hi! i'm 18, and 5'9.

my starting weight: 187

my goal weight by the end of june: 160

my goal weight by the end of the summer: 140

My highest weight was 209 in the 2008-2009 winter season. I slimmed down to a 195, and then to 187 (when I posted my last post). I am now **drum roll** 180 pounds, and yesterday the scale read 179! I'm proud of myself to an extent. I've achieved the discipline I've been striving for years. Junk food and sugars and starches are no longer as enticing-progress!

However, I think I have hit a plateu. I believe it's due to the fact that I stopped exercising everyday for 2-3 hours. I would wake up at 6 or 7 am and do 30 minutes on the treadmill, and 30 minutes of light exercising on the medicine ball, and then in the after noon I'd do the same thing, and then at night I'd do 1 hour on the treadmill. Lately I've been (the past three days) since I've been really depressed about a lot of things I've only done a brisk bike ride in the evening. This is enough seeing as how my appetite has depleted and I consume less than 1000 calories a day (some days even 500), but I really need to be on my A-game if I want to reach my goal of 176 by this time next week.

This morning I had 1 cup of bran flakes without milk, and half a banana, a handful of grapes and some green tea. For lunch I had half an egg roll, a handfull of bran flakes and some more green tea, and for a snack I just had a small bag of multigrain chips, two pieces of salami and some cashews. I am not hungry at all and I've only had a 800 or so calories.

Tonight for dinner I will have two boiled egg whites and some lettuce and zero calorie ceaser dressing. I will then get on the treadmill for an hour, or whenever the movie I choose to watch is done. I need to compensate for the fact that yesterday, even though I had about 1000 calories, I veered and had two sliced of pizza with the family for dinner instead of something healthy.

Also, when I started this "diet" I had the wrong intentions. I wanted to do the master cleanse. Doing something like that isn't worth it, so I'm trying to get fit and lose weight the healthy way. Another thing, I had two jobs when I began this journey. I am now blissfully unemployed which gives me more time to focus on self-improvment.

Starting tomorrow I will strictly moniter my carb intake. My goal is to eliminate carbs almost completly. Also, start eating 5 tiny meals as opposed to 3 moderate-sized meals.

5 hours of activity:

30 min on the treadmill in the AM

30 minutes of situps, stretches and other light exercises

30 more min on the treadmill at noon

2 hour and 30 minute bike ride to the lake, and around the lake

30 minutes of light exercise before bed

This is how I will beat the plateu!
 
Hi.

If you are eating 500-1000 kcal/day, you are pretty much starving yourself.

Your metabolism is going to slow down as your body hoards nutrients, thus making it harder to lose weight.

I'd say that if you are hitting a plateau, it is probably because you are starving your body.

And there is generally no good reason to eliminate carbs. At least 30-40% of your calories should come from carbs. Carbs are your body's primary fuel source.
Now, hyper-processed, chemically-altered, sugar-laden foods - yes, avoid those.
But fruit, vegetables, whole grains - these are all good for you.

I'm worried that your intended programme is too drastic, and that you are going to hurt yourself, rebound when you can't sustain it, or both.

Trying to lose 27 pounds in one month is pretty extreme.

Is there a particular reason why you want to lose so much weight in such a crash fashion?

I suggest looking around these forums. Read the sticky threads on nutrition and diet, exercise, and healthy weight loss. You may find some useful information there.
 
heyy there !!! my goal is very similar to you! except i'll give a little more time to lose all the weight..I really want to lose all for september but it pretty unhealty so I'll lose what I lose ;) there is my new lifestyle:

i am 18 soon to be 19, weight 184lb and 5'9
I was 197 and lost 13 pound in 3 week(the weight usually come out fast the firstweek) I was doing 45min of walking fast on the stair 3 time a week in the evenning and cutting on soda. But i stopped the exercise but didn't gain any pound.

My goal is to weight 145-150lb :D for december 2009

morning: 15minutes of walking on stair(or mini step) and doing 30setup
then eat breakfast: one bowl(medium) of cereal at 10pm eat a apple

dinner: sandwich (sometime with peanut butter/jelly or egg), or oatmeal, then at 3pm eat a bar, or another fruit

supper: small portion of meat with a lot of veggie/ sometime with a little bit of rice or potato
I'll try to eat before 7pm

my nightime workout will be 40min of cardio (running on stair or stepper or walking faster) + setup or pushup

and most importantly to drink plenty of cold water every day :D
I'll workout 4time a week later i'll add some dumbell to my exercise

You're right, Cord the Seeker. I guess my reasoning is that I'm tired of being fat. I guess because I'm 5'9, and only about 12 pounds shy of a healthy weight I wear my overweightness well, but that's not enough. I don't want to be overweight. I want to, by the end of the summer, be 135 pounds. I don't think 500 calories on a light activity day is starving myself because somedays I really cannot bring myself to eat a normal amount. My body is just like that.

Tonight I decided to have a hearty dinner of indian curry chicken and rice and then I went for a 2 hour bike ride to and round the lake with my little brother.

CherryLynne, so glad to get in contact with you!! We are both the same in so many ways! I'm turning 19, too! <3 You should update your journey in this thread!
 
I am not motivated to exercise, and yesterday I gave in to the pressure of ice cream and pastries when guests came over. It didn't make me gain anything, but I am still at 180. I am angry at myself.
 
lolll me too i didn't get the motivation to exercise yesterday XD but tonignt I am going to move my butt !! today I ate a "little bit" of chocolate hihhi. this morning my weight was at 183 :D great ^^ don't be angry at urself it hard to resist to ICE cream :p

I exercised today, too! I biked 7 miles after lunch as a punishment of sorts because I had what everyone else was having, pasta. :( I realize now that if not for that pasta I would not have had the energy to bike all the way to the lake, around the lake 2 times, and back home. When I came home I had a mango curry beef stew, and some dates, now I'm just resting and will get on the treadmill before bed.

In the morning I will have the same thing I had today which was dates and half a cup of bran flakes with no milk. It's suprisingly filling. Hopefully, if I have time to myself in the morning I will exercise whilst watching music videos.

Keep up the great work, CherryLynne! We can do this! Continue to update me.
 
like I said, i've worked my butt off 2night lolll I did 40 min of walking at a regular speed on the stair (7 step) non-stop. I had for supper a small homemade submarine and a lil bit of french fry :/ but I didn't eat that much this morning(bowl of cereal + chocolate muffin :p).. since I am on vacation I keep getting up at 11h00am loll I'll have to get up much earlier from now own hehe

I plan to exercise sunday, satuday, tuesday & thursday only: 15min in the morning & 40min in the evening ^^

woa that a lot of biking you did today :D!! I agree pasta give you a lot of energy ;)
Every friday morning I'll weight myself & will post it :D

Thank you, and yes, I am very precautious.

I did some light medicine ball exercises for 15 min, and I ran on the tread mill for 25 minutes. I think I'm gonna go to bed now, in hopes of waking up really early to catch the music videos because I like to sing and run- combines my two passions: health and singing!

Lynne, you're making me crave french fries, lol. I haven't had anything fried in months.
 
Just did my morning exercise routine, and had breakfast before that -five dates and some bran flakes and a banana. I am very busy today and won't be able to go on a ridiculously long bike ride, but I will go for a walk after lunch. Not only am I busy but I am also on my period which means cramps, ouch! If I'm not in any pain tonight I will go biking up to the lake.
 
my leg hurt a little bit from yesterday exercising loll I woke up late again 2day -_- I ate a muffin and a bowl of cereal. I'll eat a little bit of steak with some boiled potato and tomato 2night. I plan to stop eating at 7pm & tomorrow morning I'll exercise 15-20min
 
Sounds like a plan, Lynne. Omg, a baked potato sounds so yummy.

I realize now why my weight has stayed at 180...it's because it was the week before my period. It all makes sense now. Where most people would be gaining anywhere from 2-6 pounds of retained water, I maintained my weight through all of the exercise and moderate calorie intake. I think that this week I will actually loose 2-6 pounds whilst on my period, that's what I'm positioning for.

So far today:

5 dates - 60 calories
banana - 70
bran flakes - 100 calories
berry green tea protein and flaxeed smoothie i concocted - 200 calories
bag of sun chips with stew - 510 calories
bag of pretzels - 160 calories

1100 calories today. I'm going to have something that equals 50 calories before my bike ride tonight and then something 50 when I get back. Something like boiled eggs. Then I'm gonna run on the treadmill, then do 30 jumping jacks, and 15 minutes of yoga and meditation.

I am so discouraged. I don't know what's wrong. I've upped my intake, and have resumed biking once again- why am I not seeing a difference in the number on my scale? Ugh. So f-cking frustrating. I think I'm gonna have to up my exercise routine. I need to sweat more perhaps. I hate everything about myself. My thighs and butt I am alright with, I just don't like my back fat and stomach fat and ARM FAT. I am sick of seeing it, and it's not going away. I've been exercising and eating healthy since the beginning of May- why not?

I'm gonna just start fresh. Tomorrow's a new day.

awww don't be discouraged :) you can do it!! you just have to give a little more time..I know how you feel. it so frustating but never give up!! perhaps you should do alot more exercising that target the upper body!? (if you are not doing any much).

my leg hurt so much from my exercising lolll (its been a long time -_-) I ate a little bit to much sugar 2day :3 I don't expect to see the scale moving friday morning XD

I think I'm gonna go vegan. I've been a vegetarian on and off for the past 4 years, and after reading Michael Pollen's the Omnivore's Dillema, I have come to the conclusion that the meat and dairy processing industry is too corrupt for me to consume its food. It's going to be hard, but I have will power, so starting tomorrow old raw foods- no dairy and no meat.
 
don't be depressed.. A weight loss journey is not alway easy! Maybe you are gaining some muscle wich is a good thing loll you can't expect to loose 5pound every week 1-2 pound is the max. I know it sound boring and a long way to go, but I was stuggling with my weight for 3year now, and I alway wanted to loose all my weight during my 2month vacation!! but I gave up after noticing my weight losse was slower and went back being inactif and eating a lot!!!

and maybe you are in a weight loss plateau? change your exercise routine, and add a little more cardio (jump rope, walking running on stair, running doing intervall workout) and exercise 4time a week so you can give your muscle a rest

as for me i am going back to exercise tommorow, my leg feel a lot more better yayy :p
and good luck with your new diet! That sound like a good plan ;)
