Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Yeah, that's kinda what I was looking at and wondering about the other day, with your accumuated deficit...is it possible that instead of your estimated expenditure being too far off - the change in your routine by adding the bike has finally boosted your metabolism just a bit? so maybe you're requiring less of a deficit to lose? I guess you'll know for sure when you take your next break....the change since you starting biking is really interesting...and obviously paying off for you in many ways.

Cym, I'm baffled, I admit -- and you could be right. Sometimes a radical change in your cardio routine can really shake your body up, and that's what I've done. I'm recruiting brand new muscles with biking, and perhaps it is changing my metabolism. Whatever the cause, I'm thrilled!

Hey what kind of method are you using to measure that?

Val, I use a handheld monitor made by Omron -- the same kind they have in the gyms. I've found it to be quite consistent, as long as I measure myself the same time in the morning, which I do. I compared it with a 7 site skinfold measurement with calipers, and it was within one percentage point. On top of that, I look in the mirror :) and I can more or less see that it's fairly accurate.

Wow, a 5 pound loss since 7/1? Am I reading this right?? Lucky you, I can't even pull off a 1/2 pound a month it seems. But then again I'm not nearly as dedicated as you are. You are just amazing Tom!

Please Cita, at least you can get that 1/2 pound, mine stays right at the same place every day and I work my ass off at the gym at LEAST 4 days a week 2 hours at a time. UGGGG!! Tom is serioulsy in good standing with those scale gods, that's all I have to say!! :jump:

Cita & Kim -- I have a feeling that when I start getting really close to my goal, i.e. within 10 or 15 pounds, I'm going to have the same difficulty you are. Remember, I still have a lot of fat to lose!

Well then I got the last two items in the bag if that's what they like. LOL LOL The incense, well that might just be my problem. **Note to self, burn, burn, burn those incense for the scale gods this weekend*** It's a good thing I currently have a roll of them in my room.:)

Kim, have you considered that your problem may not have to do with the Scale Gods at all, but with GOM (Goddess of Metabolism). She does not care for incense at all. To appease her, you have to get a hibachi (George Foreman grill will do as well) and 3 or 4 pounds of chicken wings. Do a burnt wing offering in your bathroom. It helps if you have a spare guest bathroom that isn't used much, because it'll stink up things like crazy.

Wait--what about fried chicken???

Btw isn't your 59th borthday Monday????

LOL, fried chicken - a big NoNo. GOM is worried about her cholesterol. Burnt chicken wings are the only thing that will do.

Yes, it's Monday. . . if I'm still alive after Sunday's ride, LOL.

That's it Tom, it's the GOM, ahhhhh what did I ever do to her, except for maybe have children. That did my body in right there!! It hasn't been the same since!!! I'll have to try the grill....... my husbands going to have me committed for sure! Oh and on the Lava cake and double malt, I'll ride the mileage for that prize!!! OH YEAH!!! :jump:

It's b/c there is no way to keep track of all of these things accurately. It helps Tom, because it keeps his guided and moving forward..... but when there is a discrepancy, I wouldn't get too curious. It probably has something to do with the biking.

I mean, you are expending more, and I assume you are eating more, right? If not, there's your answer.

Plus, the added calisthenics at the end of the routine, if you are still doing them, really tends to ramp up caloric expenditure.

Estimating EPOC and all that jazz isn't simple, or even possible for such a variety of exercises.

Track your BF% please.

And a big congrats to ya..... weight is looking really fantastic. I'm anxious to see where you'll be sitting come 12/31/07!

Oh you're just doing Sunday's ride so you can have that Double malt and Lava cake!! LOL!!

Uh Oh! You discovered my real motivation! Darn! :D

Well, see right there you have the problem! For one, you didn't even know about her. That hurts her feelings. Then you didn't know what kind of chicken she liked. Not a way to appease her, that's for sure. And now you're worried about being committed. . . honestly, Kim, you have to get your priorities straight! For less than $7,895, you can get your bathroom outfitted with a scrubber that will catch all the smoke from the grill and keep you out of trouble with the EPA.

Thanks, Steve. Yes, I'm probably eating a bit more on most days, but my average daily deficit in July -- 520 calories -- is way above what it's been in any other month.

My body fat is at 23.5%, down from 24.2% at the beginning of the month. I have lost about 3 lbs. of lean mass over the past 3 months, but I don't think that's too bad, considering all that I'm doing.

Good to have you back!

Thanks, Cym. You have a great one too!

Weight: 224.8 - The Scale Gods paid me a visit last night, and I suspect they'll kick me a few times between now and tomorrow morning. Little do they know of the surprise I have in store for them tomorrow. Good thing they don't have an internet connection!

Stats for yesterday:

Fat: 116 gm, 39%; 26 gm saturated, 9%
Carbs: 336 gm, 46%; 60 gm fiber

Today we're taking a car over the whole route I'm going on tomorrow. I'm very familiar with the first 30 miles, but have no idea what the next 20 looks like. I'm also going to stock up on supplements.
