Cate's Diary

Cate I am sorry about your Bil friend being killed . Sadly it happens so often with machinery . RIP

Glad you are feeling a bit better . You are doing everything right so the weight loss will come . Your are living a healthy life and choosing all the right stuff . Payback will happen for us all if we continue to live like that

Love it, LaMa!
Thanks, Petal
xoxo

HI Cate,
Just catching up on your diary after yesterday having my internet down again. Glad to hear a cold didn't develop, though I hate that when I get congested ears. I drink curry broths when that happens and it helps a lot.
Archie is looking very spiffy in his coat!! I saw a dog the other day here wearing such great rain gear. i love seeing dogs look all comfy and weather proof in their gear!

Thanks, Sadie. Archie is very good medicine :beating: He follows me around the house, stops in a doorway he's not allowed through( bedroom section) and is currently back on my lap while I have a cup of tea. He's a joy!

Love this. He really sounds like he's added so much to your life Cate. Have you ever had a dog before?

Hi, Liza. My ear is a bit better today after a second night if using wax softener. He does look really spiffy, doesn't he. He doesn't like me putting it on though because of the noise. It's lined with polar fleece too.
Hi, Em. We have been without a dog since Dec 2018 when we had to have our little silky Terrier put to sleep at 17 yrs old. I was so attached to her & thought I couldn't find another dog to love as much. G & I feel like Archie feels like a combination of our last 3 dogs. We both love terriers.
We are going for our family lunch at G's brother & SIL's today & they have insisted we bring him.
I didn't get a good night's sleep last night as it rained & he cried, then he woke at 6 & needed to go to the toilet & then slept until 8 but I couldn't get back to sleep. I'll try to get an earlier night.

Fingers crossed for the doggy door arriving soon...
He sleeps in the crate overnight, LaMa, so couldn't go outside without help. We haven't done anything about the doggy door yet. I'm still in two minds which sort to get.
Cate glad your ear is a bit better . Hope you have a lovely meal with the family and Archie behaves .
A little better again today, Petal. I'll use the wax stuff for a few days more & if it doesn't clear I'll book in with the doc/nurse.
We had a really lovely day & G's brother was really taken with Archie & took him for a walk & said he'd be happy to babysit him if we ever go away. Next month we were considering putting him in a kennel for 2 nights as we're going to Hobart to play golf on a Sunday. R offered to have him at his place, but I couldn't see how that would work & think it would be really disruptive. It was funny, because the thought had entered my head that G's brother & SIL would be a good option as I know he really wants a dog & misses having one. There is no way known I would have asked him though.
Archie really liked him too. He behaved really well & slept on his little bed in the corner near G & I while we all ate. He doesn't jump up on anyone eating or attempts to steal food from low coffee tables & is one very well behaved little dog.
The GK's are arriving in 15 minutes & I wanted to quickly type in here before they get here. There was so much spam this morning  that I haven't had time to check the diaries. Will maybe come back tonight after they leave or have a look on my phone later. It has been 3 months since we saw them. I can't wait!

oh that's great about have willing dog-sitters! Good to know you aren't too tied down if you do want to do a trip or something.
Exciting about the grandkids! Have a lovely visit!

Thanks, Em & Liza. Archie kept barking at C, but has settled again. I gave him some treats to put in his pocket to bribe him with & that helped. All is quiet again. He was funny with a child in the park one day, so I will be watchful around children. C is 12 & I think the previous owner has kids around that age.

I'm sure he'll soon learn that C isn't a threat. I can't blame him for being less relaxed around kids - they're a lot less predictable than adults and that's probably scary when you're knee-high.

Hey Spam Killer, thanks for doing that! I find the spam irritating, I am sure it is much worse for you.

A new dog takes a while to adapt to the new pack, but with time Archie should recognize family. The treats were a great idea. Dogs are funny though, some just have prejudices against certain individuals. Hope that is not the case with C. Enjoy the GKs!

Yes good to keep an eye out if Archie is seemingly stressed by kids. It would be interesting to ask his previous owner how he was with the kids in their household. Good to know if you need to keep extra distance there.

Hi, LaMa, Rob & Liza & anyone else reading my diary :)
He was fine with him by the end of the day, but I think dogs are wise to be wary around kids too. I think I will ask his previous owner about it. Our grandson is a quirky character & not at all outgoing. It will be nice when Archie gets used to him.
He walked into his crate at bed-time last night, which was really good. It rained heavily for most of the night & I was expecting him to bark & subsequently had a poor night's sleep. He did bark at 4.30, I put him outside, put wood on the fire, brought him in, dried his paws, put him back in the crate, left a light on & didn't hear from him again until 7.30. :)
He is now sound asleep on my lap.

It was a really lovely day, Rob. I had missed them.
We do only have wood heat, but have a couple of electric heaters in the snooker room, which we turn on half an hour before we want to use the room. Our house is solar passive, double glazed & well insulated. Our winters don't get brutally cold.
Just got back from a walk with Archie. It's about to rain again I think. It's quite a bleak day. I feel good though.

That's good that Archie adjusted to your grandson. Hopefully they can be buddies :)
How far are the grandkids? Do you get to visit lots normally?
This whole separation because of covid thing is really something!

The grandkids live 40 km away & we usually get to see them regularly. They are in a part of Tassie that had a covid outbreak & had strict shut down restrictions. I'm grateful for that. Our state has had no new cases for 28 days & also has no active cases. Our son hasn't had them stay with him for 3 months. We all had a good talk about it yesterday & they got a chance to talk about being back at school & their feelings about the whole thing. We got to talk about their mum & her family & how they have not coped at all well. It's really important I think that they have a stable space & a good, trusting relationship with us. I never criticize their Mum.
I had that as a child with my great aunt & my father's mother. They were rocks.

Cate that’s fantastic that there has been no cases in 28 days . Let’s hope it’s stays like that . Your grandkids are very blessed to have you
