Flyer's diary

well, it may just be wording to make it sound serious. i've heard they really aren't going to arrest anyone. you can still go out for exercise or go to the store. i think their major concern or what they'll be looking for are any groups. i'm sure the beaches will be empty and i wouldn't put it past them to close the gates and lock up the fishing pier.

a friend of mine who had been hospitalized up until last week for a totally different reason, called me today and said she had a 103° fever. i asked her about any problems with breathing, but so far says she just feels miserable.... and when i asked if the worst is probably over now, she seemed very unsure. i asked her about getting tested and she said her doctor told her that at this point she would be better off staying home and taking care of herself.

i'm not 100% sure, but i believe you can get tested after you recover and they would be able to tell you if you were sick with Covid-19. that would certainly make a lot of people feel better knowing they've probably got immunity for a while or longer.

glass half empty... i haven't lost a pound in a week...!

the weather here is driving me nuts... for the 4th or 5th day in a row i look at the forecast and though it's raining today, in two days they predict only clouds or some sun. then that day arrives... it's raining again, and now again in two days they're predicting only clouds or some sun.... aughhhhhh!!!

surprise, surprise...

:) Looks like your scale is stuck! Weather forecasting as a weird business and it can be awfully frustrating. I wish we´d have a bit more rain here though, helps against the pollen.

don't think i haven't considered that from time to time. my scale is right by some tools and i have a very convenient ratchet set i sometimes pick up to make sure the scale tracks the 22lb increase. i often muse when doing this thinking back to when i was constantly carrying around the weight of more than two of those cases 24 hours a day.

Yeah, I always wonder about this too. I think you only have immunity for a couple of months though! That worries me bigtime.

As far as I can tell they´re just not sure yet. If the first cases occurred early December we just don´t have the data to say it´s more than 4.5 months at the most and scientists tend to be careful people. What I could see happen is what you have in flu: the virus mutates so your body has to build antibodies to every new strain that comes along. But at that point you are already likely to have a sensible first reaction because it´s similar to something your body has dealt with before.

you're right, and i forget who said this.... it was a doctor, not a politician... but they said that every other virus triggers that effect (immunity for some time) so he was saying out of experience that this one should, too. an even better point... he mentioned measles which is caused by a virus. once you get measles, there is a nearly 100% chance you will then have a lifetime immunity.

back from the store, had a big glass of iced tea and had to double check this morning's weight...

still there... hard to explain, though i haven't had a beer in over 2 weeks now... :beerchug:

also strange... my kitchen is full of food again, but i'm still a bit depressed about the shopping trip seeing the evidence of blatant hording and really not hungry at all. i'm sure it will change in a bit. i guess i'm lucky in that i can't think of a stressful time or even a non-stressful time that makes me run to comfort food. ...usually just the opposite.

i've needed reading glasses since i was in my 40's and i think i've finally found an ok source....

i tried readers.com and have to say these are great specs. haven't cracked a frame or scratched a lens in over a few months now and this morning i even dropped a pair, stepped on them and managed to bend them back into shape. i've only lost a screw from one pair, but for one of my hobbies i have a lot of very, very tiny screws on hand and i managed to repair them.

definitely would recommend readers.com if like me you're fed up with cheap readers that break too soon, too often.

found an old hard drive this morning that had a picture i thought i lost the only hi-res copy of...

Surprise Lake... a few miles from where i grew up in NJ... a lake i used to ice skate on many winters.

well excuse me... i guess it is formally known as Lake Surprise... lol

Surprise Lake GM.jpg

i was standing on a small stone dam at the south end of the lake when i took that picture. the whole lake is about 2/3 miles long, but probably less than 100' across even at its widest point. it wouldn't even be a lake if not for the dam. perhaps that's the "surprise", although i remember a time when a few of us fell through the ice and we were surprised to find out it was only about 4 feet deep.

i haven't been back for a winter in a few decades, but the last time i was there, there wasn't even a lake at the north end. i asked a park ranger about it and he said it dries up during the summer quite often. sort of depressing to hear.

my avatar picture was taken in that area.
i was 40-something... the last time i was in the 170's until this past year or so.

Great that you found the picture!
Is the drying up in summer new? If so - yes, that's depressing. :( But maybe it happened years ago, and you were too young to actually notice?
