Ed's Diary

I switch it up every couple weeks. Sometime seated with the barbell, and sometimes standing like you're doing them. I do them standing with dumbells to create that balance (this is what I've been doing most recently). Another good way is, with dumbells seated on an exercise ball. It builds that stability and core work along with balance in the shoulders.

Got ya. I don't like those balls though. I would feel gay lifting weights on ball.

Haha, I hear ya on that. I've only done it a few times. I'm to the point now though where I just dont care. Everyone else can give me whatever kind of looks they want. Try standing with dumbells though. Thats what I've been doing the last two weeks. Works that balance and gives a pretty good workout.

You ever do any cable lateral raises?

I dont care either. I get strange looks when I do burpees @ the gym anyway. They probably think Im crazy just for squatting. Im the only person I ever see do it. I may try the DB's

Nope I never done the cables raises

Deadlifts
Ok had a good WO. I am just killing deadlifts lately, so much in fact I broke my 5lb per WO progression and threw on 10 yesterday. No problemo.

How much weight? I only do 115 lbs otherwise I start to get burly, and 115 is plenty fine for me!

Bam! I'm so damn good. My wife is lucky. I'm rockin the gym AND the kitchen.

Nice! :D Now you need to rock the bedroom ;)

I'm gonnna try some sort of conditioning today as well. Don't know what yet. Maybe go to the track and bust out some 200m's

Word, sounds great--that's the way to get in shape. Thumbs up

190 5x5. The program I am doing is pretty much start really low and add 5lb every WO. I have never seen what my 1 rep max is or even what my 5x5 max is. I would like to see though.

Lies. Whoever heard of a "burly" erector spinae? I've seen lots of smoking hot chicks deadlifting heavy. You should atleast get to 135. It actually will be easier with the big plates.

Oh my bedroom is rocked!

I used to do 2 plates (135 lbs) but um, seriously maihn, I put on muscle. And deadlifts work out the whole body. Guys remark on me being "yoked" a lot. I do not flex in my pictures.

Friday WO
Warm Up-elliptical
Squats
Bench
DB Rows
10 minutes 1/1 intervals on elliptical

WO went good. Made all my progressions and even jumped 10lbs on the squat instead of 5 Which oddly enough left me feeling bad because I really think my motivation was not walking all the way to the other side of the gym to get the 2.5 weights off the Smith machine. Is that bad? I tell my self that actually I just knew I could do it so I did it.

My bench is starting to make me a little nervous. I am making my reps fine but they are definitely getting harder. The nervousness comes from not wanting a spot. I work out alone and I dread having to go ask a stranger to spot me when lifting my pathetic weight. Oh well. Maybe I will just keep getting stronger and want need them. This is the same problem I have with finding my 1 rep max. On the bench and squat I am a little afraid of failing and having to bail.

Saturday the wife and I played tennis. Great exercise. Its the first time we have played in months and we both commented how our weight loss has really helped our mobility and agility.

Sunday I did nothing active but walk my dog. After church we watched a scary movie (An American Haunting) I give it a 5/10 as a movie but a 7/10 as a horror movie because the quality of horror films in the last several years is so low. We actually watched The Body Snatcher starring Borris Karloff a few days ago from 1945. It was a much better film. Karloff is a great and under rated actor I believe. I would give it an 8/10. Anyone familiar with the Karloff/Lagosi feud should check it out. It is a great illustration of how far the pendulum swung because 10 years earlier they were considered equals while in this film Karloff gives a great performance while Lagosi is relegated to what is no more than a "bit" part. I am still a fan of Bella though.

Back to the gym today.

Nice work Ed! How is the weight loss going? Do you always do a full body workout?

Weight loss is a bit flat right now. No idea why. My calories are low and my exercise is there but my weight comes off slow. I weigh/measure on Tuesdays so I will update Wednesday but last week I was 190 I think which was pretty flat as far as weight loss goes but I lost some inches in my waist. I don't remember the number but my 34 jeans are feeling pretty good. Glad I held on to them lol.

yeah always full body. Today will be deadlifts, over head press, and pull ups. I go Mon, Wed, Fri. ABA, BAB. I like to stick to the KISS format.
Keep
It
Simple
Stupid

I usually finish with some intervals on the elliptical or burpees if I feel froggy.

KISS is a great concept to follow no matter what you apply it to!

Glad to hear you are still kicking butt!

Cheers!

Thanks! I am going to kick it up in the but kicking department. I have even made a new sig to illustrate my new, more aggressive attitude!

You're probably just transforming your body composition. Great job man. Transforming body fat % is better than losing weight in my opinion. Keeping workouts simple is good too. I've been working lately on reducing my rest time between sets. I used to sit around a lot at the gym but now I'm keeping my rest between sets to 40sec or less. Helps to get the heart beat up while still gettin a good lift in. I should start doing some dynamic workouts like burpees or planks.

I rest 60 seconds but if I struggle with a set I may take 90 or even 2 minutes.

Burpees suck. Thats why I force myself to do them. I do the ones with the pushups in the middle

I am going to do the 100 Burpee Challenge one day. Maybe a New Years Goal? I have done 50 but I did them slow. The "challenge" is to do them as fast as possible.

I love how in the video it looks so easy!! I would probably die after about 20 of those.

OMG I just have to give those a try one day. I'll probably hit my hands on my ceiling though, maybe I'll go outside for them. In any case, they look tough.
