Emily Rose: The Reboot

I’d stick some sardines in the curtain lining when you move out Emily . I’m really In a wicked mood today :p

House-sharing is a whole fascinating game of its own - so much interesting turf to negotiate with housemates, and so many intriguing possibilities of new discovery - socially, gastronomically... I recall in one house I lived in, when it was my first turn to cook for the household - I can't remember what, but it was a good, varied, nutritious vegetarian meal - and one housemate came in and looked, and said "Oh. Good. I'll just put some chops on, will I?"
So that household learned lots about vegie cooking from me, and I learned lots about many other things from them. I hope your new housemates are open to sharing and learning, and also have lots to share with you! :)

By the way, FoodC is apparently also in a shared house - and so was Lumpee, if I recall correctly, though we haven't seen a Lumpee post for a while. I recall there was discussion about the difficulty of all watching football on TV together, because the housemates were addicted to bringing in terrible anti-diet foods to munch on while watching. :(

I remember having roommates, never really liked it, but when you are young its often an economic necessity, it was for me. Best of luck making it work.

Em the journal are doing articles at the moment on how people spend their salaries . There was an engineer in Dublin and a doctor in Galway . Interesting I thought.

Hi Sunflower, thanks for dropping by. I'm not sure yet, hopefully.

Thanks LaMa, Marsia & Rob.

Lol Petal. I actually think she'd have a nervous breakdown if I did that, so better leave it. Haha. Also, thanks for the tip about the Journal articles, so interesting! It really made it clear to me how excessive my spending is! Oh my God, what am I at?!

Hi Amy, I don't know if cooking for other people is really my thing, lol. We'll see.

Had a good day today but not a good food day. I didn't smoke though, so that's a definite positive. One day I can normally do okay, it's day 2 where I generally fall down. But it's something.

I might start writing Journal-style breakdowns of my day, just for fun. Word of warning that today, I ate what I wanted, so it might be triggering.

4am - Woke up, couldn't get back to sleep. Went downstairs, had half a bagel with butter and apricot jam, 2 glasses orange juice, 2 slices of chicken.
8am - Got up for work, had quick shower.
9am - Ate apple at my desk. About an hour later, I had 2 chocolate hobnobs - we have visitors in the office this week so we have extra food/treats in for them. Had 1 cup of coffee, 1 cup of tea and an americano from the machine before lunch.
1pm - Got an egg salad roll and a Reese's bar for lunch - 4.45 - in a local petrol station. Bought petrol - 20 euro.
2pm - Had another coffee and milk and a purple snack bar. Had another wafer biscuit later.
6pm - Ordered pizza. Had 8 delicious slices of ham and pineapple with 2 garlic dip things. 15 euro.

Total spending: 39.45. Not great.

That should be it for the day foodwise, very bad. I am not doing anything for the evening, might watch Netflix and get an early night. Going to either go for a swim or go to the gym in the morning. Fingers crossed.

Em you could start a new theme in the journal. That’s way more interesting than the doctors journal . Least we know what you ate !!!
I’ll read your journal . It’s interesting.

my spending today was zero . Brought my own lunch and had lots in fridge for dinner .

Hi, Em. It was fun to read a totally different diary entry. Did you like Bridget Jones Diary? Adding my spending into my diary might be a little confronting. I know we spend more than we get

I was surprised by the Euros! I've thought all this time that you were in the US - I vaguely connected the theatre group with Washington D.C. or Seattle - I have no idea why!!

Amy , Em and I are neighbors we don't know where each other live but both in Ireland and I would hazard a guess we are not too far from each other lol .

Sunflower I read your post it’s great . You write really well and tell a good story . Did you ever consider a blog . Pinch of nom recipes are really coming popular now and they have a new book out . Do you know the two chubbcubs also ? They too have a book in January I believe .
l love Portsmouth and my friend is actually there at the moment doing some work for 2 weeks .

Hi Petal, thank you! I have preordered the new pinch of nom book already! Love their recipes.. The chicken orzo and dirty rice are firm favourites! Not heard of the chubcubs, will check it out! Portsmouth is lovely, I love the winters here with the raging sea and wind! Hope your friend is staying in Southsea, its the nicest part!

Thanks for the compliment Petal. There's a great thing on NY mag called The Grub Street Diet, where well-known people living in New York go through all the amazing places they have eaten for the week. It's really interesting. It's always fascinating to read the fashion/model people's entries (for me anyway). I've attempted a Grub Street-style post here before, might do it again if I have a particularly foody day out!

I won't do it all the time LaMa, but it is an interesting thing to add in. It's also very much connected with food for me, as it's definitely what I spend most of my money on, so it also ties in with here quite nicely.

Cate - loved Bridget Jones! Sometimes I worry that I loved it too much and I have actually turned into her. With no Mr Darcy in sight! Or even a sleazy Daniel Cleaver character, haha!

Sometimes I think I have an American style to my writing Amy, wouldn't worry about it!

Sunflower, thanks so much for sharing that with us, it was great! I've sent you a message about the money diary.

Friday
7am - Woke up to the exciting news that I had scored a 90 as my Fitbit sleep score. Only 90-100 gets you the award of an 'excellent' night's sleep. I don't know what you'd have to do to get 100, but of course that is the ultimate goal. I was disappointed that I didn't feel fresher when I woke up, but as the day went on, I felt pretty good, so it obviously doesn't lie. Similar to my hips. I love how Shakira sings that as a triumphant anthem of female-empowerment, when actually for me it represents the secret wine-guzzling and chocolate-eating I partake in. God damn you Shakira.

7-9am - Tried to snooze a bit longer, didn't work, came on here and read about this exciting new money-making endeavor on Refinery29, then went onto their careers page and dreamed about getting a job with them as a writer living in New York. Might apply for it as a fun exercise and dream to have. Had half a bagel with butter and jam for breakfast. (I'm already eating like a New Yorker! ;)) Had a shower. My hair looks good today.

9-5pm - Work was fine. Got a message about the quote for the lighting and sound for the show. It was much lower than expected so I am very happy about that. Actually ate the lunch I'd packed with a bonus slice of toast, so that was great. I have blown through all my money already this month, so it will be my healthy salads all next week, which can only be a good thing. Was meant to go for a walk at lunchtime with a colleague and former colleague, but my coat is missing and it was cold and windy, so I didn't bother. Bad Em.

5pm - Waited till the office was empty to print out posters for the play. I am a sneaky sneak. Bought really disgusting roll in the shop instead of cooking dinner. That was a mistake.

6pm - So annoyed to see that my housemate is back. I thought she was gone all weekend. Very irritating. I don't dislike her really, but I was loving having the place to myself.

No plans for the rest of the evening, that's okay by me. Will prob hide out in my room for the night and have a more productive day tomorrow.

And just cos it's Friday -

Thanks for Shakira! and I realise now that it's too blinking long since I've been out dancing!

That's a pity that you missed your walk - but if you didn't have your coat, it couldn't be helped. I love walks (with a coat!) in the cold and rain - but that's because I don't live anywhere really cold. I have no idea how Canadians and Russians manage.
Good news about the sound and lighting quote - when is the play actually on?

Em there is a new programme on Netflix with Renee zellweger . She looks so different now. It’s quite good , bit of a rip off of indecent proposal. I only saw first episode .
Sounds like your doing good all round. Happy for you .

Loved the Shakira video, Em. I love dancing. Belly dancing is something I would like to do again. I was quite good at it. I loved Bridget Jones diary too & I love your new diary format!
