Fensters Diary

Bravo on running the mile. I can't associate the word 'run' with anything more than frequent bathroom trips :p Even if I could get myself to run (the exercise version) I'm not sure my body parts would like me so well.

Anyway, you're doing great man !! It's nice to see another lose over 100 pounds within the first 6 months. It really can happen if people give it a chance.

Keep on inspiring Fenster ;)

Hey Fenster!

CONGRATULATIONS on reaching that 6 month mark! Six months of a changed lifestyle is HUGE in my book!

I'm glad to hear you guys are feeling better, I've heard the flu has been knocking people big time this year :(

And WTG on that mile run! I think I'd pass out if I had to run a full mile!
Even if a rhino WAS chasing me ;)

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the kind words and all the support. As far as the running goes, like I said I surprised myself too, but part of my new goals for ’07 is to push myself harder on the exercise portion. I know I can never get the last 15 to 20 years and all the things I missed out on back, but damn-it I am going to enjoy the rest of my time here and NEVER be restricted by my size or weight again.

I agree T2, losing over 100 pounds in 6 months in not easy, it takes focus, discipline and drive but it can be done and it sure feels great.

Talk to you later guys.

[...]but damn-it I am going to enjoy the rest of my time here and NEVER be restricted by my size or weight again.

Hallelujah!! I love that attitude.
Congratulations on the 6 month mark!! And a bit Woooty Woohoo for the running mile! Fantastic Fenny, keep it up!! :D:D:D

Thanks Pequin.

Well, I did another 3 miles on the treadmill late last night, I walked 1 mile, jogged 1 mile, and walked 1 mile. Tomorrow is the big weigh in day for me :D

Did 2 miles on the treadmill last night (walked 1 and jogged 1). Today is 6 month since I started this journey and I will post all my numbers later when I get home and have a minute.

6 Month Update

My totals for the first 6 months of my journey are:

112 pounds lost in 26 weeks(puts me 119 down from my heaviest)
Went from 52 inch waist to 40/42 (kinda in between, depends on style)
Went from 3XL/4XL shirts to XL
I never took any other measurements so I have know idea how may inches in total I have lost but I know it must be a ton.

WOOHOO!!!, Have a good day all.

Its been a while since I posted anything in my diary so here is a quick update. Things are going well, still losing:D . I have started a new workout program, instead of doing just cardio (walking) I did a little research on HIIT (high intensity interval training) and liked the idea so I am trying it out. I like it so far because it takes less time and it is just nice to change things up once in awhile. I am also trying to start to do a little more weight lifting but need to work out the details still. On a down note my new (one month old) treadmill took a dive on me. It is under warrenty so a service tech will be here on Friday to take a look. In the mean time I still have the exercise bike (not my favorite:( ) to use. Hope everyong has a good Superbowl Sunday.

Hey Fenster,
So what exactly are you doing for the HIIT?

I definitely wanna hear the details. I'm interested in your plan.

Some of the newer WLF members with fitness/weight lifting backgrounds have brought up HIIT in a couple post , so I thought I would check it out and did some research and liked what I saw. I included a couple links below. The first one is an article about HIIT, the second is a 8 week schedule I am trying out. The general idea is to do a warmup, then alternate between sprinting and jogging every 30 seconds for a set number of cycles, then a cool down. You go as hard as you can for 30 seconds then do a 30 second recovery then repeat. The first workout starts with 4 cycles and by the last one it is up to 15. The links will explain it better than I can and also give some reasoning behind the claims and benefits. 4 cycles does not sound like a lot and 30 second intervals do not sound like a long time, but it is harder than it sounds. I tried it a couple times on the treadmill (before it died) and I think it was a very good work out. I modified it a little to suit me, I run as fast as I dare on the treadmill with out launching myself off it then walk for the recovery. My warm up and cool down are both a half mile. I imagine I will be able to increase the speed and intensity as I get more fit and more comfortable running all out on the treadmill. I am thinking it may be a little safer on a exercise bike or elliptical machine though, LOL:D :D

Hmmm, the HIIT sounds quite interesting Fenny. Though I think if I ever tried something like that on a treadmill I'd be on my butt in seconds. I can barely walk without trying to take a dive..lol.

Let us know how it goes! :D:D

Hey T, It's going good here. Still losing, although a little slower lately. I havn't had much to say lately, but I still check WLF everyday, thanks for stopping by. I'm still exercising and eating well. Preparing for the expected storm that is supposed to hit today and Wednesday. Hope you have a good day and stay strong.

Wow, its been awhile since I have posted anything to my diary. I have been on the forums almost everyday checking peoples diaries and following certain threads, but have not had much to say I guess.

Tthis past friday was 8 months into my new lifestyle and I am down 131 pounds (-138 from my heaviest), WOOOHOOO!!!!! I am just 7 pounds away from my original goal of 220. I am not sure where I will end up, but I don't think I am going to stop losing just yet, I have more work to do. I still have quite a bit of extra baggage around my stomach area that I am not sure I will ever be able to get rid of. Sometimes this almost seems surreal, as I am not sure I ever really thought at the beginning that I would make it even close to my goal much less do it this fast. I wish I would have done it 15 - 20 years ago.

I have continued a steady, although lately much slower, weight loss. I have also been doing some moderate weight lifting the last couple months and have noticed a real difference in my upper arms, upper legs and chest. I am looking to change it up a little and increase the weights I use, but need to do some research on what and how to lift safely and get some additional weights too.

Hope everyone made it through the winter OK, it's almost time for those of us up north to come out of hibernation.

WOW, you have done a fantastic job in your weight loss. You've inspired me to not give up and hit it even harder. I started 03-06-07 at 445lbs and am only down 15lbs so far. Thanks for sharing your journey.
