Snow in June!?!

I was shocked when I lived in Southern Germany and it snowed in the middle of October!

We get snow here in the peaks every winter and quite often 1 or 2 of the 4 roads out of my town end up closed. I think the UK generally though, unless you live in one of the national parks, just aren't used to snow or ready for it. No one has snow chains or blankets/coats in their car boot and we dont really have proper thick winter coats and gloves and stuff - lots of people just have "fashion" winter clothes rather than huge proper down jackets etc...
 
lol i've never seen snow :s apparently when i was little my folks took me to melbourne to see some, but i dont remember it.

here in south australia we complain of it being "freezing" if it falls below about 5 degrees (41 farenheit) and if there is frost on the lawn in the morning, its a novelty :p when i finish uni i wanna move to canada for a year (somewhere in british columbia) and fingers crossed for snow :p

anyway, looking great in the photo flumes!! keep it up!! :D
 
Did you really say go Patriots? Wow... A Canadian who supports my team? We might have to argue about hockey though... Go Bruins... <might have stepped in it that time...>

My mother would hug you with that statement. Boston was our favorite team back in the days of Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito....Bobby Orr was my mom's "boccia" (boy in Italian). Phil Esposito is from my hometown.
And this summer, my son got to meet Bobby Orr for a couple of days and got a bunch of stuff signed by him. (I hope you can see my album but thats me and Bob! lol)

Unfortunately now, I have to cheer for Toronto...I know I know....but they're the closest team we have to us.

OH! I'm guessing you meant the zipper on your tent, right? Cuz that's not what I thought at first....

As for snow - we see entirely too much in our neck of the woods (extreme northern part of the midwestern US). And with living in a rural area you learn you have to be prepared for it. It's not uncommon to be snowed in for a week or more after a snow storm. Most of the time we are perfectly happy to hole up at home for days on end because I always keep a month or more of food on hand. But last winter we had a freak warm spell the end of January which caused freezing rain and sleet, which then turned into a heavy snow. It piled up a total of 17 inches of snow on top of a couple feet of old snow, and the wind that came with it caused HUGE drifts to form. The ice pulled the power lines down and we were out of power for a week. We happened to have a small generator to run our furnace and a couple of lights, but others weren't so lucky. It wasn't powerful enough to run the pump in our well, so we had no water. I can't tell you how much that week sucked! Then in April we had another ice storm and that time we were out of power for 3 LONG weeks. I don't care how cold it gets or how much snow we get - I can deal with it. I just need the power to stay on!

That was funny.

We get snow storms and they gotta be bad to shut the city down. Worst was winter 95/96. So much snow, the roof of our big mall caved in. I think the schools were closed for 2 days.
I am so not looking forward to winter this year.)

Highlight to read...sad news warning


Pretty shitty week this week. My B-I-L has gone from 6-12 months... to a few days... to a matter of hours as of last nite.
So we're getting ready for another trip to Toronto in the next day or two.
I went and bought a couple of new shirts today and a couple of new ties...242 dollars. You think I bought a whole friggin suit for that price.
Oh well..I was too embarrased to return it. Thank god I lost weight...one of my old hardly worn suits fits me perfectly...my wife asked me if I wanted to get married again when she seen me try it on :) .
And I thought the tires on the truck needed changing before we went of the road but the mechanic said they were 50% tread left...still good for travelling. So I saved about 1000 bucks there.
Ok...I'm done with sadness....



Foodwise has been iffy. Pizza for supper tonite for example....pasta and meatballs the night before. And I have been nibbling on the cookies all week.
The gun club sent my wife the biggest gift basket in the world. Im sure it weighed 40 lbs and got excited casue I thought for sure there was gonna be a box or two of ammo in it it was soo heavy! lol But it was a ton of fruit and food goods...cheeses, oils, coffee, candy, cookies, crackers. A single guy could eat for a couple of weeks for sure. It was really nice of them.

And now I am at work...waiting for that dreaded phone call...I've got a healthy dinner in a box and a can of tuna (and some fruit of course). Should be a good nite as far as food goes.

Thats about all I have to report right now. If I go MIA for a few days, you'll know why.

Our worst winter was 96/97 - we had over 100 inches of snow that winter. I had to work up in the city and got snowed in up there for 7 LONG days. They had to bring in the national guard to open the roads and I remember going home after that week long blizzard and having to go thru many places on the highway where the track thru was only wide enough for one vehicle, and the snow along the sides was higher than a huge semi truck by several feet. You had to creep along and hope you didn't meet someone coming from the other direction, otherwise one of you had to back up all the way to a wide spot in the cleared snow so that you could pass each other. I'd really hate to have another winter like that one!

There are 6 or 7 guys at the gun club whom we are friends with also. We go out for supper with them and their wives once in a while and have a hoot. Most of them are chartered members and they decided to get my wife something special from the club.

Yeah...that is alot of snow! Wow!

Hi Flumes, I'm so sorry to read of your loss and other hardships, hope you and your family are doing OK.

I've never experienced a frozen zipper before (I've never seen snow :( ), but I have woken up in my tent to find that some annoying brother of mine had zip tied me in! Every zipper Grrrrr!


Love the canadian beer fridge too :)
