Cravings

Hi All,

I have been doing great, lost 3.7kg in the last 3 days. I know it's pretty normal to start with that much loss but it's still great to watch the scales go down.

I'm beginning to have cravings again. Banana Loaf! smothered with butter of course. Does anyone have any 'friendly' recipes that taste scrumptious of the desserty kind? I made a cheescake thismorning that was quite yummy. Have to tweak the recipe a little though, make it more sweet. How do others get through the craving and convince yourselves that it's really not what you need? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I was thinking if i feel i MUST have something, maybe a low carb product? Any ideas?

Thanks.

Me Again :)

I just took a look at the before/after pics, had a mandarin & couple of glasses of water. Not doing too badly now. I'll live.:D

JOYSEY: Good to see you back~! Its nice to see that those girls who started this thread are doing well, a big morale boaster.

lizzi : Congrats in hitting the 62s~! Bet you are going to be one of those "eye candy" on the beach when summer arrive.

fornight : Good luck in your hunt, think it should be available in most outlet(since I found it in one of the smaller branch). About those people asking for advice, if it get too extreme, just ask them to call the consultant for a chat.

Reload72 : Yah, had heard about this restaurant from Peter. He said that the Cohen clinic actually organise monthly dinner as a get-together for their clients, so maybe you can check with him when is the next one going to be? About the pre-pack paste ingredients, I check my book again and yes, lime is really not on it(oh shit, does tat count as a deviation?) I think fornight you better check with the consultant and maybe subsitute the lime for lemon if it is not allowed.

*sunshine* : Good to hear that you are feeling better. Wow, a size 18-20 down to a size 12, that should get you motivated.

Am off to get a hair-cut today, hope you gals have a good cohen day~!

Fornight, that is such a good idea. Sounds like the Singapore clinics are really on the ball!
Mumbine, it will get easier. This horrible wet rainy weather (in Sydney) doesn't help much. What is the weather like where you are? Remember that the first week or 2 are really the hardest, but after my first month on this, I had almost reached my first 10kg "mini Goal". The way you're going, you will exceed this!
Tasm82, excellent weight loss. Good to hear that healthy is what you are wanting. Anything different would be nice, wouldn't it.
Momiji, enjoy the hair cut. I don't think a tiny bit of lime would make that much difference. Did you know that if you squeeze the juice out of a lemon, you have to count it as 1 piece of your days fruit (from allowance)
I am a bit nervous. Oldest child has been vomiting since Monday night and is just starting to recover, and youngest child has just started. I hope I don't get it before tomorrow's interview. Not a good look I'm sure.
Have a great night everyone. Talk to you all tomorrow.

Goodluck

:)

rjm - goodluck at your 2nd interview tomorrow. i'm sure you won't need it. just be thinking positive thoughts and all shall come to you...

Tam

Again....

I'm having cravings again. I was just wondering how everyone esle went on their first week. Did you deviate and what did you manage to get away with?

My cravings are so bad at the moment i've decided to make myself some diet jelly. There's no way i'm going to last this thing if i don't do something like it, other wise i'll end up off the band wagon all the way.

Be interested to hear about everyone elses first experiences.

Thanks.

Hi there!

Just wanted to say hello to you lovely ladies again, and to say congrats on doing so well on your Cohen's journey!

I have certainly faced some challenges post-Cohens, I have been away on holidays to Morocco and France, where sticking to the one meal of carbs a day was impossible!!

I put on a few kilos each time, but had lost it again within days of returning home and staying off the carbs for a few days.

This program is amazing, it makes it much easier to recalibrate, losing the weight is easier than I thought possible.

It is a really powerful tool, I did not realise how powerful until I had to use it.

I have to live life now, and know that there will be times when I put on weight, but now I have to act immediately and I know what to do. It is almost like a thermostat readjusting to the right temperature. If I overindulge, I just need to cut back for a few days, not just keep on indulging!!

I guess part of me did not think about the fact that I would put on weight again, but what is different now is how I handle it!

It has also made me realise how sensitive I am to carbs, a few days of too many and I feel like crap and retain water like a sponge! It really makes me put weight on just like that!

I am trying to get into a routine with my eating, have not really had a chance as I went on hols straight after refeed! But confident that I will establish a routine.

Thinking of the following:

Breakfast: Either fruit and yogurt or muesli and yogurt with soy milk and black coffee

Lunch: Some kind of salad with protein, fruit

Snack: Macadamia nuts or a piece of cheese on Ryvita or fruit and yogurt

Dinner: Fish, Chicken or Lamb with vegies
Dessert: More fruit...

Might switch around my one carb meal depending on what I am doing, and need to experiment with how many treats I can eat without gaining!

Anyway, hope your week continues to go well, and keep on Cohening. It will be so worth it.

Kathy

Well not much to report here today. Another day of non-deviation. Weight up 1/2 a kilo. Not concerned. Period stuff.
Good to hear how you're getting on Kathy. Its good to have the tools and the mental attitude to deal with the after-Cohens experience. Cant wait until I'm there!!!

Mumbine For me, the more I deviated, the longer it took to get past the cravings, and feel satisfied doing this. We are all different, but it really only took me a matter of a few days to settle into the routine and not want to eat anything else. I remember the very very first week. I said to my husband, I cant live on this tiny amount for tea, its starvation. I was ready to go into deep depression lol. But in a matter of around 2 weeks it improved dramatically. I started on a Monday, and by the Friday, the headaches had gone and I was feeling like there was light at the end of the tunnel. After a few weeks, I had no desire to deviate. There is not easy way I know of except to bite the bullet and keep in mind the results will be obvious very quickly. You are doing well. Look what you've accomplished already. The more often you deviate the longer it will take. And I wouldnt wish that on anybody. I lost 40kgs in 5 months. Weight watchers said it would take well over a year to do that. Probably closer to 2 years. Please stick to this 100%. I promise you if you do, you will look back on this first week and it will be a distant memory. Your energy levels, sleep patterns, moods, every thing will improve more than you can possibly imagine. I wish there was something like a will-power pill I could give you, because I just want you to know how good you will feel, and then it would be easy for you to stick to. Please please please hang in there for yourself. You wont look back. When you think about that banana loaf, imagine it, butter and all, stuck to your butt, thighs, legs, stomach, wherever it would show up 1st. Imagine walking around with it stuck there for everybody to see. You so dont need it. It cant do for you what cohens food can. It will make you feel good while you have it in your mouth, but the minute its gone you have the familiar old feeling of the old enemy guilt to deal with. It takes a moment to deviate, and a lifetime to learn how to deal with all the emotions that stem from deviating. Who needs it? Not us strong women. We are a force to be reckoned with. No bit of food is going to defeat us.
rjm thinking of you for tomorrow and hoping for good things.

rjm - good luck for tomorrow. My thoughts are with you.

Does anybody have any views on exercise during the program? Prior to Cohen's I went to the gym every day just to do low impact aerobics i.e. walking, rowing machine and stepper but nothing too excessive and some weights on alternative days. I have a severe case of sciatica and need to be mobile. I know that there is a view that if we were going to the gym beforehand we can continue but not to start gym work at the time of the program.

Anyway, owing to a little illness prior to Cohen's, I had stopped the gym for 5 weeks and am now desperate to get back. Is the 5 week absence considered as not doing gym work before Cohen's or should I still continue as I did previously. My sciatica is playing up and the aerobics and weights are a great help. I will also send this to Cohen's but if anybody out there has any experience here, that would be great.

Mumbine: I am in my third week. The first three days were difficult but I now have a routine (which is not my natural state) where I spread my crispbreads(keeping the two and half hour rule) and fruit (apples cut into pieces) across the five hours between meals and drink water whenever I feel like eating something. I have also found tea to be useful, at least it has a taste. My consultant made a big point of the idea that one mistake equalls one week more on the programme, so as I walk past the carbs and sweets, I ask myself -21 meals of cohen or that french coffee eclair. The choice for me becomes obvious 21 meals of effort is not worth giving up for thirty seconds of satisfaction. Giving into anything and everything whenever I wanted has brought me too 133kg- so I drink my water stay focussed on my goal and choose not the be controlled by cravings. No eclair can give me the pleasure that I get from seeing those numbers get smaller on the scales. 8.5kg lost to date. Good luck

Deviations

Its pretty obvious from my no deviation scoreboard that I am not the best person to talk about not deviating Mumbine but.... I absolutely agree with LJay and BeeBee. It is not worth the angst of doing. I started out strong and then lost momentum and am only just dealing with it all again now but I love the image of buttered banana cake stuck to your tummy or thighs or wherever and also think the idea of 21 Cohen's meals or 1 snack is very graphic and motivating too. I agree with Ljay, it really isn't worth it and it IS worth it to stick to it. You will be so proud and excited when you lose even more weight. You must have wanted it pretty badly to pay all this money, don't let it beat you. You'll just have to go through it again and again and again. It really is best to stick to it 100% without jellies or anything not on your plan. Talk to your consultant honestly and see what she/he says, perhaps they have some helpful suggestions. Its probably a pain to hear us saying "stick to it" when you might like us to say " go on.. it won't hurt" but it will. Even if it doesn't show on the scales it will make you want to keep deviating because it perpetuates the cravings and it may affect your ability to keep the weight off later on . Good luck.

As you can all see by my ticker, I'm up yet another 1/2kg. However, I'm still 1/2 a kg down for the week.
So there is always a positive side.

Ladies, if you get nothing out of this post, at least think about this: If I werent on Cohens, that would be extra weight on top of where I started. So I'm still better off (in the black rather than the red so to speak).

If this happens to any of you - your weight goes up, that is the time to draw on all the will power, support etc you can. This program works. They never promised the scales wouldnt go up sometimes, they promised fast results and permanent weightloss. And they deliver. So, dont let the scales determine your mood. Use how you look, feel, how your clothes fit, positive comments of others to guide you. Life is too short to feel sorry for ourselves. We have been given a unique opportunity. Grasp it with both hands and run with it. That attitude my friends will see us all to the end of a successful positive life/attitude changing journey. There is more to life than numbers on the scales. We have rich fulfilling family lives, dear friends who love us, the support here from people who we've never met, and a beautiful earth, with beautiful things to enjoy. Its the simple things that matter in this life. This program only adds to the happiness we can choose to experience everyday. The simple things are far more meaningful than the number which greets you on the scales (except of course if it goes down ha ha):)

Everybody, have a wonderful happy positive day. x

Thanks Again...

Thank you all so much for your encouragement. I did in fact deviate :( but, i didn't binge which is a big a achievement for me. I feel i've definitely won that battle even though i had a snack. All i had was one cracker with a scrape of peanut butter on it. Not too bad considering what i really wanted. On the other hand, the scales definitely showed, I only lost 100g thismorning, which is fine, it's still going down, but it just shows that deviations do count. In the big scheme of things, that snack wouldn't have mattered if you count calories, but it just proves that this program is very accurate and scientific. It's comforting to know that all that research has gone into it. Anyway, back on track today...i'm already feeling a difference in my clothes, mainly because i'm not holding water. It's all good. Thanks again for your encouragement, every little bit helps.

RJM: The mornings down here tend to start out sunny and end up rainy! Could have something to do with why i end up craving in the later part of the day...good luck today, hope everything goes well....

mumbine its true what you said. Any change in our behaviour towards food is definately something to be proud of. Its always a fantastic thing when its something we've done for a long time. Well Done. There is always a positive to focus on. Much more productive than looking at what we arent doing.

L-Jay; mumbine; the old me All your posts are GREAT! I think I am going to bookmark them so that I can read them whenever I have cravings! I am coming to an end of my 2 weeks and luckily due to my workload in the office, it does not give me time to crave for anything yet.

I am proud of myself for drowning myself with at least 3 litres in the office each day. Even my colleagues are amazed with the volume I drink. It does pay off and they commented that how my skin looks so glowy and radiant. Initially my colleagues are worried that I might get too weak when I am on the program but now they think otherwise. In fact, one of them might be joining Cohen soon!!!

I had a bit of headache in the office yesterday and I am very sure it was not from work. I thought maybe it was due to PMS so I dunk down more water than usual, hoping it will help to detox and the pain will go away. In the end, I was soooooo tired and went to bed at 7.30pm at home. Now to think back, it must be my PMS.

Is there anything we should look out when having periods in Cohen? I think my first menses on Cohen is coming today. I am feeling a bit bloated in the stomach area. For the past weeks, my stomach don't roar at all when I am eating Cohen meals but today, it seems to be making a lot of noise (not very loud though). Does anyone face the same problems?

Good morning everyone,

rjm hope the your 2nd interview goes well today

Well I have just received my second program in the mail today. I first did this program back in 2002 but I never got my reefed as I thought I didn’t need it as I could manage myself boy how wrong I was as the weight slowly but surly crept back on. Well I decided to rejoin after reading L-jay post saying the reefed is the most important part of the program for maintain your weight .as I don’t have mine I thought why not rejoin. So sat I went along and had my blood test and boy oh boy do I have the biggest bruise on my arm. Well I have just had a quick look at my new program and I must say it’s set out better than before and a few things have changed like I can only have 5 crackers now and only 2 fruit where before I could have 8 and 3 fruit and my grams have changed a little and I have 1 less choice in group 1 and 2. My blood test showed that my sugar & potassium and also my lhd is high. As I am going away next Friday for a week I am not going to start my new program till the 10th of July :D :D
I must say the cost of the program has gone up heaps from when i 1st joined a well
lLizzi thanks for your help
has anyone got some before or after or during photos that they would like to share whis all of us this would be great

Hi everyone,
Have just arrived back from the interview, and I'm not sure how I went. I think I did just fine on the accounting questions and answered these without any problems, but stumbled on the biblical questions and couldn't answer all of these so I'm not sure what they will do. They said they will ring this afternoon to let me know how I went.
Still no movement on the scales this morning, so I have taken drastic measures....NO SALT, not even a tiny sprinkle. I have also stopped taking my echinacea and the other vitamins that I hadn't checked and I'm really hoping that this will help. I am sure I am still losing as the trousers I bought for last weeks interview are much looser this week.
Mumbine, good to hear that you didn't have a full blown binge. Well Done. I kept a list of all the things that I had had a really bad craving for, so I could eat it once I finished the program. It seemed to help get over the cravings a little bit as it reminded me that I would again be able to eat these things, and the better I stuck to the program, the sooner I would be able to eat them again. When I finished, I only ate a few of the things on my list as I really didn't enjoy them that much.
Miss Kath , good to hear from you. My "Life After" plan says that you should never have carbs for breakfast. Does yours let you have carbs for breakfast? While I was off and doing well, I would have a protein shake (made with soy milk) and a soy yoghurt for breakfat every day, and if you feel like a treat, Woolies now sell "Atkins" bars,no carb chocolate etc. Good for not upsetting the blood sugars.
Jasmine, when I did the program last time, I got half way through and really felt that I needed to do something so I joined "Curves" gym. I didn't have any problems with extra hunger and the first week the weight slowed down a little (I think due to maybe building a little muscle), but after that it stayed the same (about 2kg per week). The consultants seem to worry about you getting extra hungry and breaking, so you need to decide if you think you'll get hungry, or just give it a try and see how you go.
L-Jay, bummer about being up another 1/2kg. I'm sure it will be gone again before you know it.
beebee, I agree, I always space my food throughout the day (at 2.5 hour intervals) so I never have too long to wait till the next thing, and then after I have my dinner I have my "dessert" of my 5 pieces of chewing gum and then I drink my whole litre of diet sprite. I then feel quite bloated and it keeps me satisfied till bed time. Once I go to bed, I know that I can eat breakfast as soon as I wake up again. You're having excellent weight loss. Keep up the good work!!
fornight, I think that is one of the great things about this. Your skin glows, and I think people notice that even before they start to notice the weight loss. People were always telling me how well I looked. I think the water flushes all the rubbish out of your system.
the old me, excellent advise. What a good way to look at it. 1 treat or 21 Cohens meals. I know which I would choose. Your doing great, those "days without deviation" are ticking along nicely.
reb, I have before and after photos, but I don't know how to post them. I'll see if my hubby will give me a hand and if I can I'll post them. You must be a bit disappointes to lose 3 of your crackers, but I totally agree, the re-feed is THE most important part of this program.
Thanks so much to you all for your good wishes re:the interview. All I can do now is wait, but I'm not feeling too positive any more. Will let you know as soon as I hear something.
Have a great day everyone.
Talk to you all soon.

Hi Cohen Buddies!

Sorry everyone for not posting lately, but boy oh boy have I been feeling so yucky! I was logging in last night to post and I felt like throwing up. I haven't felt like this lately...I know I have a tendency to feel a little nausea when I don't have enough sleep...Anyways, I am better now.

So, I had a digital scale that was a hand me down that I was using since I started this program. MY mum was convinced that there was something wrong with it. Her reasoning was that it makes her weigh more than HER old school Analogue scale. I chuckled at the thought that one scale makes you weigh more than another. So, I kindly obliged and took a trip to the local Myer store where they have 40% off scales and bought a NEW Digital scale!

So, this morning I thought I would check out this swanky new scale and guess what??? I weighed less! Yep! My mother was right - the old one was a dodgy one....

RJM don't freak out too much about the biblical questions. I hope it all works out for you. I have my fingers crossed.

Gosh, when do you guys think AUS will get up to date with the whole Cohen's restaurant? Perhaps we can all start our own, considering we are all sharing so many wonderful recipes!
To everyone else...Have a nice night!
