Hmmmm!!!! What to do. Everyone says don't bite off more than you can chew. I stopped smoking 14 days ago. During that time, I learned that walking helps one to have less cigarrette cravings. So, I start walking. Then I start thinking. If I am going to be walking then why not shoot for more...

I weighed myself 221 OUCHHHHHHHHh........ I never have been a big eater..matter of fact my son always threatens to feed me. He is 5'4'' and 120 pounds. So I decide to heck with it. I am going to try both at once.

I became so obsessed with weighing myself, that I asked my hubby friday to please take the scales...hide them and let me have them back saturday. I mean come on Angie...5x a day is a bit much.

Most of my weight came from Mountain Dew. I am/was not sure which..crazy about it.

First thing when I woke up..had to have a 20 oz.. Then throughout the day and night I would drink between 8 and 10 ..12 ounce Mountain Dews.

Well, my doctor left and I had to find a new one. I made my first appt.
Went in, she was very nice. She ordered some blood work. I went home..next morning, I get a call from her (not the nurse) quite suprised that she had called...I listen..Angie, I need you to come back in the am and redo the bloodwork. I didn't ask any questions..wasn't sure I wanted to know.

I ate my breakfast.forgot what it was, and drank my dew. takes just a few minutes and I am back home. I get a call the next morning. Angie, I need you to come in the morning...more labs.,.This time come fasting please.

I still ask no questions. I do as, asked. two days later I get called back..can you come in and see me? Sure. great.

By, now I am getting concerned. I arrive in a bit of a daze...I feel sick..I enter her office. When we took your labs and you had ate and or drank..your blood sugar was 55.when we took the labs and you were fastig it was 80....however the insulin and C-pepite were high. Am I diabetic? No, you have hypoglycemia. I want tyo schedule a glucose tolerence test for you..takes about 5 hours. Woahhhhh wait. If a person consumed a large amount of sugar for a prolonged period of time could that cause these numbers?
I would think so she said can you define large and prolong? When I did I thought her jaw was gonna drop to the floor.
She called a specialist to be sure. He agreed that could be the cause.

i was told to cut back slowly then stop. I tried a lil..but I was thinking why should anyone take from me what I like. To make this longggggggggggggg story short, I didn't cut back untill I quit smoking.

What has all this got to do with weight? Well 221 and mountain dew.hmmmmmmm (eating habits were unhealthy as well) (couldn't breathe to exercise.

So, I decide to use slim-fast. I can't seem to get my 1500 calories in no matter how hard I try.

heres how it has been so far.

Dear Diary, I made up my mind what my goals are. A sensible daily food intake, I plan to attempt to stick around 1500 calories.

Walking mostly, for exercise. Some aerobics tossed in..some pilates for tonig.

Current weight as of March 25,2007 221. I will weigh every Saturday.

I hope to lose at least 1 pound a week.

Hi Angie,
Welcome to the WLF and to your diary!

Good for you for getting started down this road! Just know that you CAN lose this weight - you can be fit and healthy!

It's just one pound, one day, one meal at a time!

One pound a week is more than reasonable as a goal. I think you'd lose more with your low calorie intake, but I'll bet Steve would tell you to eat more than that at the size you are now...

Welcome to the diary section....I just started one, too!

dear Diary, I have found a way to eat most of my dinners with my family. At, the same time they are eating healthier and not knowing it. I fix extra veggies...cut some cucumbers and place then with a toothpick inserted. That gets the kids everytime. Throwing in mainly fruit for dessert. All is going good for now. :)

Hello, again Diary, seems you and I just may become friends after all. yesterday was rough. I got into an argument with my middle son...... I was uspet enough that I said freak it and grabbed my keys and left. First thought was I need a cigarrette....haha well seeing that I quit thos on march 12th what was I to do. Then the cravings for sugary things came. I was so close that I almost caved in. Instead I went and got gas.. Went and got dinner out. (it was healthy) Then I went to the track and walked untill I felt I come home and know I wasn't going to throttle that boy. So, it all worked out.

Later

Dear Diary, I had my first weigh in today. I lost four pounds. I know one loses more the first week (water, etc) However I am still pleased. One day at a time.:D

Welcome! And great job on not givnig in to the cravings! I know how bad some of them can be!

Four pounds is great! keep it up!

Woops! Sorry it took so long to answer...Steve is a guy on here who gives great advice about exercise and diet. his journal is called "Journey, not a Destination". He's helped a lot of people on the forum parse information about exercise, how much, calories, how many, what deficits are, how much you should be eating, what kids of exercises to do to help meet your goals, etc. etc. His journal's worth a read.

Great job so far!!

:( Hospice has been called in with my grandmother.

I am the only homemaker in the family. so, I am the one who will be staying with her during the day. My uncle will come in each evening at 5:00.

I live 25 miles from her. I have to be there by 6:00 am.
I am trying to figure a way to do this...still eat healthy.
Come home and cook for the family and still fit in exercise.

Any suggestions

Hello. I am sorry for this difficult time you are in. We just went through the hospice situation with my grandfather this past January.
I came by your diary to encourage you because we are both Foxes on the Spring Challenge, but it looks as if you need encouragement in other areas right now. I hope you are able to figure out how to do all the things you need to do and still cope emotionally. I'll check back with you soon...sorry I have no suggestions on the cooking and eating healthy part.

I'm not sure about being there by 6am, can't really help with that, BUT, what if you had groceries there at her house, or brought them with you and prepared meals in advance during the day and only had to cook them when you got home. Would that work? I have a great pasta sauce recipe that I can give you and if you double the ingredients, you will have 2-3 meals. ..just freeze 1/2 of the sauce for a later time, and it's wonderful.

I also used to do a lot of cooking on Sunday for the week. I would boil enough chicken for Chicken Enchiladas or tacos, Chicken casserole; make a double batch of pasta sauce which for hubby and I will make 3-4 different meals using whole wheat pasta or make pizza using turkey pepperoni and 2% mozzarella cheese w/a store bought pie crust.

Does she need your constant attention? If not, maybe you could do lunges or jumping jacks in another room.

Also, if you could find a stationary cycle, that you could leave there and use while there.

I know how hard it is to quit smoking. I quit 9 years ago this past February 15, and I honestly tried to smoke 4 years after I quit, because I remembered the taste and feeling I got from smoking, but it was no longer there for me. It was disgusting. yuck! I still crave what I remember the taste of them to be, but that is something I no longer want to acquire. ..

Also, a classmate and friend committed suicide the day I gave up my cigarettes, and it was so hard to keep my pact with myself, but I did. Day in and day out, while my entire family smoked.

I know you can do it!!!

P.S. Good luck on your weigh in, my fellow fox!
