Fensters Diary

Hii Fenny!! Yikes in the injury but how sweet it is to be injured doing something rather than just hurting your finger popping open the can of pringles... I've done that...lol

Have a great week!! :D:D:D

LOL, yep I know what you mean, I once pulled my hamstring getting out of bed:eek: . The worst part about this one is I pulled it not while I was playing but when I was stretching.

The leg feels much better. I probably shouldn't have but...I went and played hockey last night. It is a little sore today but not too bad. I think if I can go easy on it for this week then it will be good as new.

Have a good day all.

Well I had a pretty good week and dropped a couple more pounds. The weight is coming off a little slower lately so I am not sure if I am going to make my christmas goal of 100 pounds lost from my starting weight, but I did hit 100 pounds lost from my heaviest weight. :D

Have a good day all

Well, I am sure the next couple days will be good weight loss days for me. This morning I went for a walk and actually jogged parts of it. WOOHOOO! That felt pretty good....

Then after that I went to have dental surgery to have my two lower wisdom teeth removed ouch! :(. I haven't had anything to eat since around 8:30 last night so I am good and hungry. So now I am all tuned up on Vicodin trying to eat soup while my lower jaw is still completely numb. LOL, it is quite a show to watch. Anyway it went well and I feel OK so far.

Have a good day all.

I had a really good weight loss week heading into Christmas, hopefully I can keep it up, but I am also planing on enjoying the next few days and eating some things I normally wouldn't. I am down 99.5 pounds from my starting weight on july 21st and 106.5 from my heaviest. WOOHOO!! I could not be happier with my progress. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a joyous holiday season.

Thanks Pequin.

Well, I got back on track today with a brisk 3 mile walk and tonight I am playing some ice hockey. Hope everyone had a good Christmas without doing to much damage.

Walked another 3 miles today then my wife and I took my daughter ice skating for the second time. My legs are a little sore now, but I feel great.

Have a good day all.

Yep, I have been doing really well with the eating and the exercise lately (except Chistmas eve and day of course, LOL). Walked another 2 miles today. I have enjoyed being off work this week plus not having school either has allowed me to get in longer walks. I have managed to log 8 miles walking and a couple hours of ice hockey in the last 3 days. I normally weigh myself at work so I can not tell for sure exactly were I am at but I feel pretty good and I am sure I have done well over the Christmas holiday. I will know for sure on Tuesday when I get back to work.

Had a very good day shopping with my wife today. My parents gave us both gift cards for Christmas because they said they did not have a clue what size either of us are anymore, LOL. I have never been much of a shopper when it comes to clothes but it was kind of nice today to be able to have a larger selection to choose from. Before I was 3X/4X shirts and today I bought XL's. They fit OK, but are little snug for my liking. The way I have been going I figure they will be perfect in 2 - 3 weeks though. Before I was in 52" pants and they were in no way loose or roomy. Today I am is 42" jeans and bought a part of dress pants in 40" (elastic comfort fit waist though). It sure has been a nice Christmas.

Have a good day all.

Fenster, I'd love to learn more about what kind of lifestyle you adopted. Your weightloss has been very successful thus far and I love hearing people's stories. Plus, I love the fact that you didn't use the word diet and you started eating healthy and exercises. What types of foods do you eat and what's your favorite exercise? Also - do you like Gov't Mule?

Sure no problem jmnewsome. Some of this is in my original diary post but here you go – I have been fat all my life, 300+ in High School. This past July my doctor diagnosed me with very high blood pressure and put me on meds to try to lower it. At that time I gave myself a reality check and really started to think about everything in my life. I really felt that I was on the verge of having more serious health problems. I was 35 years old with a great wife and a beautiful 3 year old girl and I wanted to be around for awhile. My wife and I started a low sodium diet and I started walking almost every night (just ½ mile at first). I started losing weight and fortunately I have been able to continue to lose. I continue to walk as many days as I can. I have tried to get myself going on a weight training program in an attempt to regain some muscle that I have lost over the last 15 years of relative inactivity. I have not gotten into the weight lifting as much as I would like yet though. My normal exercise is walking and I have increased my pace and distance dramatically from when I began.

As far as my diet, it is pretty basic and simple, nothing drastic. I am still maintaining a low sodium diet, I also try to keep it low fat and high fiber. I eat lots more fruits and veggies now, drink lots of water (80 – 100 oz.), no pop, no junk food, very few sweets, smaller portions, and no snacking at night. I do not count calories on a regular basis because I do not want to do that for the rest of my life. I decided right from the beginning that any changes would need to be sustainable so my focus was to learn how to eat healthier. A month or so ago I went to see a registered dietitian who said that I was doing great and that she would not change anything that I am doing. I get a lot of recipe ideas from Recipezaar . My current favorite dinner is a great big plate of sweat and sour veggie stir-fry that my wife created. It tastes great, fills me up and no guilt. Portion control is a big thing for me too. An example of a then vs. now meal would be: an “Old Meal” consisting of 2 cheeseburgers with ketchup (high sodium), potato salad (high fat/sodium), baked beans vs. a “New Meal” of 1 hamburger (or maybe Turkey burger), no cheese, with spicy mustard (low sodium), a big slice of onion and homemade hot sauce (low sodium), a big salad with Fat Free Balsamic Vinaigrette (no Fat). It’s not a perfect meal but it is a heck of a lot better than before and it is one I can maintain.

The bottom line is that I have gotten to the point where I want to lose the weight and be healthier more than I want that brownie/potato chips/Mountain Dew etc. The best thing is once I got used to eating healthier I really didn’t mind nor do I miss the other stuff much. Yes, I still have cravings occasionally but I have learned to handle them. Sometimes I ignore them and they go away, other times I allow myself to indulge, in moderation.

So far I have lost over 110 pounds, I feel much better, my blood pressure is good and I am no longer taking medication for it. I have lost 10+ inches from my waist and went from being in 3XL/4XL shirts to now starting to get into XL’s. I have even started to play recreational Ice Hockey again after not skating for about 13 years. I have done all this in a relatively short amount of time but I have been very focused and have not allowed myself to slip up very often. When I do I correct quickly and continue on. For me weight loss has been 90% mental.

Yep, I’m a big fan of Warren Haynes and Gov’t Mule. That quote is from the song Nothing Again off the High and Mighty album, it actually has nothing to do with weight loss but I liked it and felt it was applicable to many situations in life.

Good luck on your journey, you can do it.

Thanks for the good words Fenster :)

I hope I can get that visit in someday in the near future. I'm looking forward to it other than the skating part - I'll watch

I haven’t posted much lately, my whole family and I have been down and out with the stomach flu for a few days (Yuk!:( ), but it looks like it has finally passed. I was not able to exercise much but still did ok since I did not eat much for 2 days and EVERYTHING that I did eat came right back out.

Yesterday I started to get back on track with a nice walk on the treadmill. I did a total of 2.5 miles and right in the middle I decided that I was going to run a little. Well, I kind of surprised myself and jogged/ran for a whole mile! I did not break any speed records but I did the whole mile without stopping, passing out or tumbling off the end of the treadmill. I can not remember the last time I could run a mile with out stopping. WOOOHOOOO that sure does feel good!!!:D

This Friday is going to be a big day for me as it is the 6 month mark since I started changing my life. I am more than happy with the progress I have achieved so far and I will post an update on Friday of the totals. I think I may post some “then and now” photos too.

Have a good day all.
