DCarr10760's Weight loss diary

Sheryl,

Thanks, it was a long time ago. He just came into mind because folks were talking about how some thin people seemingly can eat anything and never gain a pound. David was like that (funny thing, both of my best friends were named David, makes it kinda confusing...)

As a college graduation gift David's Dad gave him a trip anywhere in the world he wanted to go. He chose to trek across Alaska in Winter! It was over a month, they had to have food dropped and eventually had to cut the trip short because they couldn't carry enough food to match what they were burning. He lost a lot of weight. And had the time of his life. Twenty years later he still beamed when he talked about it.

Thanks for letting me ramble on about him.

David C

P.S. I like your random silly messages! DC

Hate to say it but we'll probably all have to stay vigilant forever. Most important thing is to nip changing (bad) habits in the bud. Best thing is to keep weighing regularly so we cant deny any gains, and never get over-confident that we wont blow up again cuz unfortunately its a lot easier to gain than to get, or keep, it off.

Amen to that Blancita!

I love your journal David
it always make me think!

After I had my youngest son (11)
I blew up to about 275lbs,
I'm 6 foot so I was 100 pounds overweight.
I had to take it off and I got back down to 180.
I found that as long as I worked out I kept it off.
I mean I watched what I ate,, but heck
I love food and I wasn't always perfect.
When I worked out regularly
I could pretty much eat what I wanted, within reason.
And I did keep it off for like 9 years
until I got sick and stopped moving.
Then I put weight back on.

So for me moving is key,
I'm having trouble with it now cause it hurts.
Yesterday I didn't move.
bad sona!

today is new and shiny,
gonna try to ride my bike.

take care David

I guess I'll post a before and during pic then (sans beer cans, big screen TV's and oscillating fans).

Oh, c'mon. Boorrring! lol How about borrowing one of Sheryl's zucchinis?:rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Hey, I agree with Griff about moving your ticker whenever you hit a new low--I do the same thing.

Hope you had fun at the company picnic today and behaved yourself (and I don't mean with just the eating!):rotflmao: Man, I wish I'd read your diary sooner so I could've crashed the picnic and gotten some free Guinness!!:jump:

Sorry to hear about your friend's tragic death. That is very sad.

You will get to 235 by your birthday. My crystal ball told me so..:jump:

Oh, c'mon. Boorrring! lol How about borrowing one of Sheryl's zucchinis?

Oh, that little thing? ;)

I was okay at the picnic. Just okay. I had some raw clams, a little bowl of clam chowder, some steak and salad and one or twelve beers. I skipped all the desserts except some homemade chocolate chip cookies (3).

I had a good time, my wife and Davy couldn't go, but my older two sons came, which was fun. We played Frisbee and "beer pong" which I had never heard of, but which my two sons seemed quite skilled at, which I suppose ought to concern me. Fortunately, nobody seemed to be drinking when they sunk a ball. Of course it's a family business so everybody's parents were around somewhere which I'm sure dampened the frivolity.

Anyhoo, I dutifully typed it into my fitday log and it was a not-so-bad 2600 calories. I'll just think of it as refeeding, yeah, that's it! Refeeding. (Sounds better than 'pigging out').

So today I felt great on my walk and the rest of the weekend I'll be a good boy!

Next week we're hosting a sales meeting with our sales manager from Georgia and new reps from Germany that I'll be training and wining and dining. So while I'll endeavor to keep calorie totals withing reasonable bounds, it's likely that I'll have to work hard to balance the four food groups, burnt animal flesh, alcohol, sugar and fat.

After that it's clear sailing to Christmas!

(for whom this site was down all last evening)

Hey everybody!

Today was a good day. Eating was right on. Took a good walk this AM. I got a lot of work done on the house (we're renovating a 1920's era Dutch Colonial). Everybody was in a good mood, even managed some equestrian conveyance ;)

I feel good and folks are starting to realize I'm in the downward phase of the great sine wave that is my weight.

It's nice to be noticed (Mr. Cellophane)

Too much joy and contentment yesterday must've challenged the fates.

About 1:00 AM Davy woke up and was screaming!! I bounded out of bed to find him sitting in a pool of spitup (ick!). So SWMBO and I gave him a quick bath, changed all the linens and tried to calm him down. We got him all cleaned up and she was rocking him and he ralphed all over hissef and her!

So we did it all again...and again and then one more time. I finally got him to sleep just before 3:00 AM.

So I missed my walk...

How's that for a whining excuse?

So we're all laying a bit low today... Hope you're all having more fun! (If that were possible)

Ain't parenthood a beautiful thing. :jump:

Yeah, my wife and I always wonder at times like these how single parents do it. Seems like we are at 100% energy capacity full out with the one! And he's a really easy kid.

My older two were harder in some ways and easier in others. Being in my mid forties rather than late twenties/early thirties makes some things easier ($$$) and some things harder (part of the reason I'm losing weight to increase my energy level).

I know what you mean. My middle boy hated vegetables big time. I'd put food on his plate and a single green bean, he'd sit and stare at it and eat nothing! When asked why he didn't eat, he'd say, "that green bean is bodring (bothering) me!"

After finishing the rest of his meal, when I basically forced him to eat the one green bean, he'd put it to his lips and start gagging even before putting it into his mouth! Then he'd upchuck everything!

I finally relaxed about it and now (16) he'll eat most vegetables.

Im sorry your little guy is sick best damn excuse to not exercise - lol - I hope he feels better soon:)

Thanks, so far today everything has stayed down, so tomorrow will hopefully be better.

Oooh! I am sorry to hear you and your family had such a rotten night. Is Davy feeling better now? Poor thing! As I don't have children, I haven't had too much experience with middle of the night puking. However, I have cleaned up tons of cat vomit..:rotflmao: There. Now I've ruined your appetite for the rest of the night! :rotflmao:

Yes, I don't know how single parents do it. It must be hard as hell unless one is rich and can afford to hire a full-time nanny. And I know that most single parents do this--NOT!

Yeah, Brittney Spears and one other would make two...

Davy seems fine now, who knows? We all ate the same stuff and with a toddler you can't avoid his germs and we are both fine (knock, knock, knock on wood).

So it's a mystery...

Had enough energy to dig out the lifecycle and do 25 mins. cardio just to say I did something! Worked up a pretty good head of steam!

Hopefully I'll have good news from the scale gods in the AM. I will probably switch this week to Griffs technique of posting the lowest low. I've been weighing myself daily (thanks Blancita!) and I'm trying not to get too stressy about minor variations.

So despite Davy's episodic hurling, it was a good day!

Sleep well all!

Hey David!
Thanks for the support in these rough times--I appreciate it!! It's very sweet of you.

Looks like you're very involved in your children's lives--that's beautiful. Yeah, exercising and eating to deficit must be a real challenge sometimes!

Have a great night yourself! :hug2:

Well today I'm down 2 pounds for the week! Yay!

So far I have lost 19 pounds. 4-inches off of my waist and hips, dropped two pants sizes and a shirt size. It's been a few days over one month.

Not the fastest weight loss I've ever had, but I'm very happy with it and with all the support I've gotten here.

Thanks and onward!

Good morning David!

I wanted to come by and say hello and congrats on your weightloss!!! I have read some of your posts on other's diaries, and I finally got over here to read your diary! I have been impressed with your attitude and sense of humor! Now that I have read your diary through and want to commend you on how well you have done and your positive, realistic approach! I can so relate to so much of what you posted.

Kudos to you for being a great dad (to all of your sons!). I have enjoyed reading your posts about being a dad. Thanks for sharing that part of your life, too! Having been divorced (with 4 kids) and now remarried (with 2 step-kiddos), and being a family law paralegal, I understand the whole single parent/divorce dynamic and issues on both a personal and professional level).

Hope you are having a great day, David!!!!

Congrats on the 2lbs and the inches lost! That is great. And remember--fast weight loss isn't always the best weight loss. i need to remind myself of that! :rotflmao:

Thanks for stopping by and your kind words, my kids have been a big part of my life. Being a parent again at 46 has been a real joy...overall :)

Thanks, if you need more insight to the murky inner-workings of the male psyche, lemmeknow! I'm an expert, having been a male since I was a fertilized egg. ;) far longer than many!

MidGAGuy

Thanks for swinging by and rightbackacha!

Bikinibound

I think the more weight I lose, the slower it seems to go (if that makes sense). I'm just impatient...I know better, but it's hard to practice what I preach!

Sheryl

Sorry about hubby feeling under the weather. Most men are big babies when they get sick. I know I am! But it explains the squash...;)

Thanks all, your support is really appreciated!

Have a good night!

I just may take you up on that offer! Question: are you married, and if so, did you get married before or after kids? Just curious, there are a lot of single parents on here and I haven't snooped through your diary enough to see what the deal is. Cheers!
