Wow
Thanks everybody for the warm welcome!
Santa Cruz, especially the independent Natty Foods Store known as Staff of Life, caters to raw foodism very much so. That store has more sprouted, dehydrated & raw grain and nut goodies than I've seen anywhere else in Santa Cruz. Raw food, when you're only eating fruits and veggies and raw fish or meat (yes, there are lots of raw foodists who eat raw meat. I say YUCK but it works for them!), gets boring, fast.
So for breakfast I've been eating Lydia's Cinnamon Cereal. 1/2 cup = 270 calories, and I eat it with almond milk (this is not raw, because I can't find unpasteurized almond milk ground at low temperature. My diet is probably 90%+ raw).
Description: "All sprouted nuts & seeds, sunflower seeds, quinoa, buckwheat, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and cinnamon. Dehydrated at low temperatures to preserve the "life force". "
Valerie says: It's really crunchy and chewy and takes a long time to chew and eat, which is a good thing because I'm typically a fast eater

It tastes OK, but I put a tablespoon raw organic Agave syrup on it to sweeten the deal. It has 24% RDA of fiber which probably explains why I'm so satisfied after.
Snacks, I'll have fruit and/or some raw organic sharp cheddar cheese by Organic Valley. It comes in 8 oz blocks, so I cut it in half, half the halves, and half the halves again, for easy grabbing of 1 oz (110 calories).
Description: "Our raw milk sharp cheddar is minimally processed to preserve milk enzymes and proteins, then aged for 300 days for even more delectable cheddar flavor. We recommend feeding raw milk cheeses to children over the age of 2 years"
Valerie says: Even though I used to be a vegan a few years ago, this stuff is solid gold!!
For lunch I'll have these crackers, Lydia's again, with avocado, maybe another oz of cheese, and some kind of raw spread. There's a restaurant in Santa Cruz called La Vie, and it's mainly raw foods, and they've been sticking their salads, raw fresh rolls, and blueberry "cheesecake" on the shelves of the Natty Foods stores around town. I had Lydia's crackers with the "beanless" hummus, and it is quite good.
Description: "Lydia's Lovin Foods Ginger Nori Crackers have a nutritious crunch with a vegetable nori flavor. These crackers are made from nuts, seeds, herbs, spices and sea vegetables. The ginger flavor gives them a little extra zing. Ginger lovers will go nuts for these. These are great plain or can be served with the spread of your choice.
All Lydia's Organics foods and crackers are made with all organic ingredients, gluten-free and soy-free, great raw food. Try all five varieties of Lydia's Organics raw food crackers.
Ingredients: Sprouted almonds, sprouted sunflower seeds, carrots, celery, nori, parsley, sprouted flax, ginger, Himalayan Crystal Sea Salt & love. Dehydrated at low temperature to preserve "life-force". "
Valerie says: They're pretty good, but can get boring. I'm going to mix it up with lunch, probably have more salads once I find a suitable dressing.
For Dinner I've been hacking away at this 1 lb chunk of sashimi grade ahi I get from The Fish Lady, which is in Soquel and is locally owned and actually carries a large percentage of my company's wines, too. I slice a few ounces of fish and squeeze lemon juice on top, and spray with Bragg's Liquid Aminos as well. I've been also eating arugula leaves with Bragg's sprayed in my mouth because I'm really lazy right now.
Valerie says: Raw ahi makes me shudder just a TINY bit, and I use a latex glove to handle the fish while I'm cutting, but the lemon and raw soy sauce makes it taste pretty damn good. It's only a minuscule 120 calories per 3-4 oz (!) and my body digests it so easily it's ridiculous. Talk about protein! It really satisfies my hunger.
I add more raw treats if I feel like it, there are Raw Food Bars that are chocolately-good, and I have these things called "Buckwheat Chrunchies" that look terrible but taste DELICIOUS and are really satisfying:
Kaia Foods
This is only for 3 days. I'm totally going to mix it up because I plan on being raw for over a month, if possible. OH and I drink all the raw, unpasteurized Kombucha I want. Kombucha is a trip,

BUT! I DO have exceptions. I'm not drinking beer, but I'm allowing myself occasional wine and champagne in social settings. When I'm at home, alone, no drinking. So far it's been very easy.
How I felt: the first day I was tired and hungry, the second I was spaced out and felt like I was on drugs, but not hungry, and today I feel great and am not hungry, and after I eat I'm satisfied. The best thing about eating raw is you can easily stop eating and you don't really get uncontrollable munchies. Oh yeah, and you lose fat like it's going out of style
