Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Yup, no sweat! Well, actually if you're anything like me there'll be plenty of sweat! Are the fires out down there? I'm too lazy to check the news!

It's good to know that you are in control there. As long as you make it so, the pound is just a blip! *blows a kiss for the elbow*

Afternoon Tom!! So the elbow is still soar huh?? It's just going to take some time. I've noticed lately I've had a little bit of pain in my knee, I sure hope I'm not going to have knee issues in the near future, I do so much that with knee pain, that would throw my whole work out down the drain! You know I have hope when I see Valerie's grandpa still running races, I guess not everyone ends up with joint problems. You know I think the pain started when I got into my new squat/lunge routine, I might be going to far down, or doing to may reps, it feels better today, so that might be it.

Good to see your enjoying your rides again, I was telling Beth in her diary, that we (I) take such things like fresh air for granted, I'm not going to do that anymore, I'm going to savor it from now on when I'm out on my deck, and I'm going to thank god that it's fresh and clean, because it could be so much worse. I'm so happy it's better now!!

Enjoy your Halloween, we live so far out of town, we don't get any trick or treaters, so I'm going to the Blazer Hockey game with my son tonight, my Hubby is helping out with the volunteers on the ice, so he will be there also. FAMILY NIGHT! AHAHAHAH later gator!

Damn Tom, you're still floating around the low 220's. Congrats man... most would have packed on the lbs without being able to exercise as much!

Good on you.

Have you thought about getting the elbow checked out?

Well, still at 220.6. Going on a very casual 35 mile ride this morning -- I go with a couple of older guys, and at times we are going so slow my heart rate is actually at 65 while I'm riding! But they are really nice people, and I enjoy our time together. On the way back, I go alone and get some real exercise in.

My elbow is very slowly improving. Now I can lift two pounds without pain -- last week it was no more than a coffee cup. But I'm thinking seriously about seeing the doc. It sounds to me like a form of tennis elbow, where the tendons are strained.

Of course, Dr. upChuckRoast would say I'm in denial. :)

No, your probably right Tom, you need to get that checked out as you may have torn something in there, or maybe you might have a little arthritis going on. Eitherway, it needs to be looked at as they may be able to get it all fixed up, like my H's. Good to see you got another good bike ride in, and with new friends, that's great!!

I won't be on for the next 3 days, so have a good rest of your week, and bike your little heart out!!! Hopefully, you'll be in the teens soon!!! Later!!
Kim

How's the elbow? I hope you've been able to get some help and some significant improvement? I guess this is another time when you're glad your bike is a recumbent.

Congrats on staying at 220! :)

Hi Valerie, Kim, Felici, & Canon -- and thanks so much for your concern about my elbow.

I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow morning, so hopefully I'll find out what's wrong with it. I haven't been able to do any wieght training in over a month -- a real drag.

This weekend, the scale hit 224. UGH! I can see I've been slowly inching into my old ways. I put a halt to it pronto. On Sunday, I had a nice ride of 77 miles, which used up a few thousand calories. This morning I was back down to 221.4. But before the year is out, I'm hoping to be consistently in the middle teens. That will take a lot of discipline during the holiday period -- but I did it last year, so I can do it again.

Had a nice ride this am of 39 miles. On the way, I stopped to see my doctor. He confirmed that I have tennis elbow. Basically I have to give it rest for 4 to 6 weeks. I can weight training as long as it doesn't involve that tendon at all. I'm going to go to the gym tomorrow and see if there are any trainers there who have experience with tennis elbow, and see if we can design an upper body strength training program that doesn't involve picking anything up or gripping anything with my right hand.

Weight back down to 222 today.

WOW Tennis Elbow must SUCK big time! I should research that in my PT book and see if it says anything about that.....
thanks for stopping by! Kudos on the 77 miles, SHEESH!

I had a fantastic ride today. The day was beautiful -- not too much wind, and a rain storm last night cleared the air. I went from Encinitas to Dana Point where I had a delicious ahi salad, and then returned just in time to sell two photos to a new customer. I had my iPod hooked up to a speaker gizmo that fits in a waterbottle holder, so the whole time I was listening to great jazz. Even better, I didn't cramp once during the entire 106 mile trip. A great ride in every way.

I do have a bad case of DOMS from my workout yesterday. A PT who is a rehab specialist put together a nice upper body and ab workout that won't screw up my tennis elbow at all. It turns out that I can do pullups, dips, and chest presses without any problems. I was really wiped out at the end of the hour, though. I've obviously lost a lot of my upper body strength, but I plan on getting a lot of it back again.

It's good to hear that you're enjoying your riding and can keep going with an amended gym workout. It's important that we don't let circumstances like injuries derail us more than they must. In RL I've seen it happen quite often that an injury leads to a long term weight gain and I think you're right to make the most of what you can still do.

Good on you!! :)

I'm baaaack!

I'm SO happy to see that you are still here!!!

You're one of the first people I came looking for!
