it. Four days in a row had me wiped out so I put on my running clothes and then went back to sleep in them. Kudos to my wife who got up and did strength training. This was a real need for a break and not laziness so I'm good with it. I wish I would have been up for something, but I felt too tired for anything.

I ate really salty food late last night knowing that it would be reflected on the scale. 284.6 is a bigger jump than I expected, but it's just water.

2,222 calories yesterday. I didn't eat enough during the day so I ended up having a bunch of summer sausage late to get close to calories. I was also hungry late or I would have come in under. I still feel tired so I didn't pack a gym bag. I need the rest.

Listening to your body and its needs is the best thing you can do. Sleep well!
