Don’t fret. It is possible. At 20 years of age, you're in your physical prime. It's the ideal time to make changes to your body and lifestyle.
If you choose to lose 10 pounds and take control of your weight now, you'll thank yourself later. What's more, because of your youth, losing weight will be a breeze.
With a little bit of self-discipline and an understanding of diet and exercise, you can safely and sustainably reach your goal in about five weeks.
• Adjust your diet. This may sound daunting, but cutting out only one or two unhealthy foods from your diet can speed weight loss. If you eat junk food such as sweets, processed snacks or soda, start there. Cutting out even two cans of soda a day eliminates 300 calories.
• If you don't eat junk food, don't despair. Calculate how many calories you consume each day using the nutritional information on the food you eat. Aim to consume 300 to 500 fewer calories per day. A good way to do this is by substituting extra protein for carbohydrates in meals; adding more protein decreases your appetite so you eat less and take in fewer calories.
• Begin a program of cardiovascular exercise. Choose running, biking, swimming, rowing or a pick-up game of your favorite sport, anything that raises your heart rate.
• Aim for three to four sessions of cardio per week; 45 minutes per session for low-intensity activities such as hiking, or 20 to 30 minutes for high-intensity activities such as basketball. Aside from assisting in your immediate weight loss, developing a habit of cardiovascular exercise in your 20s will benefit your health for a lifetime.
• Begin a program of resistance training to give your muscles a workout. Resistance training is an important part of any weight-loss plan, as it allows the body to maintain lean muscle while losing fat.
• Aim to work out all the body's major muscle groups two to three times a week, using the weights and machines at a gym or your own equipment at home. Focus on compound lifts, movements such as squats and push-ups that exercise several muscles at a time. Because of your youth, you likely will notice a rapid difference in your strength and appearances, allowing you to achieve an athletic look as you also lose weight.
I believe you are strong and durable enough at this stage of your life. Just keep up your all hard works. You would figure it out the real change soon.
