Diary of an Overweight Coach

Thanks Jen

Although this is not weight loss related, my thoughts are with those in NSW and Victoria including some of my relatives who are in the Bushfire area near Sale. It also bring back memories of the Canberra fires 10 years ago, where my mother was one of the lucky ones who kept their home and my brother spent the worst day in the firestorm helping elderly people out of their homes and fighting the fires in the worst effected suburb.

as I was typing above it just came on the news that a big fire is now burning out of control near the town where I grew up in the far south coast of NSW, and where most of my relatives live along with a few friends I still have in the area. It is rough dense bushland mostly inaccessible.

This is turning into a very bad summer.

Bush fires are so scary. I spent some of my childhood inRockhampton, and I remember the bushcraft classes on what to do in a bush fire. Scared me silly. We get a lot of reports about epwhat is happening over there, and we all worry about our Aussie neighbors and cuzzie-bros.

yep it seem pretty common for Kiwi crews to help over here and Aussie crews to head your way for earthquakes etc.

My hubby has Kiwi citizenship, so when sporting events are on like the Cricket or the Rugby he is usually claiming to be supporting the winning side because of his tri nationality English/Kiwi/Aussie.

Having trouble sleeping so typing here so I don't snack while I get sleepy

You might be a powerlifter if…
before your set you walk back and forth in front of the weights trying to intimidate them.

you've ever shouted, screamed, and/or growled at an inanimate collection of metal, and think this is perfectly sane. If your friends are in perfect agreement and don't worry about your mental state, you might be a powerlifter, and so might they.

you complain that your knee wraps were not tight enough because there was no bruising.

you have baby powder, superglue, duct tape, chalk and ammonia in your gym bag

you have more garments in your gym bag made of polyester than is worn by the whole crew at McDonald's....You might be a powerlifter.

you have been asked why the hell you are wearing shin guards at the gym... you might be a powerlifter.

You Might be a Powerlifting Female if…

If you can make the guys in the supplement store looking at their import car magazines and comparing bicep routines both laugh and cry.
- Laugh, when you tell them you can out-bench and out-squat them.
- Cry, when you demonstrate this to be true.

women in the locker room look at your powerlifting bruises with concern and ask whether you are a battered spouse. Those same women look even more concerned when you shrug and tell them that you enjoy it.

when people complain about how tight their clothes are you throw your head back and laugh.

Water yesterday - 3 litres
Water so far this morning as of 7 am - 1 litre
Pushups this morning - 300 (30 minutes) feeling a bit stiff

I have 6 hours of driving to do today, have to drive to the airport and back to pick up hubby after his trip to Sydney.

I like the powerlifter list. How about...

If you get your magnesium supplementation through your skin and lungs.

If you have a derogatory term for the pad people put on the bar for squatting.

If someone tells you they had a nosebleed/passed out/puked during or after a lift and you congratulate them.

yep those ones fit right in :D

I think you need to be a powerlifter just to move my gym bag lol

What I usually have in my gym bag

Large Baby powder
A minimum of 1 block of chalk in resealable plastic bag so I can chalk my hands without making a mess and getting banned from the gym
2 tubes of super-glue (had to replace recently, didn't have any when I needed it a couple of weeks ago)
1 bottle of ammonia capsules
1 bottle of No-doz
one set of shin guards
Knee length socks
1 pair of Chucks
1 pair of suit slippers
1 Polyester bench shirt, my comp shirt stay at home most of the time
1 polyester squat suit
1 polyester deadlift suit
1 polyester erector shirt
1 set of knee wraps
1 set of wrist wraps
1 soft suit
1 baby pink lever style belt (I broke my last one which was black, chose pink because of a Dare)
1 digital egg timer
2.5 litre bottle of water
1 clipboard with workout plan
2 pens
HR monitor
Spare clothes as needed
towel

hmm I think that is all that's in there at the moment but the contents do vary.

Wow! 6 litres of water! Go you!! I guess when you do more exercise you can drink more. I can manege about 2 litres for now.

Your gym bag looks rather comprehensive!! Yep, you definitely are a powerlifter!

finished yesterday with 3.5 litres of water and finished of with 30 minutes heavy bag.

This morning 1.5 litres so far
30 minutes bike, 13.7 km, 774 cal, 144 average HR, about 340 watts on average but did fluctuate a bit.

will do more tonight.

sitting here feeling miserable, and typing with one hand, in a lot of pain, almost certain that I have broken one finger probably 2. my training tells me I should go and get an x-ray to be sure but experience tells me that I know they are broken and that the hospital would only splint them like they are now.

Shit this means no lifting for 4-6 weeks, it is even hard to train legs when you cannot hold the weight or even load the bar. Crap, Crap, Crap, Triple Crap. %$#@#$%$@$@ $#@$%@ &!$#%!

My middle ASD son had an Autistic spac attack and kicked them. He doesn't have as many freak outs as my youngest son but there is almost no limit to the adrenalin powered strength someone with ASD can generate. He may be super smart but it still doesn't change the fact that Autism has no cure and all 3 of my boys are Autistic.

it also mean i miss full points for todays exercise and will get no exercise points tomorrow either

No

Heat
Alcohol
Running (exercise = increased bloodflow = increased bleeding = increased bruising = longer recovery)
Massage

in the first 48 hours after injury.

unfortunately I cannot take the ice, when you put ice on an injury where there is a broken bone it often causes excruciating pain. Working in sports medicine it is one way to help determine if a player has broken something when you treat them on the field. I have treated enough broken fingers in my time to understand exactly what I have done.

Signs/symptoms of a broken bone

1. deformation
2. immediate swelling
3. bruising in a straight line
4. ice causes more pain

I have all but No 1, but my fingers look pretty deformed anyway. going to get hubby to drive me into town this morning to get it confirmed by x-ray because i cannot drive the car myself (bit hard to change gear with broken fingers)

Bloody oath Tru! That SUCKS!! I'm sitting here, with a sore thumb, that has hurt since I started playing golf 3 months ago & you have busted fingers!!! OUCH!! "Sorry" just doesn't cover it! xoC

finally got home after the X-Ray, confirmed one break and the other badly bruised. The had to cut my wedding ring of with a power cutter because the swelling is so bad it was threatening to cut off circulation on the broken finger.

Thanks for the support cate :) I hope your thumb begins to feel better, is it your grip on the club causing the problem ?

Omgsh girl youve had one heck of a time! i feel so bad! did I read that all 3 of your boys are autistic?? Wow that must be crazy rare! i wish i could help you (( hugs))
