Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

nice set of improvements = you're so far below your goal - that you will be able to enjoy guilt free lava cake and a double scotch :)

LOL, well, maybe just once -- on my birthday! :D

I'm planning on doing the Century the day before my birthday, so it probably won't hurt that much.

CONGRATS, CONGRATS, CONGRATS! You are doing so well! You seem to have a handle on the bike ride recovery too....good job on those miles!

Thanks, Beth. Do you and Bruce want to ride part of the way on my Century next Sunday? You could meet me at Las Pulgas Road, and have a really nice ride on the old abandoned Hwy 101.

Hey Tom,

How were the Dead Sea Scrolls? I didn't get a chance to see them while they were here in Seattle. I was sad... I think the "Bodies" exhibit is going down to Cali too, if its not already there.

Congrats on beating your goals so far! (I'm a little behind mine. Oops).

Those comparison stats are so great to see. I keep thinking that blood pressure must be going to reach a resting point... but I see so far it's still improving - that's very nice.

Today was Weights 1 day - upper body:

Once again, this was quite a tough workout. I'm still struggling with the 170 lbs. on the bench press and 150 lbs. on the Pendlay Row, but at least I made all the sets and reps.

41 minutes, 463 calories for the weights.
Then I went biking for 21.9 miles:
80 minutes, 876 calories.

Hey Tom...do you mean the 22nd or the 29th? We're going to be out of town this weekend (20th-22nd) (celebrating our anniversary! ).

no, it would be the 22nd. Happy Anniversary! What number is this?

Hi Sunny. The Scrolls exhibit was truly superb -- I wrote about it a couple of pages ago. Yes, the Bodies exhibit is here, too, but we haven't seen it yet.

Hi Felici. Yes, the BP will plateau quite soon. It really won't go much below 115/65. But if I can keep it there, I'll be a happy camper.

Wow on those goals! You are doing awesome!!

Thanks, Mechelle!

Weight: 224.2 - I guess the Scale Gods went to Hawaii on vacation or something. Anyway, I'm happy they're letting me have a bit of fun here. I suspect this is the traditional "tease" -- they're showing the weight I can get down to if I win Round 7.

Food yesterday:
Calories: 2,126
Fat: 57 gm, 24%; 9 gm saturated, 4%
Carbs: 257 gm, 45%; 33 gm fiber
Protein: 138 gm, 27%
Alcohol: 11 gm, 4%

NARM: 2,306 c
Exercise: 1,339 c
Deficit for the Day: 1,519 c
Deficit for July: 9,441 c

Today is cardio day, which means another bike ride.

LOL at the vacation!! I know what you mean. You lose down and you are like is this for real? But it is good that you are seeing it on the scale!!:)

Tom, What kind of scale do you use to weigh yourself?? I have an old type scale that has the pointer hands on it, but I'm currently thinking about buying a new one that's electronic. Is that what you use??

Thanks, Tom! We're celebrating wedding anniversary #5 AND year #8 together! :) We are so looking forward to this weekend together!

Congratulations! We celebrate the day we met more than our actual wedding anniversary, actually. Hope you have a great weekend!

Yes, it's VERY hard to trust good news from the Scale Gods! :)

I use a Tanita. It's very good for the weight, but I wouldn't bother with the kind that has a body fat percentage. That part of it is useless.

Thanks Tom, I'm going to check it out this weekend and probably purchase one. I won't worry about the body fat part, not much of a concern for me. Thanks! And have a good rest of your day!

Weight: 223.2 - Whoa! Scale Gods, what happened to you? You're being absolute pussies this month! LOL, I better not taunt them too much; retribution will be swift and terrible.

Yesterday's numbers:

Food: 2,221 calories
Fat: 84 gm, 33%; 17 gm saturated, 7%
Carbs: 268 gm, 46%; 33 gm fiber
Protein: 112 gm, 20%
Alcohol: 0

NARM: 2,305 c
Exercise: 836 c
Deficit for the Day: 920 c
Deficit for July: 10,361 c

Yesterday was a straigh cardio day, so I went biking, natch. Went 20.9 miles in 90 minutes. The average speed was only 13.9 mph, but I actually felt good about it, because there was a particularly tough hill at the beginning, over 2 miles long. I'm starting to get the strength to pedal up these things in something other than the "granny" gear.

I've plotted out my route for my Century ride on Sunday. Marlene and her mom will be in my "team car" and provide me with a nice lunch at about the 70 mile marker. The route will take me from Encinitas, through Carlsbad, Oceanside, Camp Pendleton, San Clemente, Dana Point, and to the edge of Laguna Beach. That's where I'll turn around and head back. If I "bonk", Marlene will have a station wagon to rescue me.

I'm going to forego squats and deadlifts again today (Good thing Steve's on vacation!), so that I'm not suffering too much on the day of the ride. After this weekend, I promise I'll get back to doing those!
