Frogged's Lily Pad

AAw, that would be scary as hell :(. I tend to get a little paranoid when it comes to health, I always assume the worst when I look up stuff on he net to figure out what's wrong.

I wanted to say something, thought...as of late, you've seemed a little obsessed with the scale. You said you were 194 yesterday, and you wanted to get to 184 by sunday. That's 2lb a day for the next 5 days. 10lb's in 5 days is excessive. It might be possible, but to the point of dangerous (not that I'm an expert). I always hear that the maximum you should lose in one week is 3lb.

Do you feel that you might be getting a little too ambitious, or getting too upset over the loss so far? I'm not sure if you know, but, the closer to your goal you get, the slower the progress. Tete for example, she's losing .5-1lb a week now because she hit 179. You can push yourself and limit yourself, but there comes a point where you may end up hurting yourself.

To be honest, I always kind of assumed you knew more than me, maybe you do, maybe you don't, but I want to be sure because I do care. Hearing you chugged THAT much water just to lose some weight made me sad.

Last month I did something that I wasn't proud of, more than once. I wanted to lose weight more quickly. I wanted to cheat, and my weight kept going up and down. So I ended up doing the worst possible thing a person could do to themselves. I binged after having a night out with some friends (I was so obsessed that I starved myself all day and then ate at the restaurant). When I got home I ate a cheesecake pastry, 2 taquito and a big Dr. Pepper. I felt a little sick, but I felt even worse in my mind. I felt like a pig, and I berated myself. The result was me hanging over the toilet with my fingers down my throat for the first time.

This happened four times.

It could happen again, I don't want it to, but so far I haven't done it in a month. Regardless, thinking about weight and thinking of ways to get there quicker won't help us. I'm probably preaching to the choir, but again, I care. You've done SO well so far. You WILL lose the weight, you need to just take a look at your entire routine and think of why you might not be losing the weight. Maybe it is too much on cheat day, maybe you need to up your exercise a bit more. Maybe you need to adjust your daily calories. Just be realistic. If you lose 1lb, even half a pound, be happy, it's better than gaining. If you do gain, look at yourself in the mirror and look at how far you've come, because you ARE one hell of a sexy man. 1lb won't kill you unless you let it.

You're absolutely right, Loch.

I can admit that I'm becoming a little obsessive, but I feel if I'm not, I'll slip up and have disastrous results again :( That week I put on 13lb is something I won't do again.

The weight I have to lose isn't 'real' weight, it's this annoying retention I always put on myself after my cheat day. I tried to balance myself out a bit before so my body wouldn't be so shocked after infusing myself with so many calories in one day, but instead I just kept gaining and gaining. I won't do that again. I've caught myself on a bit of a plateau trying to break out of the 180's (or maybe it was going to happen anyway). Usually I can lose ~10 pounds every 5-6 weeks, but here I've been bouncing back and forth between the 180's/190's since mid-august :\

I haven't even taken a front/side picture of myself the last 2 times because, what's the point? I haven't lost anything so there's no difference to see - unless you want to see my hair growing longer :p

Honestly though, it is becoming much more difficult. I recognize that and trying to find an equilibrium as you get closer to your goal is tough :(

I'll bet most people on this forum know more than me about weight loss. I can only offer up my support and any advice I've collected through my own personal experiences. I guess I'm more 'street smart' than 'book smart' when it comes to losing weight? All I know is what I've been doing the last 2 years, along with information picked up here and there from sources like TV (Biggest Loser) and sometimes the odd internet article.

The only changes I've made are decreasing my calories and increasing my running speeds. I essentially eat the same things I've always eaten, just in lesser quantities. Although one difference in my diet has been substituting turkey/chicken burgers for fiber bars and organic cereals.

I'm sorry to hear about your past troubles with trying to purge, Loch :(

To be completely honest, there was one time a while ago where I attempted that, but I hate throwing up. I mean, I REALLY hate it. My roommate sometimes does it with a toothbrush, but I tried it with a few fingers. It was right after eating a ton of junk of course, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. My eyes got watery and I worried about my contacts falling out into the toilet, lol. I decided that it's better to just deal with the consequences of eating that way and try to figure out a better solution. Plus, it's just gross :\

I really hope you don't consider doing or attempting it again - I know that it's not healthy. I'm not even going to consider leaning over a toilet seat ever again (unless I'm legitimately sick or drunk) :) lol

Thank you for the compliment too btw :p I still come across days where I look in the mirror and I'm like 'blegh..', but I really do appreciate comments like that :) Always makes my face flush :p

AI really reeeeeally hope you don't do that again. I'd hate to have to smack you upside the back of the head..hahaha. Just kidding! Well at least you know not to do that again. Take care of yourself, Mr. Frogged. :p

Aw that sucks Frogged. I hope you're feeling better. You already look great though, and look how far you've gotten. I can't even imagine you being big.

One, but one thing - you said that you're decreasing your calories and increasing your activity. I've been doing some research and people have been saying this can actually be bad for your body! (something about body going into starvation mode or something, and needing an increase in input and output..) Just try to stay at a 500 calorie deficit at the most, especially if you're burning upwards of 900+ calories. I'm no expert of course but you can try that. :D

Good luck!

[Edit] Ah, I found one of the articles. It's an interesting read:

There was another link too but for some reason the Forums are blocking it. Oh well. Here, I picked my favorite quote from the article:

"The body is like a chimney," says Sapone. "If you don't feed it fuel, it won't burn."

Oh, I won't, jen :)

It's just one of the many lessons along this journey. That moment was just one out of frustration and, like I've said in the past, I sometimes do things based more on emotion than common sense when I'm exceptionally stressing out :(

I only tried it once, and once was enough, but at least I have an idea now of that kind of mentality in case I ever talk to someone who relies on that as a method of losing weight. I'm still thinking of pursuing a career as a Trainer and/or Nutritionist, so if I ever meet a client with issues like that, I'll be able to relate more to their struggles.

Every bad situation, no matter the circumstances, always has something to teach you to make you grow stronger. That's what I've come to believe and it's true if you look hard enough and believe that things happen for a reason.

Lesson learned - moving on :]

Hey Jay :)

Thanks for stopping by and for the nice words!

Yeah, that's the concern I'm having. I was trying to develop a balance before so I wouldn't go into starvation mode, but it seems like I was already in it and just put on the weight like crazy with everything I ate :\

I definitely need to research and tweak a few things!

Thanks for the input and the link - that's great :)

edit: That quote is great btw, Jay. I was thinking of that tonight during my exercising and incorporated a bit more calories (bowl of kashi) into my meals for the day :)

Oh, I couldn't agree more. We live, and we learn....and you definitely learned...lol.

AHang in there FROGGED...its hard...and you are a crazy success story ten times over....its awesome what you have done already!! Enjoy your healthy new body and slow down if needed...Its ok to maintain for a bit...it just gives you fuel and drive for the next phase. :)

Thanks Tete :)

I'm hanging.. but had a little bit of a slip today.

Some relatives of my roommates are visiting for the weekend and they all decided to go to Red Lobster tonight for endless shrimp. I was invited and, since I try to be more social, I accepted :)

It was nice. I avoided the bread! But, I did order the endless shrimp and had quite a good amount :( A few servings of the breaded shrimp.. oy.

No idea what the scale will say tomorrow. I was about 191.8 this morning, so hopefully I'll still be around that same number tomorrow (fingers crossed). I did 6 miles on the treadmill today and burned probably around 500 calories, so I got my exercise in. Unfortunately, my body is still hoarding a bit, so the number probably won't be very forgiving tomorrow morning :(

We'll see. If it's up to around 194 or 195, I'll just have to buckle down until Sunday and hope for the best!

I may not hit my original goal of 184 this Sunday, but I'll hit it very soon :)

Just gotta keep rolling with the unexpected :)

So, not a very spectacular loss (0.4lb), but at least I'm headed back in the right direction :)

I didn't get to where I initially wanted to be at the start of this week, but after that Friday shrimp fest, I'm just glad it wasn't a gain :)

Next week will be better as I won't have to worry about any distractions (hopefully!), heh :p

Thanks jen

This week should be better! No pizza again this Sunday, but had a lot of ice cream ;( Ben & Jerry's (of course) and some ice cream cookies that had 220 calories each. I had about 4.

My roommate and friends went to our local chinese buffet as well, but I only had 1 plate of deliciousness, which was surprising actually! I went in famished, but I guess my eyes were bigger than my stomach.

I weighed in at exactly 197 this morning, so here we go again - 13 "pounds" need to be gone by Sunday if I want to be 184

AFrogged you've gotta stop changing your picture xD you look better and better each time hahaha.

Just teasin' ya.

Keep at it. I'm glad I actually don't like ice cream that much. I eat frozen yogurt (80 calories for 4oz, so generally 300 calories and I'm good).

hehe, thanks Loch! :p

Just trying to inspire with my silly mugshots I should've worn my Captain America shirt as I had just watched that movie (pretty good film) and was trying to pose a bit like the movie poster  lol

^ There's my geek moment for the day I suppose :p

I should've probably puckered my lips and squinted a bit more (plus a haircut), but oh well There's always the next pic upload when I hit the 200lb loss mark at 177 ;)

I wish I had more 'before' photos, but like many of us during those times, I avoided cameras like the plague. It was almost like a sixth sense during family functions. I swear I could actually sense the presence of a camera within a room. I'd fake bathroom visits so I could get out of there until after the photos were done being taken. Birthdays were more difficult to hide from since my Aunt is pretty crazy with the camera She has to take a picture of each and every gift along with the person who gave it. Although now that we have little ones running around, they're the primary focus of her photography - thank god! Although I guess I'm not as camera shy as I used to be nowadays

I weighed in at about 191 this morning, so doing pretty good this week!

Congratulations on the weight loss!

Haha Frogged, that's exactly how I am. I swear between 6th grade and my Senior year, there were absolutely NO photos of me, apart from school IDs. Now I wished I had taken more photos =/

Keep going strong!

Doing my best, Jay

Thanks for the encouragement!

Yeah, my father has a photo of me one time when I visited him in Miami. Looked god awful. Kind of like I was about to collapse just from walking 10ft. It was outside in the bright sun, so it was more unflattering than usual :\

My work identification badge photo still has me when I was 350+, and I still use it to this day for work-related things. lol

I actually have it on me and just scanned it. Here it is, haha..

My boss said, 'Yeah.. you gotta update that thing.'

:p

I actually look like a ~60 year old lady that I used to work with about a year ago. Very nice woman, but I swear to god I look just like her in that photo.. only with glasses on and darker hair. lol

Frightening

Ayour hair in your avatar reminds me more of the hulks hair, than it does of captain America.

hehe, well thanks MLB

I do like the Hulk more than Cap, so that's a good thing then

Tomorrow is going to be interesting. They're calling for 6-10 inches of snow in our area, and since I'm a postman, I get to spend all day driving in whatever accumulates.I went to my mechanic's shop today and got new snow tires that police officers use on their own vehicles, so I should be pretty set (hopefully!).

I just hope the weatherman is wrong.

Weighed in at 188 this morning =) Hoping for a good loss this week!

I'm going to a Halloween party with some friends tonight, but I won't eat anything. Probably a drink or two at most. Although I prefer to be the DD, but we'll see :)

Unfortunately, the weatherman was not wrong about today :( What a nightmare. I'm surprised I didn't have more trouble. There were branches, limbs, and trees falling all OVER the place - it was nuts!

To prove just how completely nutty it was, I plan on posting pictures I took later today after the party

Gotta head out now. Hope everyone is doing well also!

Passed out after the party

Friends and I hung out for a bit in the beginning. Played some drinking games, etc. Then we went to two different bars where I may have had a bit too much. We didn't get home until about 1:30am, but it was fun. I vaguely remember twirling around some sort of stripper pole they had on the dance floor at the second place :p

Quick pic - I'm on the far right dressed up as one of the bank robbers from the opening scene in 'The Town' My other friends are (from left to right) Quailman, gangster chick (you can barely see my friend Megan in the background with the white hat), then a promiscuous Robin Hood, and finally Hulk Hogan. lol :p Was a fun night!

From the amount of sweating I did running around in that thing, I probably burned a few hundred calories!

Here's pics from the snow storm. It was a pretty good workout that day just trying to survive! I had to get out a few times and attempt to move fallen trees and limbs so I could get by.

^ I tried to get out and move this one, but it was a bit too heavy.

^ I delivered along this road earlier, and this tree was not there. I had to detour about an hour later and come back up through this road, and I see this.. sheesh

^ This is pretty much how my jeep looked the entire day. I had to keep warming my hand up every few minutes because it was going numb so often :)

^ Saw this kind of thing all over the place.

Anyway, I took all the pics and made a little album if anyone is interested in seeing the rest: http://weight-loss.fitness.com/gallery/album/view/id/13973/user_id/69069

As for my weight, 187 exact this morning :) So, a loss of a little more than half a pound. I've usually been doing a quick treadmill run on Sunday morning, but I think I'm going to go back to having a full rest day. My feet are a little achy, but not bad.

Hey! Ummmm I thought I should let you know that you forgot to post the picture of you on the stripper pole! ;)

*looks at snow pictures*, *checks post date*, *looks at snow pictures again*, *double checks post date*......Snow in October? Is that even normal? I don't know how you do it, I've never even seen it snow, I'm spoiled :p

Congrats on the loss, looks like your patience paid off and you're breaking through that plateau :)

P.S. A Quailman costume? Genius!
