From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Thanks buddy! I hope you had a great day too! I think you'll like the site. The lady is rather cute too.

The problem with using the timer and just running is that I push too hard when I feel good. I hit my theoretical maximum HR at 181 (actually it's 182 for a couple more weeks), but I didn't feel bad at any time. Don't get me wrong I knew I was pushing hard, but I would have never guessed my HR was that high. I young, fit looking dude that had been walking tried to pass me towards the end so i took off and pushed out past him. With under a minute left I slowed and let him get past me, but I made him work hard for it. I felt good knowing I had him and better for not making him feel bad losing to an old fat man. I got a nod and a thumbs up from him. Good times!

:D That had me laughing out loud, take care!

I read that post twice & had such a big grin :D on my face. GO YOU!! Enough of the "old fat man" stuff though Mister! Well done Q. "Good times" indeed :) xo Cate

Way to teach those young kids a lesson Q.

As for the yoga, there appears to be several yoga instructors on my dating website, so I'm going to use those videos to impress them with my yoga knowledge.

Happy to entertain LaMaria!

I'll always be the old fat man to somebody Cate. At least for a while and then I can just be the old man to somebody after that.

Vee, that sounds like a plan. Yoga boy! Get it? Like "You go girl!".

I checked the HR monitor a couple times on the machine and it said 143 both times. That seems right. I got off work early today due to rain, but had to use the treadmill for the same reason.

I did a little dumbbell work afterwards.

I had to take the day off yesterday because I worked from 6:40 AM until 8:40 PM. It included a few miles of walking though, so no lost ground. I had to go to sleep as soon as I finished dinner which made for weird dreams. I can't wait to go home tomorrow. My wife has been tearing it up running while I've been gone. She ran her first non-stop mile this week. I'm super proud of her!

Yes Amber, when I'm not out of town. We run back and forth on a section of our road so that we don't have to stay at the same speed. She is a few months behind me because she had surgery around the time I started running, but she is catching up quick. She ran 1.2 miles in one go tonight. She has lost 4 pant sizes so far too. She hasn't lost as many pounds as I have, but she's much smaller than me. She's probably at least even on % BW lost. I imagine that by the time the weather cools this fall that we will be running 5Ks together. We've lost about 60 pounds between the 2 of us this year so far.

That is really good news Q! It's great that you are now both really sharing in the glory. Yes....GLORY! What you are doing is very impressive & you are inspiring others to get moving too. Well done xo Cate

Great to hear you´re supporting each other, it makes SUCH a big difference! And being proud of each other makes being proud of yourself feel even better.

Thank you Cate and Lamaria very much! I am super fortunate to have her and I am very fortunate to have you for support as well. We've now lost a combined 60.6 pounds this year!

I only did a few minutes of yoga Thursday to loosen my back. Yesterday (6/20) I did 20 minutes of yoga.

294.6 for week 8 of 60-90 weeks is -1.8 pound this week -16.4 pounds for 8 weeks and -38.6 pounds for the year. My average is now -1.5 pounds per week. That's 253 pounds by the end of the year at that rate.

Way to go Quercus! You and your wife are doing wonderfully! I'm glad that the two of you are able to have some fun together, that must make this process better :)

Thanks Jade! She makes it a lot more fun.

Run
Indoor Track

2.75 miles (+.16 mile 30 minute PR)
155 bpm avg hr

Running on an indoor track with AC was so much easier! My previous distance record was 2.59 miles on the road on June 5th. I will be doing that again. The wife ran 2.13 miles. Her first time to pass the 2 mile mark.

Yay for the wife! When running on the treadmill: remember that the machine is doing some of the work for you, raising the slope to the first higher level makes it more like running outside (don´t want to crash your party and probably you´re doing it already but if not it saves surprises when you get back outside after a longer episode of indoor running).

This was an actual indoor track LaMaria not a treadmill. My gym has an 1/8th mile track that circles around the main gym area. Here's a pic.

I set the treadmill to an incline of 3 (whatever that means) when I run on it. That seems a bit harder than running on flat ground, but any lower and my feet land too far onto the heels. The run before was a treadmill and I did not mention the slope, but it was 3.

I fell behind my 50 mile/month for the first time this month. I would have needed to hit 250 on the 12th, but I hit it on the 17th. I'm currently at 255.5 miles. The heat has hurt my miles per run and frequency, but that's expected. I also wasn't tracking my mileage and I had previously had to run multiple days straight at 3.5 miles each to hit the 50 mile mark. Now I'm just being reasonable with my running and trying to find balance with other activities and weightloss.

Reflections:

At 294.6 this Saturday I am below the point where my body weight could possibly fluctuate to 300. It is now entirely in my control that I will never be 300 pounds again in my life.

My weight loss is going slowly. I'm averaging 1.5 pounds per week for the year. My average since I started to focus on counting and estimating my calories more closely is 2.05 for the last 8 weeks. 1-2 pounds per week is the range of possible healthy fatloss. I am on the high end of that either way. I need to continue just as I have been.

At more than 6 months without alcohol I can say that its absence is key to my continued success. I am ready to further my commitment to not drinking beyond the end of the year. I will not entertain the idea of drinking until I reach a weight range that I want to maintain. I do like the idea of drinking in moderation while maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle. At this point it is just an idea just like being at a healthy weight. In achieving a healthy weight and active life without alcohol I will have earned the right to entertain the idea, but not before.

Recovery Run

I didn't need a recovery run, but I wanted to run with my wife. She ran 1.3 miles before she needed to walk. I just kept about the same pace until the 30 minutes was up. It was super humid and I didn't want to run hard in that crap anyway. The wife is kicking ass. She has had a better start than me speed wise.

Yay for the wife again! And for you too, I really like to read about people reaching their goals in healthy ways instead of focusing on getting to a number on the scale as fast as they can.

Hi Q, Please tell your wife that I think she kicks arse! Go Mrs Q!!! I love that you are doing this together xo to you both, Cate.

its awesome to see that you have your wife involved.
About all I can do to get my wife to do is a walk which we do about 2 -3 miles a few times a week.
Been trying to get her to do more physical workout but she just plain out refused.. (damn hard headed women) lol
She does do yoga a couple times a week, but I would really like to get her into more of a physical workouts

Thank you LaMaria!

Cate, I passed your lovely message to my lovely wife!

GGH, you never will. I have tried for years to get her to do things with me. I just have to lead by example and she does what she wants. She and I have both had health problems and running helped me get over mine. Once she had surgery and felt well enough she decided to see if it would help her too. I was encouraging and inviting. I let her know that I really enjoyed it when she went with me. I tried not to say anything that started with "you should" or "you need to" and let her find her own path. It was no different for me. I had people telling me what I should and shouldn't do and I rarely listened to any of them.
