cherry garcia's diary

I am a dr, so yeah we are all superhuman!! ;)!

My bp is realllllllllly low (never get into triples, always 90/50 at highest), but I have some familiar cholesterol, which I need checking again (mine was high age 17 and again age 20, haven't checked since).
I am glad you found a doc who you feel comfy with, I have seen my fair share of fat and obese drs (even my gastroenterologist who should know better is fat! And my thyroid doc too!).

Have a great day, Camy

yep, i'm quite happy about that because after 320's come the 310s, 300's and then the 290's (it's been YEARS since i was in the 290's)...but i've noticed the rate of weightloss is slowing down abit, but i've prepared myself mentally for it so taking everyday as it comes.

You know, I've heard from my mother that doctors do not take their own advice. They can be pretty stubborn. My mom used to work at a hospital, she told me this story of this doctor that had been ignoring his chest pain for like a week. One day he went home from work and had a heart attack. He lived, but I mean, omg, he could've died, and he's a doctor! But yeah, so maybe that doctor just doesn't care about his health, or maybe he's in denial and he thinks he's in good shape.

I have seen overweight doctors before. It's weird.

It's really good that you're checking on that blood pressure. You're right, it'll probably be normal now. But its good to keep an eye on it.

And congrats, you're almost at 320!

okay just got back from the gym, today was the double class day so was glad because it's my fav day of the week. today did:-

- weights + squats
-45min aerobics class
-45min combat class

tomorrow is my rest day and really looking forward to it....it's been a long week!

Well done, you deserve a good rest day! Try some yoga stretches tomorrow to get back some flexibility from all that hard exercise!

Enjoy!

sorry guys i never saw your posts yesterday when i replied

hey kori, i totally agree with you! i mean i was thinking to myself i'm in the doctors office already, it would take like 30secs to take my BP but nooo i was scheduled to come in another day just to get it taken by the nurse? go figure! i would have thought he'd have at least said a word or two to support me on it, but i got NOTHING.....to be honest i think it was because he might have been kindof embarassed about his weight and didn't want to feel hypocritical, but either way that was wrong on his part i think.
Hey Cherry.. glad the visit to the Doctors wasn't too bad!

Funny isn't it! I had a Doctor who was Obese and smoked when I was a kid :p He was the best Doc I have ever had!

The lecturing Judgemental type ones don't actually help in a lot of cases!

Shame he wasn't more supportive and positive about your weight loss plan.. why didn't he even ask what you are doing? And why couldn't he take your BP then and there? Sheez!

We have a BP machine at home here.. Hubby had to get it but his is now perfect.. I should check mine!

hey camy, wow! i didn't know your a doctor! nice! i guess i've just had bad experiences in the past from docs and they were all thin so it got stuck in my memory, so i know it sounds silly but it's like i've just woken up and discovered that doctors are just like everyone else!

thanks ankebuzz! i'm actually thinking of looking for some very simple beginners yoga exercises that i can be doing in my room. at the gym they have a yoga class but it looks pretty advanced and i'm pretty sure i can't do any of those moves. but i think in the long run i'd like to add yoga to my routine...so will look for some beginners moves for now and improve as i go along.

Hey Cherry,
Just checking in on you. Hope everything is good.

okay, just got back from the gym, today did:-

-60min treadmill (on steep incline)
-45min combat class
-some weights (had to stop since gym was closing early)

i decided to make yesterday a treat day, i had some crisps, a slice of pie and some cheesecake. i don't feel at all guilty since i've eaten healthy 100% for the last 5 weeks or so now (with one treat meal 2 weeks ago). i think i really like where i am right now nutritionally and exercise wise...my weightloss rate has definitely slowed quite abit and was actually hoping the treat meal will help jump start the progress a little, i guess i'll find out in the next couple of days.

wow.. you are doing super well Ms Cherry! Awesome work on everything! and yeah I think you totally deserved your treat day!

okay, so today was a good day and a bad day. let me see, guess i'll start with the not so good news first. so today i went for my appointment to get my blood pressure checked. i'd have thought that since i've been eating healthy since february and exercising since march that my BP should be fine. but the nurse told me it was on the high side and that she'd actually like me to make an appointment with the doctor to know how to proceed :( i was sooo dissapointed! i've never felt healthier my entire life and have never worked this hard! so just felt really dissapointed about that. i scheduled my appointment for next wednesday, i guess i'll find out the next step then, but i'll let my doc know all the measures i've been taking and let him know i wouldn't want to be on medication. all i kept thinking was if my blood pressure is high now with all the hard work i've put in....then what on earth was my BP before i made my lifestyle change? it must have been off the charts! i never saw a doctor then because i was too scared...i finally got the courage to go now and it's still bad news :(

okay, after my not so good morning i was off to the gym. the last couple of days i've been feeling a little low because i feel like i put in 100% and the weight takes FOREVER to come off...but those are things i have to work on, reminding myself that i'm in this for many months to come.

i've known for a long time that my body must have gotten too used to the everyday routine of treadmilling and an aerobics class day in and day out. i had previously tried a beast of a machine called the AMT but couldn't go beyond 1min 20secs no matter how hard i tried when others were doing like 30mins easy on it...i stopped trying it since it was too depressing.

so today i decided i'll try the elliptical machine, i've been thinking about it but never gotten the courage to try since it looked similar to the AMT machine...even hopping on it is a problem because of my short legs, but today i was determined and said i have to try something new. so i got on the elliptical machine and was expecting to manage not more than 2mins especially since it was my first time to try it. it was HARD but i managed 10mins! yippeee! i was so excited but exhausted! and was sweating bullets! thereafter i finished with 50mins on the treadmill on incline. then some weights and a combat class. i'm glad i now have something new to add to my routine so can keep my body guessing. i'm really excited about tomorrow.

so today did:-
-10min elliptical machine
-50min treadmill (steepest incline)
-weights
-45min combat class

Hey Cherry,

Sorry that your doctor's appointment didn't go so well. BP is a tricky thing. It can be high for a number of reasons. Don't let it worry you too much. What you're doing is definitely a step in the right direction and with every healthy decision your making yourself healthier and healthier. And though you're probably not going to be your healthiest for a while, until more weight comes off, you're getting there slowly but surely.

Good going on the Elliptical machine!! I have a similar machine like that at Curves. It's very hard. But there are certain levels you can do.

Anyway, try to keep your head up. :) You're doing SOOOO well. :)
