So I'm returning to the forum. The last time I was on here was September of 2007. Since then I have gained almost 30 lbs. Im rejoining because I think I need the support and motivation that this website gives. And to gain helpful tips and advice to help me along. And a good swift kick in the butt when I feel like giving up lol.

So last year I had tried the Jenny Craig diet. It was helpful and was working but the amout of money I had to keep paying for food was too much and I had to quit. Which I really didnt want to. So i tried to keep along the lines of it and keep my portions under control but lost that battle not too long after that. Thats about the only diet I have tried since then.

So my overal goal here is to lose weight and start feeling healthy again. With this weight gain has come mental and physical stress. I feel tired all the time, my immune system sucks, I sleep more than I should, and I don't move around enough. I dont exactly have an actual time period as to what I want to lost in how long. Im not sure that I should because I get very discouraged when I dont meet the goal and beat myself up over it.

So i realise that first off I need to get my eating in check. Eating more healthy and portion control which I really struggle with. But to kick start my diet I am going to go back on Herbalife. Something which I had used many years ago that I lost weight with before. Also I have a wii with wii fit, ea sports trainer, and the jenny mccarthy trainer. I also would like to hit the gym more often but I will see how this goes with my day to day schedule. I think I am going to start out slow so I dont injure myself like I did 2 weeks ago heh :S My friend gave me the 10 minute trainer dvds to use but I think I'm going to wait a bit before I venture into boot camp.

So this is the start of my journal ...

Exercising in groups would really help you achieve your goal. You may start with a friend or a partner who wants to have the same goal of wanting to lose weight as you do. That should be quite fun to be doing and sharing the same goal with someone you're already comfortable with.

Hey there:)

I am also somewhat new to the forum and am on day five of my healthier way of life. I agree about the setting up a goal and the fear of being discouraged. What I decided to do was have my main goals to become healthy again and fit back into my size 7 pants again. I don't really have a time line, but if I can lose 2 pounds a week in about three months I will be very close to my goal, at that point I am sure my weight loss with slow down and if I can keep going at a pace of 1 pound per week I know I can reach my goal by the end of the year :)

I have faith that you can do this and become the healthier woman you want to be. If you need any support feel free to message me!

Good luck :)

Hey you! Glad to see you back on here :)

The weight loss journey is a long and hard one, but one that can be achieved!

If there's anything that I've learned from my mistakes I've made in the past (which you know what they are) is to never give up. We both gained weight back because we gave up, so this time around we cannot give up. Second, we will make mistakes, it's only human. The thing I'm doing differently this time is if I make a mistake (have a bad eating meal/day) I don't get depressed about it and beat myself up about it anymore. Before I'd get so upset that I would lose track of my goals and give up for a week, a month, a few months! This time, if I make a mistake I think completely differently. Sure I still feel bad but instead of giving up, I think to myself, well now I have to make sure I exercise today and eat great tomorrow! It's a huge mind setting change and it really helps!

I think it's great that you're starting off and I hope you'll keep posting because the support from here is awesome!

PS - Your ticker is cute!

Ohhh, and I'm part of a Biggest Loser challenge on here and we're letting new people join the challenge since other have dropped out. It's a great motivator. You just post your weight every Tuesday and MissJellyBelly calculated the % of weight loss and how much your team has lost, like on the show! It's pretty fun :)

If you are interested, just go to the main page and find the section Diet and Motivation (same sections as the journals) then go to Club Challenges and you'll see the Biggest Loser challenge adding more teams thread. Then just post in there that you want to join :)

It's just an idea! I find the challenges really helpful to keep motivated. I join as many as I can, lol.

Excercising in groups is a great idea, unfortunately for me nobody I know out here is interested in excercising with me. My boyfriend mentioned me going to the gym with him but i'm kind of embarassed to do so because his fitness level is way way higher than mine. Im thinking maybe I should try doing some classes at my gym maybe once a week just to get into a group thing.

With the goal thing yeah I think im going to just see how it goes in the next few weeks and go from there. See how my progress is and go from there so I know what goals are realistic for me and what is not. Thanks for your support Shawnna :)

Thanks about my ticker Risty haha its a turtle for the sloooooow going hehe :) I think I want to join that challenge I think it would be a fun way to get on track. Something to work towards since I dont have a goal lol :D

A short term goal I mean. I definately have a long term goal of weight to lose. Just not a deadline yet :S

I'm glad you're thinking about joining the biggest loser challenge! Everyone is at different weights and fitness levels in the group. I think it's a great motivator especially if you have a bad week and gain a pound, don't lose a pound or maybe even just lose a half a pound... you just post your progress for that week and everyone is very supportive no matter what it is!

I also think it's a great idea to do the group classes at the gym. A really fun one, if your gym has it (more and more gyms are getting it now due to its popularity) is zumba. And zumba is a latin dance aerobic workout thing! It's soooo fun, everyone is in the same position (as in not knowing what they're doing) but everyone is having a blast doing it. It's a great workout and it's so fun at the same time. I know how you love to dance too! So check if your gym does offer that.

I think for short term goals, it's really hard to say how long it'll take someone to lose weight. Healthy weight loss is around 1-2 pounds per week. I was aiming for 2 lbs per week, but my body is only doing 1 lb per week (if that!) lol. So my new goal is 1 lb per week, 2 lbs if possible! So you could always make it a goal to lose 1-2 lbs per week or something, instead of say, I want to lose 10 pounds by (insert date) lol. That way if you don't make it that week then you always have the next week. If you put a deadline on when you want to lose say 10 pounds and you're coming short then that's discouraging.

Another thing people do is have their main goal, which you have, and then set mini goals so you one of your mini goals could be to get in the 240's, then when you reach that you're next mini goal could be to get in the 230's and so on. And that can be done without deadlines too. I do that myself also, along with the 1-2 lbs per week thing.

Woah! Long post! LOL

Oh about your ticker, I think it's funny you picked the turtle cause it's slow, I thought you would have picked it cause it's cute. But even if the turtle is slow, it'll eventually get where it wants to go ;)

I know thanks! :) So im very determined. My diet has been pretty good this past week. Other than a small slip up here and there. I overate on dinner a few days ago but it was a healthy dinner (and when I say I overate I mean I had the next days portion) :( , also last night my bf brought over DQ burgers so i had to have one. :S I had no will power when I smelled it because those are my favorites. BUT i only took 2 small bites of his Blizzard! So I couldve completely overindulged but I kept thinking I'm going to regret it. Also I had no alcohol this past week! Which is pretty good for me. No excercise tho because of me being back to work and so tired. But I started back on my excercise plan on thurs and I'm going to make sure I stick to it.

Im feeling soooo much more energetic. WOW what a difference one week of eating healthy and drinking more water can do. Its shocking. I dont think i've felt this good in a long time. :D

It's awesome you're already feeling better! I don't think I would have resisted the burger either. If it's only a burger that's not too bad, if there was fries with that... that would be bad! I can't believe how many calories fries are, it's ridiculous! Also, the calories in a blizzard is just astronomical! So last time I ate a medium blizzard I only ate half, then put the rest in the freezer. Still, half a medium blizzard is tons of calories, it's so not worth it! Good job on only having a couple bites!

Good luck on your exercise for this week! I'm so happy for you that you ate so awesome last week, keep it up!

I know exactly what you mean. I noticed a difference after only a few days. Isn't it great? My mood has been generally more upbeat too.

Grats on the loss so far!

Thanks guys :) yeah my mood has been better too. Not so cranky from feeling like garbage lol. And the blizzard like u said is a CRAZY amount of cal. a large blizzard has over a 1000 calories. Unreal

Yeah I know, 1000 cals is crazy. I mean that's half your calories for a day if you're just maintaining, it's more than half of your calories if you're trying to lose weight. So not worth it! lol

Really struggling this week. Had 2 days of which I drank alcohol and overate. :( Im kicking myself in the ass right now because it really was unnecessary. Now I fear it threw me off my week so bad that I not only am NOT going to lose anything but gain :( Let this be a lesson to me the next time I feel like picking up that 2nd drink or eating a second helping of dinner. Shame Shame

Well, you're not the only one that did naughty things! We ate at KFC for lunch and instantly regretted it (both Johnny and I). We just felt so crappy afterwards, stupid grease!

Speaking of alcohol, why don't you just cut it out completely. It's all empty calories and it's horrible for your liver and everything else. I mean, you could have it during special occasions like b-days, christmas, thanksgiving, etc... but just cut it out of the normal days.

Yeah I know. I'm going to really have to try because when I drink I eat. ALOT. Its brutal :(
I just weighed myself and it says 250.4 lbs Im thinking i'd better weigh myself in the morning again. I find it hard to beleive I actually lost a pound thru this horrible out of control week.

That must mean you're doing better than you usually are! Which is good :) At least now you're noticing what you're doing and that will help you change it.

We both need to up it next week! I so slacked on my exercise this week so my weigh in tomorrow will be hardly anything... if anything. So lets both step it up this coming week! WOO!

Well its been a while since my last post. I only lost .2 of a lb this week. Ive been so busy I havent even had time to do anything. 12 hour shifts suck ass. Go to work come home sleep, get up do a load of laundry if I have time, prepare my food to eat for the day, then go to work :S Thank god i'm going to have a few days off this week. :D I have not had the chance to do any excercise. Well thats not true 2 days ago I did have the opportunity but I ended up napping instead because I was so tired. I work at the airport and am working until 3 am. It usually gets pretty quiet around 1am so Ive been trying to at least take a walk from one side of the airport to the other and back. Takes me about 15-20 minutes ish. But to be honest it only happened twice this week. So now that its the start of a new week for me I have gotten up a little earlier today. and im gonna try get 30 min of excercise in. Not much but for today its gonna have to do. I think Im gonna start getting up even earlier so I can get a good hour in. Im wondering if lack of sleep is going to affect my loss. is 6-7 hours of sleep enough? I would love to hear anyones input on this matter. Anyways on this note i'd better get off this comp and get to excercising. :)

Hello, I think 7 hours is enough sleep but I really like getting 8 and feel my best when I get that much. I think 6 hours is too little.
I also work at a desk sitting all day and lately I have been doing some jumping jacks in the washroom or just getting up more to go the water cooler which also means getting up more to go to the washroom. You can also do a couple lunges or squats in the washroom - something to raise your heart rate for a short time. I think the walk across the airport is a great idea too so if you could do that more it will help. Also just really watching what you are eating - if you eat healthy food it will give you more energy during the day. And water, water, water!! Small steps will help win the race! You can do it - I believe in you!

Hey, it's good you're bringing and preparing your food though! That's one great thing you can do if you have little time for exercise. If your eating is on track, you can still lose weight.

I think 7 hours is perfectly fine. On Dr. Oz they were talking about sleep and the sleep guy was saying 7.5 hours is perfect. So if you can get 7 then that's great. I do think 6 is not enough, but hey, I've been getting around there myself (going to bed too late, boo!) lol...

You know, they say you can break up your exercise and it will still have the same effect. So if you do 30 mins in the morning and have a 30 min walk at work or after work then you have your hour!
