Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

I've not come across many ppl who burn 1000 calories per day just on exercise! i m goin to the gym after work for sure! K maybe not 1000 for me but i m so motivated today! Tks!

You should NOT be embarrassed to ask for nutritional information from ANY chain restaurant! If they had half a brain, they would make it available, and more people need to put pressure on them to do so. Family restaurants are another matter, of course.

I agree totally, and its ridicalous. The FDA should at least have them put an estimate of the calories next to the entree.

Heh, and you say you are not "over estimating calories". Well, commercial foods tend to be higher on the calorie side. I saw this TV show, where they showed meals in resturants, and have you estimate the calories. I estimted 400-500 calories lower then the actual calories (many dishes ranging in the thousands of calories!)

Really, resturants need to change their act and fast.

I will try to get out of anxiety, heh. I tend not to eat out anyways, heh...I like preparing my own food (or my mom's home cooking) at least I know exactly what I'm eating.

Weight: 234.0 - Round 4, Day 11

We had our close friends and neighbors over for our monthly lunch yesterday, so my food intake was a bit different -- a huge meal around 2 pm, with almost nothing for dinner. I wasn't hungry anyway, and didn't get to the gym until 6:30 at night.

Food came to 2,551 calories:
Fat: 111 gm, 39%; 42 gm saturated, 15%
Carbs: 251 gm, 35%; 34 gm fiber
Protein: 109 gm, 17%
Alcohol: 19 gm, 5%

The big culprits in the sat fat category were the creme broulet we had for dessert, and the lamb chops we had for the main course. The creme broulet was small, about 1/4 the size you get in restaurants. I was amazed even this little amount came to 320 calories, with 30 gm of fat, 16 gm sat fat.

I was still OK for the day though, with a NARM of 2,332 calories, plus 320 calories from gardening and 1,000 calories from steady state cardio. I ended the day with a good 1,101 calorie deficit. That gives me an accumulated deficit of 5,269 calories for Round 4, and a month to date deficit of 9,822 calories.

Yesterday was one of those times where the exercise "habit" saved my but. I was extremely disinclined to go to the gym. After a big meal like that, you just feel like blobbing out the rest of the day. But my new mindset just wouldn't let me do it.

That's a great idea to have your wife take workout photos of you. :) It's a pity we have to wait so long to see them.

I really admire the way you headed out to the gym despite wishing to loll around after the big meal. The habits that push you steadily stick with your routine are all important in this process.

It's great to know that you have the numbers pretty much worked out now and are able to look forward to your weight loss despite the awkwardness of those others who like to make you wait for the reward at the scales. Congratulations on your fat loss. That is so worthwhile.

Mal, I really did enjoy the creme broulet. And the 300 calories didn't hurt me a bit.

Felici, thanks. I'm hoping by July I'll be below 230, so the pics won't be quite as embarrassing!

Hi Tom. Your dedication to working out is amazing. I don't find food makes me want to "blob out", but alcohol does. Just a half glass of wine and I'm in mellow mode.........work out tomorrow sort of thing! I'm waiting for the pics!

All you girls "waiting for the pics" is starting to make me VERY nervous!

Hey Tom!

Yay for you on being so good at your mexican food restaurant! I had a pretty indulgent weekend (at least for me) which included a 1/2 bottle of merlot Saturday night, pancakes for breakfast Sunday, a margarita, chips and a flying saucer from Roberto's! Yikes! Let's just say I am back on the straight and narrow today! LOL! :D

Hey Tom!

Hope this finds you well! Dropping in to say hi and pick your brain a little.. hope you don't mind!

I have been basically doing the same routine for about 7 weeks now. I'm wondering how often should I mix things up and change my routine.. gotta keep the muscles honest, right? Right now I am on a split weight lifting regime.. Mondays: Chest/Triceps/Hamstrings, Wednesdays: Back/Biceps/Calves, Friday: Shoulders/Lats/Quads, Saturday: Full Body. 4 sets, 4-6 Reps, As heavy as I can lift. I get a really good "burn" after I am done.

Since I started to bulk, I have reduced my cardio time to a 20-25 minute interval training on the elliptical.. I do the cardio more for my heart than for weight reduction..

Question is, what do you think.. should I switch things around? I was told that doing a full body work out is better then I hear something different. If you get a chance, I'd like to hear what you have to say... And Steve.. if you read this, please chime in as well.. just feeling stalled right now!

Thanks!

Bruce

Hey, if you never get off the wagon, you won't know what it's like to be on it!

MMMMMMMMM, Merlot and Crème Brulée! *DROOL*
Glad you're doing great, looking forward to pictures! have a gret day, Tom

Yeah, good thing this was a small dish; I could easily eat a thousand calories of that stuff.

Bruce, I'm not sure -- are you trying to lose weight, or bulk? If you're trying to lose weight still, then, yes, I think a whole body, complex muscle routine is a great workout for guys our size.

I have 2 slightly different routines that I do every 4 days:
Weights "A"
View attachment 3512
and Weights "B"
View attachment 3513

This routine has been great for me, because I don't get fatigued, but I'm still growing stronger. No new muscle mass, but just better muscle fiber and a stronger CNS.

If you're bulking, then I'm going to defer to Steve. I've never tried to bulk in my life, at least intentionally. My first time will be about a year from now!

Ditto! My BF's b-day is Friday (he's going to be an ancient 23 years old) and I'm making him that for dessert--so I'll be in the kitchen with a blow-torch, practicing this week!

Wow, I wish someone would practice making my birthday desert with a blow torch. That is DEDICATION! TomO, hoping your having a splendid day!

Wow, will you make my birthday dessert for me, too? :)

Yes I am! Thanks, Blancita. Say, I bet the blow torch would be an effective means of making burnt offerings to GOM!

creme brulee is about an easy a dessert as a person can make - and you don't need a blow torch either though that makes it fun - put the dish in a big pan wit lots of ice and broil it til it brulees :D

Tom.. I am actually doing more bulking right now.. lost the weight I wanted to lose and tryig to bulk and still stay within a 10 pound range of what my initial target weight was.. (185 Lbs). So, basically I am not "allowing" myself to be heavier than 195.. tops! Most of this is a softball induced workout plan. The lighter I am, the less strain and pain I have on my knees and back.. but when I get down to my ideal weight, then I lose the "Pop" I have when batting. So, I am gaining the muscle while still reducing the body fat.. make sense? Seems to have been working.. I could tell that I was bulking and losing fat.. but I feel like I am stalling on the bulking part.. not a lot.. just a little.

Does any of that make any sense? If so, please reply so I can make sense of it! LOL :rotflmao:

Hope this finds you well! Maybe we'll get to do the gym thing in June sometime!

Yep, makes sense. In that case, I think Steve is your man. And when I finally get to the point of bulking, I'll talk to you!

Yeah, let's shoot for June for the gym. Did you say you were a member of LA Fitness?
