MagicLea & Others...

Here you go, hope this helps any of you that may be struggling. There's always a great place to turn, we just have to remember to do it!

Philippians 3
20But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.

2 Samuel 23
5 "Is not my house right with God?
Has he not made with me an everlasting covenant,
arranged and secured in every part?
Will he not bring to fruition my salvation
and grant me my every desire?

John 16
23In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete……33"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

My goodness today has gone fast!! A shame, because there is so much to fit in on a Saturday.
Well this was a very good week for me. 1.2kgs and that is the first time in 12 weeks, so I am pleased.
When I was away, I forgot to mention my absolutely wonderful experience in the plane! I just couldn't believe how easy it was to sit in the seat, and how I could put the tray in front down so easily - and yes! The seatbelt not only didn't need the extender as I expected this time, but I had to tighten it. It all felt so normal!!

For those wondering about how individual our programs are, I don't think there is any doubt that our programs are tailored to our precise blood test result. Sureslim was from someone who got most of the processes right, but couldn't crack the code entirely - so not as precise.

Some questions:
Can everyone eat philidelphia light cream cheese or only a few?

Those of you who love fish, it has been really hard to get the right kinds of white fish where I live ( and I love it!) So was wondering what kinds the people in Singapore are allowed?

I certainly agree about winter! It is a miserable day here (yesterday as well) so I just want to go back interstate until winter is finished!!! I could cope much better with the cold if the sun was shining. I do miss the sun.

Lizzi . . . 98 days to go! … 14 weeks 1 day

We have a huge variety of fishes being sold in Singapore and as far as I know, the basic rule is Salmon, Cod, Mackerel and Sea bass are not allowed. I eat a lot of Thread Fin, Prawns and Calamari. Crabs are allowed and I had an interesting meal of steamed crab once. Tuna and snapper is allowed too!

hi everyone,

I just came back from my mum's op. Its a short op but the tension is wearing me down. To make things worse, my PMS is kicking in!!!! I am craving for FOOD!!! I popped an additional mineral supplement but its not helping yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mumbine, lovely, and just what I needed. Thanks!!!
Lizzi, great that the weight loss is moving a bit faster this week, and I know exactly what you mean by the plane seats. Isn't it so nice to not stand out, and to realise that the seats are not really that small!
Have a great day everyone.
Talk to you all soon.

Joined up today

Hi,

I went to a Cohens info day today and signed up to the program. I'll do blood test Monday and start program next Saturday. I'm quite nervous after many many failed weight loss programs over the past few years. But I've heard good reports from people on this program, so I hope that it will work for me. I've been lurking here for a few weeks, and thought I'd introduce myself since I'm likely to need help once it gets going!

Here's to being thin! It might take a while. I have around 50kg to lose. So, as they say, its not going to happen overnight, but it will happen!

Favourite Recipes

I can't remember who it was, but someone asked us to share our favourite recipe. I have been trying to work out what my favourite one is, but I can't choose only one...so here are my top three:

Garlic & Ginger Prawns served on a bed of Bok Choy
Fresh Green Pawns (allowance)
Shallots, sliced (veggie allowance)
1 clove of garlic - crushed (veggie allowance)
1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger (veggie allowance)
Fresh Corriander (veggie allowance)
Bok Choy (veggie allowance)
Lime juice

Cook prawns with shallots, garlic, ginger and coriander in a hot pan sprayed with a little cooking spray (I use extra virgin olive oil spray). When cooked, sprinkle lime juice over the top. Lightly steam bok choy and place on plate. Pile prawns on top and enjoy! If you want some extra bite, add some chilli powder of flakes to the prawns.

Rib Fillet with Mushroom and Pepper Gravy & Veggies
Rib Fillet steak (allowance)
Mushrooms - I prefer Swiss Browns (veggie allowance)
Onion, sliced thickly (veggie allowance)
Other veggies of choice - I like asparagus and a thick slice of tomato (veggie allowance)
Fresh Parsely, roughly chopped (veggie allowance)
Garlic granules or powder
Freshly ground Pepper
3/4 cup water
2 crispbreads, processed to fine crumbs

Add steak to hot pan sprayed with a little oil and seal on both sides. Cook to desired state. Remove from pan and cover. Add mushrooms and onion to same pan and cook slightly. Add water, crispbreads, garlic, parsely and pepper to taste. Simmer to make a gravy-like sauce. Meanwhile, steam or stirfry other desired veggies. Pour sauce over steak and enjoy with your veggies.

and something for those of you who are experiencing the chill of winter...

Wonderful Winter Warmer
Diced beef (allowance)
Mushrooms, small, halved (veggie allowance)
Onion, left in large chunks (veggie allowance)
Zuchinni and/or cauliflower (veggie allowance)
Bouquet Garni
3 bay leaves
Black peppercorns (I use 6)
Thyme - dried or fresh (part of veggie allowance if fresh)
2 crispbreads - processed into fine crumbs
Approx 1 cup water

Heat saucepan sprayed with a little oil and add beef and onion. Cook until browned. Add water and crispbread and stir. Simmer until thickened. Meanwhile place mushrooms, spices and herbs in a small ovenproof dish. Pour beef and onion mixture over the top. Cover and cook in moderate over for 25 minutes. Add zuchinni and/or cauliflower, recover and cook for a further 5 minutes. Remove bouquet garni, peppercorns and bay leaves. Enjoy!

Well, there you have - my 3 favourite meals. I want to mention a recent discovery of mine also. I was having beef mince the other day, cooked with tomato, onion, mushrooms, spinach and basil, and I had a fantastic thought. I light sprayed 2 of my crispbread with oil, sprinkled some garlic powder on the top of them and then grilled them...the result was a modified sort of garlic bread which tasted unreal! I highly recommend this to anyone who misses their garlic bread.

Keep up the great efforts everyone!

Hey Jody,

Fantastic shots!

I'm FAR bigger than you were, there's not enough money in the world for me to put photos up yet... ;) But I appreciate yours! (Maybe whenever I GET to 120kg... I'll put one up then, remind me!)

I'll put some up of me when I've lost a bit more, I've only been on it 16 days, and am looking forward to another weigh in tomorrow. :D

Lamby... in the words of Yoda... Do, or Do Not, there is no try.

And another: If it is to be, it's up to me.

Nary a truer word were said. You've taken the first step. Whether or not you succeed is up to you.

Something I've been thinking, which I was in the middle of blogging when I came to have a look around here: I love nectarines. LOVE Nectarines. Now, for about 8 months of the year, I get no nectarines :( Why? They're out of season. I don't miss them much, because I know they're out of season. So, for me, for the next # months, EVERYTHING is out of season that's not on the programme. Makes it very easy to stick to it that way. Everything will be back in season soon.

asy :D

PS: Less, thanks for the recipes! Sound interesting.

Here It Comes....Sorry!

Finally I'm better off than when I had my falling of the wagon badly deviation. The GREAT thing about this program is that I know that I WILL eventually get there with it. I feel like it's going to be something I always turn to, being able to get that stubborn weight off if it creeps back. I'll be learning from your mistake RJM, I'll do the refeed each and every time.

I really enjoyed my yoghurt this morning...Other days I've just tolerated it but it was delish.

Fruity Yoghurt Recipe

Blend 1/2 honey dew melon allowance to a puree with two tablets of sugarine.
Mix with yoghurt allowance.
Add 1 kiwi fruit & 1 broken up crispbread (I use wholemeal paradise light)
mix through and have a scrummy brekky.

Curried egg Recipe

I'm sure everyone has done the curried egg thing. I just make it the traditional way with mayo allowance, curry powder, finely chopped onion and mash. I usually serve mine on a couple of celery sticks (from allowance) and the rest on my 2 crisps. A really enjoyable brekky.

Also, maybe when we post a recipe we could use the word 'recipe' in it? Then if we need to do a search we'll be able to find them all with ease.:)

:D L-Jay: You have been a needed source of comfort and support to me, now it's my time to reciprocate. It's in you to do all you need to do, otherwise you wouldn't have that wisdom there to help guide others. I decided, when I got back on track this time, I would offer myself rewards all along the way. Not just at the end of a week, but every few days. This was important because I was finding it really difficult. So...on day three on the wagon I bought a bunch of flowers for myself, day five I bought a yummy mask from my favourite shop LUSH, when I get to Tuesday, I'm going to get my haircut. I found this great motivation, I feel as if i'm showing myself kindness but without the food. I've always rewarded myself with food, but now, I'll just buy little things that don't cost too much, but i enjoy nonetheless. I am also taking one chromium tablet each day. That helps IMMENSELY. I never expected it to be so useful! Within 2 hrs of taking the first one, my intense cravings lessened. Now, i'm in that wonderful place where I have to force myself to have my meals. Hope you're feeling re-inspired.

:) DeDe23: I'm amazed at your success so far! You've done great to overcome the obstacles you've faced and still lost weight. Great job...Hope you're feeling better soon.

 Lizzi: I'm not allowed cream cheese as far as I know. I have been intending to try out ricotta as a substitute though. Might be nice mixed with some herbs.

:) RJM: You're welcome. I know those probably don't suit everyone on the forum, but probably most of us can draw encouragement from them. You've been a fantastic encouragement in all things spiritual, thanks. Glad I could help you too.

;) Heavenlylamb: Good luck on your new program. You've made a great choice. I've been on this program for four weeks now and I have had deviations (tsk, tsk) but I feel like this is the answer for me. I have hope with this! I have now lost just under 8kg in 4 weeks. Exceeding any efforts I have made in the past with other diets. I have REALLY been on the merry go round too. Diet/Binge/Diet/Binge, neverending. I have to say that those occurances are becoming less frequent and I'm feeling extremely liberated these days. I'm also seeking all of my motivation from God, judging by your user maybe you too? The first three days are the worst, prepare and treat yourself kindly to lots of sleep, hot baths and cosy couch reading. (they're my treats anyway, whatever works). Now i'm 'into' it again, i'm not feeling very hungry and my cravings are almost gone completely, that is unless I stand looking at cake displays! Good Luck. Look forward to seeing your newly found freedom appear with every kilo drop.:)

 Less Of Me: You are looking great! {{hugs are in order}}. It must feel amazing to have come so far. Might I add also, that you looked great even carrying the extra weight. Looks like you carry it well! Well done on your success.

That's 'all' for me. Sorry that was so long, it's been a while between individual posts and I really do like to catch up occasionally. Hope everyone's going well. I'm getting bloods tomorrow (yuk), but i'm really excited about the coming month and what I might achieve this time!

Cheers :p

less of me: The pictures are fantastic. You should be so proud of yourself and so pleased with your result so far. What an inspiration! (Mind you, you were attractive in the first one - just much smaller in the second).

asyoz:
I like your thinking about the seasons. I often use that same analogy to think about life - there is a season for everything in life, and you will always move out of a ..... season and into another one - and it can happen so quickly because we never know when we are on the day that will totally change the season of our life. I can see it works well for food! My saying has been: The food is not leaving the planet - it will still be there when I'm ready to return to it.

heavenlylamb: Welcome! It will be a good decision.

rjm: Thanks - and you are right - it is so good not to stand out as being larger than everyone else. Hope things are going the way you want them to in life after?

reb & reensabeens: Ricotta cheese is also good with garlic, paprika, or chili mixed in - or lots of salt and pepper or herbs - great mixed with half mozerella too. Am really interested in how many can have phylly cheese? Thanks for your replys.

fornight: I hope everything is going well with your Mum's operation, I remember that you were pretty concerned. Take care of yourself.

mumbine: Keep your eyes fixed, and the season of 'deprivation' will change - and you will enjoy more of life as a healthy person.

L-Jay: and anyone else who is interested ... now about this course that I did ...
It was called Nectar. What was good about it was that it taught me not to be afraid of food. As I said, I lost no weight, but the lessons were priceless. Our assignment for week 1 was to pick 3 foods that we absolutely loved but thought we shouldn't be eating - I think I chose some form of chocolate, and a biscuit, and a potato chip. Now the task was to work our how much we could eat of each in a total binch - let's say you could eat as much as you likedof any of those foods, how much would it be? Multiply that amount by 3 ( so it would be virtually impossible to get to the end of the supply because there was always a significant amount left) and then go buy those amounts of each food. You place them in the front of the cupboard and give yourself permission to eat as much as you like of those and any other food you feel like!!

It was based on control theory, and also the law of supply and demand. The more you can have the less you want it. Also it was to correct the assumption that we only ever want the things that are bad for us. Once the restrictions are lifted and you give yourself permission to choose what ever you want, you actually begin to decide on wanting a balance - it taught me to trust that I also wanted good foods!

We went on to learn to recognize the feeling of hunger in the stomach - eating because you physically feel hunger rather than because convention or mealtime or habit tells you to eat. Once you leave the gap long enough to feel hunger in the stomach, you begin to experiment with just how much food you have to eat ( or how little food!) to stop that hunger. So we experimented with a few bites of something rather than large portions. The idea was to recognize what your body needs to satisfy physical hunger, and satisfy it. Then to recognize the other forms of hunger - and to choose to feed or not feed the emotional hunger. We learned strategies for making a whole range of choices other than eating.

The course went for 10 weeks, and the result is that I now make choices - each eating experience each day is a choice. You stop feeding yourself negative information like: I shouldn't have .. or I know I'm not supposed to eat this but ... It takes away the guilt, the compulsion and the lack of control. You begin to choose and to own your choices whether you lose weight or not. SO you learn a lot about normalizing the process of eating. And because you are not operating from a feeling of deprivation, you are free to choose! You regain control.

While this course didn't allow me to lose weight, it took me off the diet merry-go-round of guilt and deprivation - so this diet is a choice not a deprivation. Sure you still miss foods, but you are free to eat if you don't want to stay on it. I CHOOSE to stay on it which is a different mindset.

The other benefit is that you are free to be around whatever foods you want. Since you are always in control and you are not depriving yourself, it doesn't matter what others around you are choosing to eat - you are making your choices too and they are just as valid - it gives you a totally different mindset.

Well that is the short version of the course, and there was a book called ' Diet No More". I wouldn't have changed the course for anything, and I really noticed the guilt and the language of family and friends who are so tied up by these guilts and diet pressures. Another task was to spend time with people who didn't have a weight problem and to observe their thinking and habits and to learn their processes. That is also a good thing to do.

Hope you find this interesting.

Thank you all!

Good morning everyone! First let me say thank you to all of you for your kind words, praise and encouragement regarding the photos. And yes; I am very proud of what I have accomplished so far :D (patting myself on the back). As for those of you who have said I looked good even in the before photo - well you didn't expect me to pick out a 'Bad' one to post did you? This is probably THE ONLY photo of me at that weight that I would consider showing to anyone. I am an accomplished at avoiding photos. Whenever a camera surfaces, I can be often witnessed running off to the toilet or saying something like "Has anyone seen Joelle ?(my daughter)" as I shoot off to look for her, or "Coffee anyone?" I'm sure that I'm not the only one who used to do/does this.
By the way, you are right, I am lucky in that I do seem to carry extra weight well...so much so that friends find it hard to believe that I was 120kg when I started Cohen's. Most of my weight is on my thighs (which have been cruelly compared to bridge pylons), butt and hips. This is an advantage as I can cover all that up with a floor length skirt. It is also great for bellydancing...I can wear the same costume as everyone else and not feel to 'out there'.

Questions on CHEESE
lizzi Was it you asking about philly cheese? I can't have it and I am soooooooooooooo jealous of any that can. I LOVE PHILLY CHEESE! And it would taste 100% better than ricotta in a cappucinno cheesecake. Not that I'm complaining - at least I can have cheesecake without deviating if I want it.
Also someone asked about how many times a week we eat cheese. I have never had it more than 3 times a week and I would say on average I have it once a week.

Hope you all have a fantastic day!

Mindset

Hi everyone,

I don't often post on the forum but regularly read all the posts.

Lizzi some of what you have just described about the course, is in a nutshell how my thinking has changed. Instead of me thinking about all the food I am deprived of, I am of the mindset that I have made a choice to do this (and not to deviate etc) so that I will be slim by summer. Strangely enough I don't know why or how my mind set has changed, but it has. Someone else mentioned some time back that moving away from a negative was stronger than moving towards a positive, but in my experience moving towards the positive has motivated me much more.

I have been on the program nine weeks now and this is the most focused and committed I have ever been to any diet/plan, even though I am one of the slower losers (eg Lost 6.9kgs first month & 4.78kgs second month).

Lizzi I follow your progress with particular interest, because you are one of the slower losers and yet your commitment and determination has not faulted. When I felt disappointed after my eight week way in, I thought of you and your determination and how over time the kgs add up and it stopped me feeling sorry for myself. So thankyou for sharing your journey, you are an inspiration to me and no doubt many others.

To everyone else, thankyou for also sharing your experiences and recipes.

Life is getting better

HI to all and hope the weather is being kind. I am on the mend with the sore throat and looks like i may not need to scuttle off to the dr- cant have infection when i have the shoulder done on the 31st.

For all struggling with cheese, i have begun to actually like mozarella cheese! Cant stomach the rest tho. I have been having the cheese, tomato on crisp bread grilled for my last meal- not too much but not nuthing. I top the tomato with pepper and dash of salt (only salt i have) before i put cheese on. I think perserverance is the key. Took me a wk but im all gd with it now.

:) Less of Me: Thanks for those receipes and i will be trying them this wk. I have had the same thing pretty much and i was getting extremely bored with it. I cld make it for my mum who comes to stay in a few wks. Just give a bit extra of what i cant. Wow. At last something i will enjoy im sure.

:p Mumbine: Thanks for ur kind words. i have had long history of leg injuries going back since i was 12- netbal and family trait. I can use it as an excuse to a certain point but if hadnt lived on coke for many years i prob wldnt be in the condition i am! Car crashes x3 and a work injury doesnt help but at least i get to choose what i do now and put into my body. I can either take the initiative to stop the process of obesity now or i cld keep going the way i was- i chose the right path and reaping many rewards !!!!!! Im glad ur getting on with it also and getting the rewards however big or small.

I have had 1.5lt water so far (2pm) and just about to have lunch so another one will be a gd thing. Cert helping my throat. I got a big bottle and this is making it easier. Not having to get up and refil all teh time. Never ending. Gunna ask landord if he can put in a Pure Tap system- filtered water from extra tap put into sink. City water is yuk and my small filter jug just isnt cutting.

Hope havent missed anyone - hi to new members . U will have doubts but after a wk or so u will c it is a gr8 program and u will benefit immensly.

Dee

Sorry. The foto on my above reply is me at starting weight of 92.82kg. Its done in a wall to floor wardrobe builtin mirror. Not too gr8 but really the only one that worked without the flash taking up the foto. Not really fan of pictures so ur lucky i got one! Wldnt have dared to get another person to take it!!!!!

Hi everyone,
Haven posted for a long time coz was sick with sinus infection which got me very drowsy and not much in the mood. Have been reading everyday though and it seem like most of you are doing great. All of a sudden there is like so many singaporeans in here which is so great. Really look forward to organising an outing of some sort.

I dunno what happened this week but the loss has been great(had lost 3kg in one week), dunno whether is it coz of the deviation last week becoz I haven't lost so much in a week apart from the first week that I started the program. Hmm......

Anyway, had a gathering with my old housemates last weekend and have told them I was on this diet. They were really supportive and I think I am ready to tell other friends about it =).

less of me : your photos look great and we can really see the loss, looking forward to more photos as the weight kept coming off.
