Weight 226.6 - Ok, scale gods, there's a blow to the head for you. Take that! No, Round 6 is far from over, but I've landed a couple of solid punches so far.

Food yesterday came to 2,667 calories, and was high in quality - 5 out of 5:
Fat: 90 gm, 30%; 23 gm saturated, 8%
Carbs: 328 gm, 46%, 50 gm fiber
Protein: 163 gm, 24%
Alcohol: 0

Part of the reason I'm down in weight this morning, I think, is because I had lots of liquids for dinner. After my ride, I had two big glasses of protein shake, and for dinner, we had chicken soup.

NARM: 2,334 c
Exercise: 1,348 c
Deficit for the day: 1,015 c
Deficit for Round 6: 9,004 c
Deficit for July: 5,508 c

I want to win this Round before my BDay in 12 days, and I'm confident I will!

An added treat: today I had the lowest blood pressure reading I've ever recorded since I started tracking that: 108/64. Not too bad for an old fart who's still 27 pounds overweight!

Hi Tom,

I am fairly new to the site, i hope you don't mind me popping in here. Just wanted to let you know how much inspiration I get from your posts and reading you diary.
Ps: congrats on your blood pressure!! It is better than mine and I am 30!!:)

Glad you're on WLF, Hajni. Of course I don't mind you popping in! And if my boring posts provide inspiration, so much the better!

I think you are inspiring also. You are always so steady and that is cool. I reallt lack in that department. Probably why I can't lose these last 15 lbs. Great job on the blood presure!!:)

That BP score is your body's way of saying THANK YOU isn't it? It sounds like it's feeling really grateful. :) Of course it should be too.

HIP HIP HOORAY for TOM and his BP and weight loss. Great job Tom, and I'm sure it has everything to do with all that damn bike riding, WOW!!! GO TOM!! You will certainly meet that goal by your B-day!! I'm routing for you:)

Wow, you must be so happy today!!

Spoken like a true inspiring being :)

Are you really 27 lbs overweight? Maybe you're just big boned! ;)

I wonder if I should be taking my blood pressure?!? At doctor's offices it's usually around 115/70, I don't understand while the diastolic (?) is so high.

WOW! So many visitors!

Thanks, Mechelle. LOL, it took me 10 tries to get this "steady" so don't feel too bad!

Good morning, Tom! Great bike ride! And super good numbers on your BP! CONGRATS!!!!

Thanks, Beth. Trouble is, my quads are still a bit sore, and today is supposed to be my day for squats and deadlifts. :(

Thanks, Felici. Yes, it sure beats taking blood pressure meds!

Thanks, Kim. When I saw you were "routing" for me, I just figured you were going to send me a plan for my next bike ride, LOL. :D

Thanks, Val. "Big-boned" - LOL, that's a nice way of putting it. Yes, if you saw me in person, you'd see that my problem is definitely not big bones! :) Actually, though, I do have a fair amount of lean mass for my size - 170 lbs. - which is one of the reasons I stopped paying attention to BMI.

Your BP at 115/70 is great. Your diastolic is not high; it's just right. At your age, getting your BP once a year is just fine.

I know, after I sent the post I said to myself. DUH, he will know what I mean, and you did!! LOL LOL LOL I have to say that on the "BIG BONES" comment, have you ever seen that show "Celebrity Fit Club"?? Well, they did this bone Xray scan of the Dr. on the panel who was very fit and thin, and then this big huge Rapper who was around 300 lbs, he kept telling the doctor he was bigged boned, but after the xray's came back it was proof that there is no such thing, the doctors bones were actually bigger than the 300 lb rapper. It was quite funny and interesting, as you always hear people say that. I wouldn't have believed it, had I not seen that show. But I do believe that our structures are all different, and some people carry weight really well. I just wanted to see if you saw that program, it was pretty neat!

Kim, sorry I never saw that show. I'm not sure I like taking away the "big-boned" excuse! It served me so faithfully for all these years, LOL.

Weight: 226.8 - That's the 2 count for Round 6. 3 more days below 227.0, and the Scale Gods have been trounced again. I don't want to get too cocky though; I've been here many times.

My quads and my legs in general were shot yesterday. I could just visualize Steve shaking his finger at me and saying, "Here you are doing all this crazy biking, and you give up on your squats and deadlifts day? What kind of idiot are you?" But then I also think about how he keeps saying you have to manage your fatigue, too. I mean, yesterday I couldn't walk up the stairs without pain, and I was constantly cramping up. I don't think I could have squatted 100 lbs., much less 215 lbs. So I decided I'd be better off skipping my lower body weight training this week. After all, it's not like my legs have been sitting around doing nothing the past few days.

Food yesterday came to 2,479 calories:
Fat: 102 gm, 35%; 34 gm saturated, 12%
Carbs: 255 gm, 38%; 30 gm fiber
Protein: 146 gm, 24%
Alcohol: 0

So I ended the day this way:
NARM: 2,329 c
Exercise: 0
Total Calories out: 2,329
Food: 2,479
Surplus for the day: 150 c
Deficit for Round 6: 8,855 c
Deficit for July: 6,508 c

Morning Tom!! Great job on the workout yesterday, but I think only "YOU" know how your body is feeling and if it's tired and hurting all over, it's probably due for a change up in something, fatigue will wear you down, physically and mentally, which I don't have to tell you that. I see that scale is showing you another good day!! SWEET!!! It's almost time for that big B-Day!! My only advise to you, IS.... don't go working out so hard that when the big day comes your in so much pain you can't even enjoy the day. LOL LOL Have another good one!! And keep up the great work!

Morning Tom! I was just looking at your ticker and thinking I'd be highly surprised if it took you until 7/23/08 to shed the last 27ish pounds...I mean 1) your plateaus are getting shorter (not even sure they are plateaua, maybe just the cycle in which your body loses weight?)...2) you keep increasing the intenstity and variety of your training...3)your bp is just one indicator that you are so much more fit than this time last year -and even if it's only a small increase, that plus your reduced bodyfat means that your metabolism is higher now than when you first started

....so, not to provoke the scale gods or anything...but I just don't see it taking another year...you might have to retire that "big boned" theory sooner than you think (oh, and I saw that show...until then I believed it too).

Con grats on a great workout. Summer is harder for me to get a workout done if it's not in the pool! My 3 kids have a big effect on what I do. Pouring rain today so I guess I'll get on my mini trampoline. Have a great day!!:)
