Fatgrlslim- That's great that you don't weigh very often. I'm sure you're in for excellent news! A very big welcome to the forum, lots of hugs & kisses & support from me, Cate.

hello everyone, I just want to say that this forum is really helpful...I just took my blood test today..and i cant wait to start the program.. I was a bit skeptical about doing the US version because it would strictly be web based...but I'm happy to see the system of support you all provide for eachother and I cant wait to be a part of it

Hi everyone,I'm thinking about trying Cohen's

Hey everybody!
I am thinking of trying Cohens I have seeing the results on numerous threads and am very impressed with all of your hard work.I was wondering if any one has an estimate of how much they are losing weekly?I saw one person who was losing 3 pounds or so a week which seems consistent with most any other plans which are also cheaper.I currently use Weight Watchers since I am breastfeeding, and lose about 2 pounds a week but am not real impressed with that amount.I know I have to wean my son before starting Cohens and I am working on that currently and hope it is complete early to mid march.I am also planning a month long Vacation back to the US in mid July so I don't know If March to July is enough time to lose around 30K should I wait untill after?I will be staying in hotels and eating out mostly I won't be able to prepare much for myself.Anyways I kow that was a lot any info anyone could provide would be great-Thanks

Hi CaGirl, I lost 36kgs in 28 weeks. First 4 weeks I lost 10kg, then 4 or 5kg every 4weeks after that. I'm 55yrs old. I just love Cohen's & can honestly say it's changed my life for the better! It's very strict but clear-cut & it works if you follow it 100%.
Cheers, Cate

Hello and welcome lovelydove and CaGirlinOZland,

Lovelydove- congrats on starting the journey to the new and slimmer you... This is not the easiest path to travel and patience is needed.. all good things come to those who wait.. and those who put in the effort... Cohens is a great progam that helps us in so many ways and the forum is a wonderful life line...Look forward to reading your future posts... Tell us about yourself and what your goals are in those first few hard days the forum can be a good distraction... Take care and post soon...

CaGirlinOZland - Okay exact averages are a variable, but cohens give you a goal of 17 kg by 12 weeks sometimes you have a greater loss but 17kg is the average for the 12 week period.. I would contact the clinic you plan on going through and seek their advice regarding how your month deviation will affect your overall program.. But i think you should be safe, you probably wont be finished but as long as you are prepared to jump straight back on the wagon when you get home and recommit you should do well...That will be hard recommitting to cohens... You should be able to drop a majority of your weight by july and feel heaps better about yourself and enjoy your trip...My personal average is:
inc the weight my old program 5.03 kg p/m..
excluding the 2 mths on my old program, 6.2kg p/m.. regardless its still great results..

Anyway i wish you well and hope to hear from you soon...

Good luck ladies and i hope my post has been of some help..

TTFN

Thanks Fifty2drop and cate.cate how long have you kept the wieght off ?Do you find it still to be a struggle,do you eat a somewhat normal diet now?

I kept the weight off for over a year & then old habits crept back in. I ate way too much sugary stuff over Christmas & pigged out on cherries (fruit sugar plus!), went back to eating Cohens food (which is 'normal' healthy eating ) & have lost it again. If you follow their maintenance guidelines you should never put weight back on again. It's our brains we have to work on the most! xo Cate

Hi everyone :) I am new to this forum and I hope some of you can help me....

A year ago I was diagnosed with PCOS (although i've had the symptoms MUCH longer). The weight came on pretty quickly, much to my distress.

I am on the pill Yasmin and I chose to take Metformin which I am still currently on (1500mg a day). Until I started Metformin I could not lose ANYTHING! My weight continued to rise despite exercising rigorously and generally eating well. Metformin saw me lose a few kilos but I don't want to be taking pills all my life to 'mask' a problem that will probably only rear its ugly head later in life (I'm 23).

I am aware that diabetics are not able to do the Cohen's program but I was wondering if I would be able to still do it, especially since it was originally designed for women who have infertility problems. I didn't actually have to go on Metformin, my doc left it up to me. I am not a diabetic, but PCOS does cause your body to produce more insulin then it needs. If I was required to go off Metformin a week or so before the initial blood tests this would be fine by me! I am just hoping that I am eligable to do the program at all, as I have exhausted every other avenue...

If anyone knows or has been in a similar situation I would love to hear from you!

Thanks :)

Hayley, I do know of people with PCOS who have done the program, but I think it's best you ring a clinic & talk to them about it or email them. Cheers, Cate

Hi Cate,

I talked to the new clinic that has just opened in New Zealand and they said its fine for me to do as long as I am off metformin a week prior to the blood tests. I am waiting for my stuff in the mail. Hopefully it will be do-able long distance.

Oh thats great to hear you know of people with pcos who have tried it - do you happen to know some of the outcomes? Nothing has worked for me at all! I am not a fan of fad diets and the like but the fact that this is all about regulating hormones is appealing to me.

Despite of all my efforts and knowledge about the health and fitness industry NOTHING has taken the weight off, so i'm intrigued to know if this will.

Thanks x

Question

Hi ,

I have a question. Is cohen's diet base on low carb protein sparing?

Could anyone advise?

cheers,
Rene

I don't know if this helps or not but I went to an informational meeting today and the consultant said it was about 40% protein and about 60% other.Anyone can correct me if that is backwards but I'm pretty sure because I was thinking it was different than the 60/20/20 that others have recomended .

milk

Hi everyone -

Can anyone tell me if they had milk in their coffee in the mornings? Just want to know if it will make the whole diet bomb out as they are very strict about deviating from the programme.

Thanks and great site - this has helped me get back on Cohens and not go for a gastric balloon or something else more serious. I can do it if you can all do it too!!!

No milk in coffee!!!!!!

Very important to follow your program to the letter.. This will certainly screw up your program.. Milk is classed as a protien.... sorry need to leave it short and sweet.. You have chosen wisely, a better option i think then banding... Good luck...

Good luck
Chelle

NO MILK for ever?!

Hey, I've got a question...does it mean that once on Cohen, I can't have milk forever? Oh gawd! I do crave for my good tea with milk every day! I used to have like up to 3 cups a day...if you've tasted those found in Singapore, you know what I'm talking about. :(

FlaMie, It's only while on the weight-loss part of the program. Then you do re-feed & food is reintroduced, including milk. Relax..... It will all be still there at the end, cheers, Cate.

Hi Hayley23

I had the EXACT same problem as you! I am 24 years old with PCOS and was on Metformin for around a couple of years. I started cohens and the Metformin was making me feel really sick throughout the day so I wasn't sure what to do.

I ended up going of cohen's from my doctors advice then I stopped taking Metformin all together and have just started my ultra new cohen's program now!

The thought of having to take that nasty drug my whole life was horrible and as cohen's balances your hormones and is SUPER good for PCOS you can actually live a normal PCOS free life after completing the program.

By the way when I did cohens the very first time I lost 13 kg in the first month with PCOS and without Metformin. So the program works a treat!

Sorry I haven't had time to read your other posts yet and if you have an answer but I would really recommend the program to you.

I went searching for recipes tonight as felt like a sweet found cheese cake receipe so will have to work out how we can fit them into our plan.

Most people have some really motivating stories - great work everyone.
