Diary of an Overweight Coach

No formal exercise yesterday but did join the Mud Army for a couple of hours clean up which I will count as exercise because shovelling stinky mud is hard work.

Shovelling stinky mud? Eeeuwww. Good for you Tru! 2.5 hour walk- excellent! Crazy weather we have now hey? It must be horrible having homes flooded. Fires would be terrifying, but the mess a flood would leave is hard for me to imagine. Hope "normality," whatever that is these days, gets restored soon. Cheers, Cate

on track with mini challenge so far this week, exercise so far today was 3 hours moving furniture back into the football clubhouse, moving and unpacking boxes of medical supplies into the sports medicine building now all the mud has gone.

was offered to opportunity to do another course later this month, I have become friends with the blind masseuse (Diploma of Massage Therapy) who helps out during football season and she will be doing a course in seated massage, disability services have offered to pay for me to do the course as well if I go with her as her carer. I have basic training in sports massage so any extra training is very much welcome. Will just have to stock up on pain killers for the broken fingers lol.

Hey Tru - you are really burning those calories hey. Very exciting to do another course - go for it. Knowledge is power!

Loads of exercise! Good job!
Your new course sounds great too. Hope your fingers heal more...you really gonna have to use them!

Exercise and mini challenge for the week are going ok so far, Booked plane tickets for flight to Canberra on Saturday before a 2 day drive home in the new car.

Have been feeling rather irritable the last few days, time away from heavy lifting always make me feel this way and hard for the rest of the family to live with so after I get back with the new car next week I will put some heavy strapping on the broken fingers to try the get into the gym and put some meaningful weight on the bar.

Although I am getting my 1 hour a day of exercise in, it is just not effective. unless I am training intensely for 2-3 hours per day I just don't loose weight and cutting calories further is not an option with my calorie limit set by my dietitian at 1100 cal.

If mama aint happy...aint nobody happy!

Hi Tru...glad to see at least a few of my old buddies are still on here.
Hope your life normals out soon and you get back into healthy routines.

What is Normal :)

I think if everything went perfectly to plan all the time life would get booooring lol

Congrats on the new car!! Get cracking with those weights but I think you are really doing great anyway.

I have been MIA for a little while, have been extremely busy and felt I should post an update while I am stuck unable to do much.

I am cut off in all directions with our second major flood in a month (third flood if you count the water rising above minor flood levels a week ago) also cut off from the hospital my youngest son is booked into for surgery tomorrow with the flood water still rising to the point that a peak has not yet been forecast.

on the up side my eldest past his first air force testing with flying colours and was asked to reconsider his job selections to upgrade to either Officer Entry for Intelligence or Aerospace systems engineering rather than applying as a computer tech.

weight is steady but I am wearing jeans today comfortably which I haven't been able to fit into for 6 months, I think the forced layoff from lifting has lead to a loss of muscle mass in my legs :(

Wow that's great news about your son, how exciting. And good news on the jeans from too!

We have family where the wife is stuck at home and hubby stuck across the river in Queensland at the moment. Hopefully it'll stop raining soon.

I hope that the flooding stops soon for you. I have never experienced anything like that.

You are bound to be very proud of your son. It sounds like he has wonderful career prospects.

With luck the jeans will be lost fat and not lost muscle... Wearing smaller jeans always gives a great ego boost. I wish that I could still get into my jeans - but I don't want to buy bigger "fat jeans".

We are one of the lucky ones when it comes to the flooding, we are just cut off unlike all those with muddy water flowing through their houses and we didn't loose power or phone this time. Half the CBD is under water, my two younger kids are at home because the schools are closed and some schools are flooded. most have only just finished cleaning out the mud from less than a month ago. In a few days the cleanup will begin again if the rain ever stops. youngest son's surgery had to be postponed.

Anna I hope your family are ok, there have been more deaths in the flood water again, it make you wonder why these people take the risk of driving on flooded roads, it is bad being stuck but not worth dying for.

I'm happy you are okay. Congratulations on the pants and your son's success. Hopefully your other son's operation isn't pressing. I'm happy to see you back.

Don't worry about muscle loss. Just think of the newb gains you'll get when you get back under the bar.

My sciatica hardly bothers me since I've started biking. I think I'll try lifting again once I'm under 300.

Managed some lifting today, broken fingers are not full healed so no deadlifts etc.

Bench Press

10 @ Bar Only for warmup to test grip on the bar
10 @ 40 kg still warming up fingers feeling ok
10 @ 50 kg solid easy working set, fingers still holding up well
10 @ 60 kg another good set finger getting stiff
5 @ 65 kg feeling it in the fingers, chose not to push the limits but an ok effort with broken fingers and a month away from lifting after the car accident

Agility square

2 X 2 minutes Bilateral
4 X 1 minute Unilateral
concentrate on good solid landings with good form to protect knees

3 X 10 Back Hyper extensions with double twist, no added weight

Reverse Bench Press

3 X 10 feet slightly elevated, fingers failed on last set

Single Leg Squat 2 X 10 each leg
Pistol Squat 2 X 5 each leg

Going to head outside now with the following Plan

5 minutes sole taps - cardio, fast foot skills, ball control
5 minutes of ball slides, toe taps and push pulls - cardio, fast foot skills, ball control
10 minutes kicking drills - technique and power development
10 minutes intervals - cardio, anaerobic sprint endurance.
10 minutes Stretching.

Football season has been postponed a month because we are still getting everything back in order after the third flood in a month. But I need to freshen up my skills for when training finally gets under-way.

not a bad day today sort of, glad I at least got 40 minutes outside during a rain break. Food was OK but my allergies will give me hell tomorrow when the small slice of apple pie (Sons school cooking) filters through my system lol.

I AM SICK OF RAIN

despite the flood waters dropping it is still raining, the forecast is for more rain, the ground is saturated still and it will only take the rain to intensify slightly for the flood waters to rise again GRRRRR

I know it is still cyclone season which is usually very wet but I am over it already, can it please stop ARRRG feel like I am going insane.

I meet the new team junior team I am coaching for this season today. Despite it still raining and the fields being still waterlogged we need to have at least a team meeting even if it is not possible to train.

muscles are feeling good this morning, was expecting slight DOMS following the forced time away from lifting but seems I kept things light enough to not even feel stiff.

Will Do heavy legs today so that any DOMS I may induce won't happen till Thursday/Friday and won't have an effect on football training in the afternoon. Although I will have to use mostly machines rather than my usual free weights because my finger will not handle the weight that is needed on the bar for normal training. If I can get within 100 kg of my max on leg press I will be moderately happy.

I have been avoiding the scales during the forced layoff but when I get back into normal routine I will do a weight check and organise caliper readings for my BF%
