Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Thank god i do not share the obsession with donuts, lol. personally, i dont care for them much at all, too sweet for my tastes.

I think that if WLF ends up being an integral, or even just auxillary part of reaching my goals, that I will feel some amount of responbility to give back to the community who gave so much to me. Just because I have reached my goals, does not mean that everyone else has, and they might need support too!

And as far as this maintenance talk goes, i dont believe in the concept. at least, i dont believe in it as an all encompassing end of the journey. i can see its application to a few aspects, but i cant see myself working so hard to get to a certain level, and then just settling for staying at that level. to me, there is always more to improve. Sounds like a topic for my own journal at some point, lol.

keep it up Tom, oh, and btw, treadmill gets here tomorrow, so here i come! lol

Tom.. think about it this way.. 10 miles round trip equals about $5.00 in gas these days. Even though the unmentionable delictable sounds good.. gas prices getting there and coming home make the craving go away!

One way to look at it! LOL

Ok. Cheap I get. I'm too cheap to eat out, if I can cook at home. So that'll save me from most of sodium, bad fat and empty calories. But lazy? Too lazy to eat maybe?

Morning Tom!

Hee hee, we are such jocks, it's ridiculous! I may have to increase my weights again soon. Man I love weigt training, but I'm starting to hate certain moves. Grrrrrr.

Oh! This morning I saw this man at my gym who was probably in his fifties, and was bald, and his body was really, really nice--I was oddly turned on. Wow, I thought, that guy must work hard! It was a bit strange because I usually get turned on by younger men, LOL!!

Have a great day!

You are funny!! Gotta love us Older men, eh?? LMAO

Hey, don't put words in my mouth, Bruce! But yeah, sure! I just love to see people past the age of 35 who don't resign themselves to a disease-filled future as a result of a sedentary lifestyle--and even if they do, I like to see them bounce back! Like a lot of people here, they amaze me and make me feel happy and hopeful!

Once you get to my age, just keeping up IS making progress! 20 years ago I had no inkling of that. :)

Well, I have a Honda Insight that gets around 60 miles to the gallon, so for me, it is closer to a 50 cent ride. But, I still have my impatience and laziness to save me.

so lazy and cheap are a way to avoid donuts that'd be a fascinating diet plan

Yes, it's called the "Seven Deadly Sins Donut Diet." I expect to make quite a bit of money with that one!

Sometimes I wish I were too lazy to eat, but I've never had that problem. :)

You mean there's hope for me? :D

It's not that I want anyone hitting on me, 'cause I'm happily married. But the idea that someone might be looking at me without getting turned off would be a nice feeling. As you get older, and especially if you get older and fatter, you get used to being "invisible."

I also find these forums to be helpful, and I will always be here and stick around. I may not update my journal everyday, but I will always be here to give and recieve insights.

WLF has become a part of me; much like how my obesity in childhood has impacted me today. Its changed the way I look at life now, and I believe its for the good.

Hi Tom,

I'm glad to see you and Cym have reached agreement to be hanging around WLF for quite some time yet. Somehow this forum helps to drive accountability, but this is done in a positive and motivating way. When you add on the expertise that is available here, it just becomes a cherry that sits on top of the unmentionable goodies we are not spending $.50 to pursue! :)

Hey Blancita, glad you're back in circulation here. I think Plateau #3 is vanquished, and I'm on to Plateau #4. I dropped all the way to 231.2 a couple of days ago, but now I'm back up to 234.0. However, that's my goal for the month, so I'm OK.

When someone like John Ashcroft is the guardian of the Constitution, then we know we are in REAL trouble. These guys are complete criminals.

Toms, I KNEW you'd catch my draft. Dont tell me, you're an MSNBC nut like me. I seem to watch nothing but news and politics shows in my spare time. So does that mean that the plateau deficit actually caught up so you lost the pounds totaling your deficit? Upwards fluctuations dont count for me AT ALL unless they stay around more than a few weeks, so dont sweat it.

Yes, WLF is a very unusual place in that respect. I owe much of my success to the people here.

Well, not an MSNBC nut, but a Keith Olbermann nut. :)

Yes, the amount I lose when I break through the plateau is pretty close to the calculated deficit. Each month, I tweak what I call the NARM (normal activity rate of metabolism), and as my weight fluctuates, that sets my caloric expenditure from everything BUT exercise.

P.S. Very photogenic you are!
You are too kind!

Compared to the last time I did it on April 28:

This is the hardest of all the interval programs, because it involves 20 intervals, all of them over 85% of max HR, and 12 of them over 90% of max HR. I felt a bit sluggish before going to the gym, but once I got there, I got into the groove.

In the first set, I was able to up the speed on the hills from 145 rpm to 150 rpm, and on the sprints from 180 rpm to 190 rpm.

In the 2nd set, I upped the speed from 135 rpm to 140 rpm.

3rd and 4th sets stayed the same, but max hr attained was about 5 bpm higher than last time.

The 5th set stayed the same on speed, but max hr increased from 159 to 163.

So all in all, a damn good workout. The bar is already pretty high on these workouts, so I feel really good when I'm able to make even small improvements. Hell, just keeping up with the last time is a good thing sometimes.

Weight 234.0 - Plateau #4, Day 9

No surprises on the weight. I'm beginning to realize this is more like a heavyweight prize fight with two seasoned opponents. There will be no quick knockout. There won't be a TKO. Instead, we'll probably go all 10 rounds, and each round will be grueling. I'll get in some punches, and take quite a few as well. I won't win every round, but I'm going to get the bout. So this is round 4.

Some very good news on the body fat percentage front, though: today's reading was 23.7%, down from 25.3% at the beginning of the month. Only a little over 10% to go!

Not only that, but BP was 108/70. It's amazing to think that 6 months ago I was practically hypertensive.

Food yesterday was pretty good, at 2,405 calories:
Fat: 45 gm, 18%; 7 gm saturated
Carbs: 301 gm, 44%; 47 gm fiber
Protein: 171 gm, 29%
Alcohol: 23 gm, 6%

The alcohol came from a nice double Scotch. OK, that wasn't so healthy, but I had a hell of a workout, was very low on my calories for the day, and felt like a treat. I had earned it.

With my NARM of 2,331 calories, plus 1,135 calories from my interval training, I ended up the day with a whopping deficit of 1,061 calories. The month to date deficit is 8,757 calories, and the deficit for Plateau #4 is 4,203 calories. When Round 4 is over, I expect I'll be around 231.0 lbs.

:rotflmao: Aaaaaaaaaaaah. To be young and in one's 20's and think over 35 is old. LOL. You crack me up dear :). When you get into your late 30s you'll start finding the 30s QUITE young. Then again, I tend to hang with mostly younger folks; the H is 30, my best friend is 28, and I even have an old friend who's just turning 21 soon (I've been a bit of a mentor to her since she was 17).

Actually you can be youngish and get fat and still be invisible. I always got my share of looks til I gained my weight last year and now I'm starting to get them again so its certainly not in one's imagination that we turned invisible as we gained. I'm not a glutton for attention but it is weird when it just comes to a complete halt all of a sudden.

Hey, I think of people in their 40's as young! And people in their 20's, well, they're just kids. :)

That doesn't mean I won't listen to them though. I've had a number of 20 year olds teach me a lot more than people my age.

My 23 year old daughter refers to me as "ancient."
