Diary of an Overweight Coach

Spent all day inside today, 1 hour on the bike for exercise

was planning to go down the coast tomorrow for a MtG pre release tournament but with the flooding may not be able to get to the other side of town and even if we can we would run the risk of not being able to get home because the water is expected to rise more during tomorrow. Monsoon rain systems are not fun our driveway is a river and our overflow dam is overflowing. Should have expected it, same thing happened this time last year lol.

Weather is shocking this morning windy with heavy monsoon rain, Wind gusts in excess of 125km/h are expected today, the river has reached moderate flood levels and expected to exceed major flood levels this afternoon, glad I live on a hill (not so good when it comes to the wind) and in theory the gym is above the major flood level height. Looks like I may be cut off from town for a few days. Oh the joys of living in a sub tropical area prone to cyclones lol

will brave the weather to get to the shed to spend some time on the bike later, not happy about missing the card tournament.

Your weather does sound rather stormy! Hope it improves a bit. Here we got cut off when it snowed (southern USA) People are not used to snow here - so not much is done about it - mainly wait until the weather is warmer...so we just waited out until the snow melted.

When I am able to get into town I will post some pics of the flooding which is over all the main bridges already and it is expected to rise at least another 5 meters yet. I have been told they are in the process of emptying the shops in the centre of town in preparation, likely to peak tonight or tomorrow somewhere over the 20 meter mark.

most people here are used to floods but the power in the water is awesome to watch no matter how many time you have seen it before.

Update: the latest flood warning update has increased the expected peak to 21 metres

just watched our town on the news showing a bit of the flooding and evacuations, there is somebody missing in the flooding, bloody idiots should not drive through flood water, odds are like in this case the water has enough power to wash cars and trucks of the road.

flooding is going to be worse than the 2011 flood.

Exercise: 1 hour, clearing fallen tree from driveway during a break in the rain and wind.

Saw it on the news tonight Tru. Glad you're on top of a hill, like us. Hope things improve for you soon! Cheers, Cate

Hey Tru - oh my .... wild flooding .... keep safe .....
..and what irony that your exercise was removing a fallen tree ...sheesh...
maryann .

Ouch!! January is quite a month for you!
Hope the flood goes down soon & you can get to town.
stay safe

here are some flood photo's taken at the 20m mark, with another metre or more still to rise as the water flows down from the catchment

the photo of the towing company shows the intersection where I had the accident and my car is now under the water behind the building which is on a hill.

the photo of the bridge entering the water goes across the highway and the river and sits 17 meters above the normal river level.

The sports medicine building where I work is completely submerged.

Exercise today was 2.5 hours walking (steep hills) checking out the flood water which splits the town in three and cuts the main highway. First day back at school tomorrow for the kids, plenty of teachers will be flooded in but the school is open and hubby has to show up for work.

Those floods look really scary. Glad you are safe.

2.5hour walk?!?!? High 5 for that!! You are gonna be firming up so nicely with all the exercise!!

Great job!

town is still cut off from the rest of the state, I am now out of fresh veg other than what is in my storm damaged garden, with the town likely to be cut off for a few more days at least I hope there will still be something worth buying at the supermarket this afternoon when I will be able to get hold of a car to drive. I still have frozen stuff but I prefer fresh.

Kids have been sent home from school, because too many teachers were flooded, but hubby doesn't get the day off.

heading down to the shed to spend an hour on the bike and do some light weights within the limits of my injuries and the small amount of iron I have at home.
