Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Thanks, Sheryl. No need to be nervous in here, though!
LOL, I can't remember any Hawaiian except for meli kalikimaka. Pathetic, eh?
Glad you called your dad -- I bet it made him happy. It always makes my day when I get a call from my daughter, too.

"an axe to the calf" - - that would get your attention and make it hard to forget the electrolytes another time!! I was a little worried that I was going to hear a story about an accident! Take care of yourself. :)

Your bike riding speed and times are very impressive.

Hi ya Tom! I am envious of your BF number!!! I had mine done at the gym on a Tanita...its higher than the scale at home says...but as long as the numbers decrease...I am happy.

This beach boot camp class is supposed to get rid of BF...so we shall see...I plan to stay with it...don't dare stop now! :D

tom ur an animal man
im glad to see u in the low 200s!

Thanks, for dropping by, Jeremy. Yes, it's nice to be down here, but these last 25 lbs. are going to be a real bear!

Those numbers are still going down. You are doing great!! I am glad this is going so well for you!!:)

Thanks!

Hey Tom, I'm just checking in. You're down to 13.5% body fat? That's amazing.

No, LOL, you must have misread my sig. My GOAL is 13.5%. I'm still at around 24% body fat - I've got a LONG way to go!

Hi Felici. I think I'm getting closer to the solution. But I'm still going to experiment with some different electrolyte supplements.

Beth, I think you made the same assumption Canon did -- or did I mistakenly say somewhere that I was down to 14%? If so, that is wrong, wrong, wrong. I'm still at 24%.

Hope you enjoy the beach boot camp! Say hello to Bruce.

=======================================
Well, I passed the 1,750 mile mark today on my bike. But even better, I cracked the 20 miles in an hour mark I've been chasing for 2 months. This morning I felt quite strong, so I pushed it pretty hard the first hour. I was very happy to see the cyclometer come in at exactly 20.5 miles at 59 minutes and 59 seconds! That includes about 5 or 6 minutes waiting at stop lights and stop signs, so I was pretty happy with that. On my way back, I took it more slowly, averaging around 16 mph. All together I had a nice ride of 45.3 miles in a little over 2 hours.

Weight today: 221.2, slightly up from yesterday's 220.8. I'm looking forward to dropping down to the teens again soon.

Hey sweetie :). Excellent ride as usual. You're pretty much well into those teens now as you haven't increased from 220 much lately. Awesome!

:rotflmao: Morning Tom!! Your a riding maniac, ****ahhhhh Kim sits in admiration**** Your commitment to this workout/weight loss lifestyle is mind blowing, it's just so nice to see it and witness someone doing so well. I'm inspired by you everyday! Keep up the most excellent work and I think maybe by the end of this month the teens will be a norm for you. :D sorry about the leg issues on the bike, keep up those supplements my friend.
Have a great day!
Kim

I agree with Kim! You are an inspiration. I am so glad to see you doing well and getting what you want done. That is determination and I totally respect that!! Have a great dat!:)

Oh, shit, I missed you getting to the teens! Oh well I'm glad you got there and I'm looking forward to you struggling through those....wait that sounds mean! I didn't mean it like that! But you have to admit it's all a struggle!

GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy and proud for you!

Hope you come back soon!

Tom I guess this means you hit the 200 mark and are celebrating with all your friends and family???? Or did you shrink so small we can't find you?? I'm MISSING YOU!! COME BACK!!:jump::confused:

I emailed his gmail account with what I THOUGHT was his address, and it didn't bounce back so it is...but no response. I think that all WLF people should have a "in case of emergency, please email WLF..." card in their wallet!! So we know what's up!!!

YES PLEEEEEEEEEASE let us know your okay. I'm not feeling good about this, since ALL three, TOM, Beth and Bruce have not been on for weeks, I hate not knowing, this is going to bother me, I pray they are all safe and doing fine!

Hi everyone. Sorry to be absent for so long (over a month, I guess). Let me get the apologies and excuses out of the way first.

As I mentioned in my last few posts, I had a huge software project due, and I simply could not miss the deadline. Basically, I was in charge of writing the bonus system for hundreds of employees in the bank where I work. I knew I would have time for finishing up the software and working out, and that was about it. So I had to give up my online "habits" and as a result, I went AWOL for a month. I missed you all, but sometimes we have to make these kinds of choices. I made the deadline, and even though the project isn't quite finished yet, I'm over the "hump."

I imagine you're wondering about the fires. The Witch Creek fire came perilously close to where we live, within about 7 miles. Yesterday morning, we were pretty sure we would have to evacuate. In fact, I went and picked up Marlene from the school where she teaches in Oceanside (they hadn't cancelled classes yet). We looked around for hotels to go to, but everything was all booked up all the way to Los Angeles.

To make things more complicated, I had to deal with my 97 year old mother with dementia. The home where she stays was going to evacuate, and she would have ended up in a big room with everyone else. She panics in situations like that, so I picked her up and brought her home with me. We were watching the TV late into the night, expecting that any minute we would get the order to evacuate. Our plan was to go to Marlene's brother's house in south San Diego. By 11:30 pm, we were so tired we just decided to go to sleep and chance it.

This morning, the wind had died down comletely, and that was our salvation. If it had kept on blowing the way it did the previous night, we would not only be evacuating, but Encinitas would very likely be on fire as well. By this afternoon, it was clear that we we were pretty much out of danger.

The air is pretty bad, but as long as you stay inside and keep all the doors and windows shut, it's tolerable.

All in all the city and county of San Diego did a pretty darned good job. The evac centers were well run, and even the local media did a great job in keeping everyone informed. Considering that 500,000 people were evacuated in San Diego County, things went, and are going, remarkable smoothly. Qualcomm Stadium and Del Mar Fairgrounds, the biggest evac centers, are models of efficiency. Those of you who know me know I'm a Democrat, but I have to give credit this time to the leaders in San Diego and also Schwarzenegger, who came down to SD right away and made sure the state was doing its part.

While we were prepared for an evacuation, we weren't as prepared as we should have been. Specifically, we need to digitize all our photo albums. It just isn't practical to carry out 200 lbs. of photo albums to the car at a moment's notice. And we need to digitize our important documents as well, so that all we have to take out is a CPU and maybe a few CD's.

As for me, I've been doing fairly well, though no closer to my goal. Basically I've been in a maintenance mode the last month, holding steady at around 221 lbs. Unfortunately, my weight training went to hell in a handbasket during the last 5 weeks. For the first 3 weeks I just let it go (Sorry, Steve, I know that's anathema to you, but that's the way it was). Then, when I finally got back into it, I screwed up some tendons in my elbow, so I can barely curl 15 pounds. My elbow's still a bit sore, but I'm going to get back into my weight lifting, come hell or high water.

I have been keeping up my bike riding at least. Last Saturday I did my second century, in less than 5 1/2 hours, which is not bad for an old fart like me. I averaged 18.6 mph for the whole time. So my lower body is as strong as an ox; my upper body has gone to pot.

Let me be the first to say this is not an ideal situation. The whole idea of doing nothing but biking cardio for hours at a time is unbalanced, and ultimately not very healthy for you. I know that; I did it anyway. But now I'm going to get back to a more balanced approach. I'll still do the biking for 6 to 8 hours a week, but I'm going to add in at least 2 sessions a week of weight training.

I'm no longer measuring everything every day, though I am weighing myself every day. I just don't trust myself not doing that. My diet has been pretty healthy, though I see myself slipping back into some bad habits -- eating more white bread, more desserts, stuff like that.

Anyway, I'll try not to be such a stranger anymore. I apologize for disappearing without a word, but I know you'll all forgive me, you're such nice people! :)
