Changing the Way I Feel and Eat!!!

AHeya sweetie :)

If you want to do more running than you are 'advised' to then that's fine, i did exactly the same but remember to take notice of what your body is telling you and if you do need to rest it then do so :)
You say that you envy other people who just jog round and round, well sweetie, that will be you one day and just think, someone will be looking at you thinking the same thing. When i first started to go to the gym with Ash she would run and run and i was so convinced that i would never be able to do that too and now i can run for longer than her. She was gobsmacked when i told her that i have done a 7 mile run :) You will be there too, i have every faith in you and besides, i will not let you quit this :)

It's funny that you ask if i can go for a walk and that you imagine that i would start out walking end then end up doing a 30 min run......Well, i was saying to Mark last night that i would like to go for a walk (in my head i was thinking 'i can go up the railway line and walk all the way up and try some interval running back!!') today and he said that i should do nothing all weekend just to make sure i recover completely, i wasn't even allowed to go and do the town shop with him this morning. He knows what i am like, he knows that my 'little walk' would be 'a run!' I will try and persuade him to let me go out tomorrow, i'm getting desperate now!!!

:hurray: :hurray: YAY!! Well done on going for a run when you were feeling miserable. I find running is the best medicine for 'the grumps' And don't worry too much about your rhythm and breathing, that will come, i promise, just stick with it sweetie you are doing so awesome my lovely :)

I have porridge for breakfast and 50g (dry) is 180 cals and it fills me up and is slow release energy so i tend not to be hungry for ages, and it is sooooo cheap too.

I love that you wanna be healthy fit first and hot sexy body second. You will find that you get an amazing shape running :) so sexy bod will come with the fitness :)

Finally......Awwwww your baby is just totally adorable, so so cute !!!! My Jack isn't cute anymore :( he is gonna be a teenager next month

Jess that was a great decision turning your grumpy mood around by exercising. I find it's the best mood lifter even if you have to give yourself a big mental kick up the bum to do it. Mario is such a sweetie & obviously takes after his Mum! Instead of thinking that eating breakfast is adding too many calories too early in the day, think instead that it's the best preparation for the day & is getting your metabolism going.

Quoting from the Mayo Clinic-

"Why does eating a healthy breakfast help control weight?

Answer

from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D.

Here are some of the ways that regularly eating a healthy breakfast may help you lose excess weight and maintain your weight loss:

Reduced hunger. Eating breakfast may reduce your hunger later in the day, which may make it easier to avoid overeating. When you skip breakfast, you may feel ravenous later and be tempted to reach for a quick fix — such as vending machine candy or doughnuts at the office. In addition, the prolonged fasting that occurs when you skip breakfast can increase your body's insulin response, which in turn increases fat storage and weight gain. In fact, skipping breakfast actually increases your risk of obesity.

Healthy choices. Eating breakfast may get you on track to make healthy choices all day. When you eat breakfast, you tend to eat a healthier overall diet, one that is more nutritious and lower in fat. When you skip breakfast, you're more likely to skip fruits and vegetables the rest of the day, too.

More energy. Eating breakfast may give you energy, increasing your physical activity during the day. A healthy breakfast refuels your body and replenishes the glycogen stores that supply your muscles with immediate energy. Skipping breakfast is associated with decreased physical activity.

So, if you skip breakfast — whether you're trying to save time or cut calories — you may want to reconsider, especially if you're trying to control your weight."

I eat about 1/3 of my daily calorie allowance for breakfast & find if I eat too little during the day I am tempted to eat just about anything & everything at night, which, of course is the wrong time to be eating much at all.

I do feel that 2012 is going to be a better year than 2011. I think it's time for things to be more positive & if we do our best to be positive our-selves, whatever comes along will not affect us as much as it might have done before. Let's try to put a positive spin on whatever happens. We can even make a joke about it. Nothing is sacred. When I was feeling so sick that I imagined how bad you must feel when you are dying, I made a joke that "Every cloud has a silver lining. At least I lost 2kg over xmas!" So that's going to be my approach for 2012. No matter what happens I am going to try to find a funny and/or positive side to it.

Sending you lots of love sweetie, xoxo Cate

Hi Cate!

I know its not pizza!!!!!:drool5: but still calories are really high.I just could of taken control and i didnt. It bothers me that i am 77 kg for a really long time. Not because i have hit a plateau but because i am not strick any more, i allow myself a little this a little that and my calori intake isnt as low as it should be for weight loss.Maybe maintaining (and a little extra gain at xmass!)

I am planning to have lentile soup today...Dont know how i am going to weigh my food accurate......I'll try do my best.

We woke up late 12ish and im taking Mario to a near by park to play.I'll be back later on.

My tumy feels bloated and i am dreading tommorow weigh in cause i think i will have no loss at all.I am NOT willing to cut off more cals from my diet its already hell trying to cope with 1300~!!But i could do something about e\workouts.Maybe adding my 1 hour bike as i usually did after my run?i have to figure something out!

AHi Jess,
I know what you mean about the muesli in the middle of the night thing... I think that it's great though that you came on here and told us all about it! I think so much of this whole weight-loss-journey thing is about just being conscious of our food decisions, which you were by coming on here! And like Cate said, you could have had pizza - and maybe before, you would have had. But it is hard to stay positive about stuff like that. I would have reacted exactly the same way... but Cate is right - we have to be easier on ourselves and more forgiving! And if you look at what you ate in the evening, it was barely anything, so maybe that is why you woke up hungry in the night!

I totally agree with what you said about not reducing your calories any more! I look at what you eat, and I think it's pretty much excellent! You shouldn't feel like you are being deprived... Maybe when the after-dinner-munchies hit you, you can go to your container of chopped up veggie sticks and have them with some salsa or some tzatziki or something like that... something that's quick and easy and very little calories. I remember when I was really struggling with that, I would often have one scoop of lemon sorbet, which was only 80 calories. Or if I wanted something salty, I'd make myself some popcorn, which is very little calories for a huge bowl (it's mostly air, but makes you feel like you're eating stacks!).

Ah, I hate to reply with a bunch of advice - but I really sympathise! I feel like the point where you are at right now with your 'lifestyle choice' is exactly where I was this time last year when I was trying to be really healthy and lose weight pre-pregnancy. I started with a BMI of 28 (two years before I had a BMI of over 30) and eventually, just by being really conscious of my food, I got down to a BMI of 23 point something. YOU WILL GET THERE TOO!!! Just keep plodding along doing what you are doing. xxx

AHeya sweetie :)

:iagree: :iagree: with both of the above. It's good that you came on here and told about it. I totally understand about being angry with yourself but like they said, it could have been so much worse.

One thing i did think was that when you are doing longer running times you will be burning so many more calories so things like 'midnight muesli' wont matter. I think i burn about 450cals running for 30 mins :)

Sending you lots of positive vibes hun and big hugs :grouphug:

A:iagree::iagree::iagree:

We all have those days....you just put that bad day in the past...and don't let it set the tone for the rest of the week....I truly believe that is the key...its just a day...not letting it turn in to a week or a month is why we actually are doing it this time...seeing real results!!!! ...hugs to you my dear...you will have a great day soon...don't let this one get you down. :grouphug:

A:iagree::iagree: totally!!!
Yes, now you are running, you will be BURNING so much more! So don't stress, m'dear.

And like Tete said, it absolutely is about not letting that one decision mean a whole bad day, or week, or month. xx

AJess, first of all congrats on another run. :hurray::hurray::hurray:

Second of all, I don’t think you were way over your calorie target. The veggies in a salad have so few calories I usually have to eat bread and 2 snacks just to reach the target and not be way under.

And, :iagree: with Cate about breakfast. That’s one of the meals I don’t miss ever...

Breakfast 2 coffees (140)

Lunch Plate of lentile soup 1 slice of bread (64)

Snack Raisins(100) 2 rice cakes (60) 1 mini toast (30)

I listened to you Cate and did well today!I dont know how many cals the soup was.I tried to count but it was so confusing while i had to make a huge pot of the stuff. So i ended up really having no clue.It cant be bad , and is definatly healthy!I didnt have many potatoes,i took them out,but i did have some carrotts in the soup.A tiny bit of olive oil and some canned tomatoe sause. It was really tasty, or i was really hungry!

Tommorow is weigh day!Its a good thing i have managed to stay away from the scales and do what isaid.Im not going to weigh before i use the loo though!!I dont think it will be fair!!!!Im really not expecting anything.Hell im not expecting any gain either i havent been a saint but definatly not bad enough to gain anything!

I am going for my run tommorow with my friend Aris.Im going to do week 2 again.I normally would do week 3 , but he hasnt done so much.I hope i dont slow myself down by "loosing" a week..

Hi Jess,

I've been following your weight loss diary, just haven't commented yet. I just wanted to quickly congratulate you on your progress so far and to say that I really admire your determination. You shouldn't worry too much about being "stuck" at 77, you'll start losing weight again soon. I really like how you post photos of what you eat, it really inspires me to try new foods. Also, great idea not to weigh yourself today. You're definitely on the right track!

I went to the super market and got Oat falkes so im going to make poridge tommorow morning.Never had that before...I think i am going to add some raisins of honey so it sweetens a bit. Also i saw these new mini toast that had come out and the top part is covered in brown sugar and cinnamon.I got them thinking i'll have 2 when i really want something sweet and ended up having 5.....Im not going to buy them again!!!

Im off to read diaries and hope i get better legs tommorow but i think tommorow they will feel worse specially in the morning!!!!

Risa Lee thank you for coming in and posting and for saying im inspiring !!!i am having a hard time now but im really hoping to get through this with all you great peoples help!!!!!

OUCH!! Poor Jess. That sounds like something I would do! Take it easy sweetie & have that rest day in between to give your body time to recover. Maybe if you still hurt like crazy tomorrow just go for a walk, making sure you do lots of warm-ups & stretches (she says not knowing that much about it- never been shown what to do, just observed :blush5:) Take care Jess, xoxo Cate

AHeya hun

Awww sorry you had a total nightmare with your run. But don't stress about it. Rest tomorrow and try it (the right way round) the day after if your legs feel ok, if not, wait another day. I don't stretch before i run but i do afterwards and if they feel tight i get in the bath. Maybe try slowing up a bit, that might help too. Also you were probably tense because you were annoyed with your phone and wasn't actually enjoying it.

Yay, porridge, i really hope you like it, it is so filling and is slow release energy, very good for you :) And i proper laughed out loud when i read about the cinnamon toast, that is so something i would do. I have stopped buying the cereal bars i was getting cos i got to the stage where i was eating 4-5 a day!!!!!

Good idea not weighing, i weighed once when i felt horrid and bloated and was in such a bad mood after i didn't see what i wanted to.

Sending you lots of love and hugs Xxx

AHi Jess, sorry to hear about your run. Regarding those cinnamon toasts, maybe there’s something in the air ;) (I ate a sponge cake and a very sweet bagel today).
And :iagree: withboth Kate's, don’t stress about it and relax. You’ll probably fell better after a day off.

Regarding zumba – How hard is it? Do you do it at home? :seeya:

Hi !!! In sorry i havent posted i am really tired,i am also really hurting again

I went for my run today , and it was again so difficult,i was so much out of breath , and my legs after started to hurt like on Monday. So i guess its going to take some time to go away.My husband said its because my legs the area around and under my knees arent used to this kind of exersice and liffting my bodys weight is such a way.He said it will go away in about a week....So again i didnt really enjoy it!!!nut i managed to finish it and i checked out on my fitness pal (iam using it again) that for 9 minutes run i burn only 90 cals(at the pace i am going at)so not really much there, hoping to get faster slowlly , but really running for 30 minutes seems SO FAR AWAY

As i have said before myfitnesspal says i must eat the cals i burn to keep my calories up to 1400.I still dont know if i should do that,i remember Kate telling me she doesnt do that.(and she is really still loosing weight!!!)so maybe i;ll eat them if i really feel hungry and not eat them when i can manage.IIts not only the 9minutes running but also the 20 minutes walk and other activities in the day that count. It is really great for me to eat the cals but i am just fed up with me not loosing any weight.I havent really eaten today even if my cals seem to be good. But im done for the day,not having anything else and just hope i can feel this way tommorow and keep away from junk.

I ate yesterday 700 cals woth of chocolate..........I was a total of 1580 not really much over considering what i ate but still i shouldnt of done that.So i was really good today.

According to myfitenss if i eat 1400 i'll be loosing 1 pound (600gr)every week

Its really easy to keep track that way and its really nice at the end of the day to see that you have earned calories from workout!

Im really sleepy i will try read you guys!

Love and hugs to all!

Hi Jess, I love My Fitness pal too. You could choose to lose more a week if you want to, but I find the 1lb a week, easily sustainable & it still allows me some treats. Once a week on average I go over for one day & go a few hundred under about one day & I don't think that affects my weight-loss much at all. I think it's really good to keep track because when I do have something I think I shouldn't, I stop at that. Sometimes I do some additional exercise to work it off. Also I like to add what I think I will eat for the rest of the day & can then work around it. eg. Do I have enough cals for a glass of wine if I eat X for dinner or should I have Y instead (or maybe skip the wine? :blush5:) I don't count most of my activities, only the strenuous ones or I would end up eating too much. It also depends on what activity level you programmed it too- sedentary, lightly active, (I put this) active or very active. Being a parent of a young child you are probably active before you start planned exercise. My daily calorie allowance is 1420. I did have it set to lose more per week but struggled to keep within the allowance so figure 1lb a week is more a long-term achievable strategy. It's not a hardship. Make sure you add the walking component of your C25K as walking burns up quite a few calories as well. I sometimes put gardening in if I have been doing really strenuous, physical housework, like moving furniture.

Hopefully your legs will stop hurting soon sweetie. You only run on alternate days I hope. You can always do your own program & build up to running a little slower if you find you are still hurting after another week. I also use a free app called
logo.png
to chart my walks etc. A friend who used to be in the forum put me on to it. It's excellent & charts your route etc via GPS & you can link it to Facebook if you want to. I think it's still a free app.

My LH & I have been looking at holiday brochures & dreaming about a trip next year for my birthday. The Greek Islands are on top of the list at the moment. It's exciting but also up in the air because we have no idea what we will be able to afford really. It's fun dreaming though. One thing I do know is that we will go somewhere! Lots of love, & healing thoughts, xoxo Cate
