Couch POTATO to "MARATHON" HONEY! :)

Love the attitude! Look forward to getting lots of motivation from your posts in the near future!! I also look forward to reaching some goals with you in the New Year! I'll be working towards a half marathon myself so any pointers will be appreciated!

Running Tips!

Thanks woman!!!.:D...Tips?! Sure!.. Alta's Tips to running more & Further: :p

1) Find your why? "Why are you doing this?" It needs to be deep so that you will continue on once it gets hard.

2) Stay in the Present moment. Only worry about the "next step"...if you can do that, you will Always succeed. Take one more step, You can do it...step by step.

3) Don't look at the whole distance at all. Or think.."Omg..I have this much to go"..Blah! None of that! Stay "present".

4) Run outside. It's way easier and funner than a treadmill.

5) If you can, find a partner. If not,...like I did for a long long time...."Imagine/Picture/Pretend"...That you have not only a Partner...but that Lance Armstrong...who made it past Cancer, and won the Tour De France how many times...is your Partner!...I mean, How you gonna let HIM down right?!?!....KEEP GOING!!!

6) Get New Shoes...and dedicate them to RUNNING! ;) ...because you "ARE a RUNNER already!" ...think as if it's done!

7) Stretch like a MOFO to stay injury free---B4 and After! No excuses!

"I run with my head, my heart and my guts, because physically, I don't think I've got a great deal of talent or ability. I started at the bottom and worked up."

Steve Jones, former marathon world record holder

Thanks Alta - those are good tips - I do wish I had a partner and think I would suck it up and face the cold if someone was doing it with me. The treadmill does get very boring.
Do you warm up before you stretch? I have heard and don't know if it's true that you could get injured stretching cold muscles.

Omg girl!...For sure I stretch!...I have gotten injured in the past by not stretching....Injuries hurt! They can put you out of commission for a month-3 months. Depending. I would definitely stretch, especially if you are doing longer distances. :)

...different people have different takes, but my running partner as well, got injured because she didn't stretch before a 20 mile run we did one time...and it took her out for the Marathon, and for 3 1/2 months after that as well.

Here is a little inserpt from Runners World:

The best research on stretching and injury prevention has been done with military recruits. Military training has much in common with exercise, and the Army has a huge interest in keeping injuries to a minimum. In one study, titled "Physical Training and Exercise-Related Injuries," a U.S. Army research team found that trainees with the highest and lowest flexibility had the highest injury rates. They were, respectively, 2.2- and 2.5-times more likely to incur an injury than trainees with average flexibility. Apparently, when it comes to flexibility and injuries, don't try to be all that you can be. Settle for average.

Surprisingly, the best-known stretching-for-runners team in the United States, the father-son duo of Jim and Phil Wharton, agree with the medical research conclusions. "We don't even use the word 'stretching' anymore," the Whartons say. "It conjures up an image of static stretching--of holding still for too long, like the tension created by a tug of war. That can actually weaken the muscle-tendon connection."

The Whartons promote AI ("active, isolated") flexibility exercises. These exercises move the muscle and joint gently and progressively to the point of slight tension, then immediately release the tension, and then repeat 10 times. There's no static-stretching hold for 10 to 30 seconds. "This promotes healthy blood circulation and lubrication to the joint," say the Whartons, whose fans include Deena Kastor, Alan Webb, and Khalid Khannouchi.

The Fat Smash sounds interesting -- please keep us updated.

I got the same Christmas bonus you did -- completely unexpected -- nothing says "I appreciate you" like cash. Can't decide what to spend it on -- thinking of blowing the whole thing on one really super bottle of Champagne for the New Year.

OH wow!!!!! That sounds STUPENDOUS!!..What kind would you get? What's that one expensive one called...umm...."Crystal!"? I think it's right around there...the other day I saw it driving and it said $239.00 and I thought.. Damn!!! That must be some good Champagne!!! ...I hope you enjoy!!!

:D!

Hi Alta. One of my goals for 2010 is to increase my running and do at least a 10K, maybe even a half marathon. I will remember what you said about focusing on the present. I often defeat myself by thinking of how much further I have to go when I already feel like stopping. LOL You will be my inspiration when I run.

hahaha...thanks Derrick!!!

...You were My Inspiration last night @ the gym!...I thought to myself, well, look at Derrick, he is just a champion and not letting a few pounds hold him back and working HARD again, and I too am beginning to work hard again, and I too will have results like him soon too! :D!

...I just ran my ass off for 1 hour there...after my 15 lb gain :banghead:!!! :(

...GreaT for you on this new running adventure! Everyone can do it, and especially you,...like you just said, thinking about the Longevity of it all can really sabotage your efforts to keep going!..Just stay present! ;)!

Life is a Rollercoaster, Ride the ups and be HaPPY, so U can Enjoy the Downs!

The COLD HARD DIRTY TRUTH: I gained 15 lbs in 5 weeks!!! :banghead: (now 167, from 152)

...........It's true:
7 days all inclusive resort eating and drinking.
21 days keeping it going back home, eating and drinking.
7 days Christmas eating and drinking

............All in all here, Important lesson learned.....drinking and eating what you want, when you want is the FOR SURE way to gain on the holidays!....Yesterday, was the day, I wanted to face the Truth and since I am a pretty good judge of pounds on my body, I already knew that I was going to come in super heavier :nopity:. I was Right! :dupe:

...........I decided to get on the treadmill and run and incline walk for one hour since my running partner couldn't make it for our outside run last night,...but it gave me time to think. I realized that I did this same gain to myself last Christmas, and that I did this yo yo thing all year last year. I'm done with that. I am now prepared to not OVERKILL myself, but to find a happy medium that I can continue daily and maintain FOR LIFE!

...........I almost wanted to kill myself on the treadmills, and do all kinds of working out for hours, but I thought ....what is that going to do? It's going to make me sweat like crazy, and then what?! Then I'm gonna get super sore tomorrow, and I'm gonna get frustrated that I still look the same, and then I'm going to want to sabotage my workout because the world didn't change over my EXCESSIVE effort that night.

.........Instead, I made a pack to myself, to do "the attainable"!...have the "slight edge" in life!....One hour of working out a day, every day, will take me to succes. If anything is done extra...so be it...but no pressure to do 3 hours of working out, like my mind was telling me that I had to do. It's the little steps that amount to the distance. I know this. I've done this. That is how you get to 26.2 miles. Step by Step you are getting there.

........As well, I told myself,....that "Cheating is a choice!" I chose to cheat myself and that is what I did. I am fine with that, now.

.........Forgiveness of oneself is what creates inspiration!! We can realize that things are learning experiences and just a ride through life, and we can now appreciate the low's from experiencing the high's!!! :D!

.....Regardless of my gain, I am excited because I will try my damn hardest to stay "consistent" and attain the things I want, because I want them and it's about the "slight edge daily"!

.........we don't have to move mountains in a day,...as long as we pick up a rock daily and move it over, the mountain will move throughout time!..That's the DAMN truth!....no need to kill yourself in one night, so that you don't want to do anything else the others. Keep it "slightly" moving daily...:auto: I'm ready!

........I have the CHOICE to eat healthy, ...and I have a CHOICE to change! Joyfully I live these words in truth!!!:patriot:

Perfection is in Each and Every one of Our Seeds Within!!!

Yesterday I went to the MOST AMAZING Celebration @ Agape Spiritual Center last night!...I generally go either with a friend, or by myself....It was STUPENDOUS!!! They had a drum circle of Dancers and Players on Stage and Amazing singers...:cheers2:!! I Felt SOOOOO BLESSED to be there!! ...

The topic was : "When is Enough Enough????! (Everyone laughed and Smiled because everyone knew that they too have had and or been at a point in time where "Enough Was Enough!")

....I could go on & on and talk your ears off here, and mine..haha...BUT...sometimes, things are better left pondered to oneself. So I'll let that one be..:) ...It really touched my heart all the wonderful things that they were doing as a community to outreach to those who are needy and it moved me to tears to hear about the stories of those who were so Grateful and Immersed in Gratitude!...Makes you realize how "worthy and wonderful and divine" we are all in our own Perfection of Ourselves Today!...That's the Truth!! It creates a feeling of Compassion. And all compassion really is, is a deeper understanding of the true lack of understanding. It is soothing to see how wonderful these people showed that Love was always the View, The motive, and the Practice!! :Angel_anim:

....I truly beleive that!!! We are a "Perfection" today!!! Taking it deep within ourselves and our cells, and their knowledge as how to perform their bodily functions in which are intertwined with magnifecence of your working organs!! :beating:!!

....I've noticed, that when I align myself with Gratitude and Love within myself,...all I want to do is Smile @ Everyone, Give them a Warm look because how many times do we walk down the street to find that most people avoid glancing at each other? So many people lack the desire for personal interaction amongst each other, even if it is just a warm glance, or a touching smile!..

....We need that!...Every individual needs Love! We all do!!...I don't care how tough someone may seem, or strong.....Love is Love! Love comes in many forms and can't be recognized sometimes, but if you look outside the window and see a flower blooming in the warm sun...THAT'S LOVE MY FRIENDS!...Nature loves us!!!

...There is So MUCH LOVE all around, that if we realize that the Roses and the Sun is blooming, Today, you will notice, that you too are as perfect as a Flower. Within each of us, down deep into our cells, we have the molecular compisition of GREATNESS!!...The Greatness is something that just needs to be Nurtured and Cultivated to Emanate from our Deepest Being!! :D!

We are PERFECT!!!!!...WE ARE GREAT!!!!!....I know this!!!!!!! That's why I am grateful, because I know we have the Perfection and The composition to be the Greatest Beings Possible!...And by being Great, we realize that the composition of Each & Every one of us ...is Immensly Different & beautiful because of it!!!!

.....So the next time you see a Person who is so beautiful, or so wealthy, or so smart, or so well dressed, or so Happy, so fit, or so Grateful, or So ...anything you want or admire within them...Admire the fact that they have Been Cultivating their Greatness, and Nurturing their Seed Within...and that YOU CAN TOO!!! WE ALL CAN!!! WE ALL HAVE THE CHOICE!!!

.....This in turn makes me love our Earth insanely, and it makes me appreciate our animals...and if so...How Could I really continue to eat them right!?!....That's where I'm at right now! :)!

.....This made me so grateful that I went home last night @ did 90 mins. of Power Yoga! :D!
