Cate's Diary

Even the pappadams that don't say so can be done in the microwave, I think - at least, the ones I've tried have. :)

That's so good to read, that the golf went so well! But as for needing "a couple of lessons": wasn't that you winning prizes a week or so back? :D

I don’t think they are that high in calories . My husband has an odd time and I checked them.
I too thought you were pretty competent golf players but I suppose even the pros have lessons !

Glad you're getting some golfing in, Cate. Food a few days back looks delicious as always. Nice to see your kind words of support for so many here.

Amy- I am not a very good golfer at all. G & I playing in a team with others play ok. I am not being modest either. I was 10 shots better year before last. That's how much my handicap has gone out.
Petal- Pappadams are ok, calorie-wise, especially microwaved. It does them really well too. G's handicap is half mine & he is a much better player. I have been getting progressively worse, but last year's debacle didn't help.
Rob- Thank you. It felt good to actually finish 18 holes of golf & to play a little better than I have done for ages. Hopefully, I have turned a corner. When I caught up with G yesterday after his game he had booked us both in for a lesson next week.

I didn't log my food yesterday but had
BF- Greek yoghurt, fruit salad & almond meal
Skinny cappuccino
L- Corn fritters (light, fluffy & delicious) with salad & beetroot/yoghurt mayo thingy
Skinny cappuccino
Red wine
Scotch fillet steak(YUM) & lots of veggies
12 cherries, 1 Ferrero Rocher choc
2 hot lemon drinks
1700 cals?
7284 steps

Home day today. I'm knackered. I slept like a log. It's cool, almost cold. I could go back to sleep......

The steak sounds amazing. Good job on just having one chocolate.

I’m just about to go to sleep, I hope you can pass the good sleep energy through to me, haha.

Oh your food sounds totally delicious. I like ferrerro rocher . I had one of the dark ones over Xmas . Like you just one ! Yum

Yay for golf lessons! Learning more technique for whatever kind of exercise you enjoy tends to be both fun and worthwhile.

Hi, Em. The steak was scrumptious. I haven't had a steak for ages as we have a freezer full of venison, but we called in at a butcher's on the way home from town & these steaks talked to me. I think I would feel sick if I had more than one Ferrero Rocher. I eat them in 2 bites, rather than just whole. We were given them. I wouldn't buy them.
Hi, Petal. I'm not a big fan of FR chocs. The dark ones are the best though, but they seem all fat & sugar to me.
Hi, LaMa. I'm looking forward to the lesson. We have 30 mins each. I'm sure it will help.

I didn't log yesterday's food & I didn't get my steps in either. I was really tired. Neither of us did much at all.
I ate-
BF- Ryvitas with boiled eggs, hummus & tomato
Lunch- Venison curry, veg curry on rice/quinoa (only 1/2 cup of raw 50/50 mix)
12 cherries & 1/2 banana
1 diet lemonade, 1 white wine (ugh- I really don't like it much)
D- Porterhouse steak with lots veggies (broccoli, cauli, carrot, potato, ratatouille)
Fruit salad & 1 small dollop sorbet
2 hot lemon drinks
Cals- WAG 1600(?)
Steps- only 3100 :svengo:
Getting into my work gear today & I think we'll go get some wood.

Cate - how much do you get out of a golf lesson? I took some personal tennis lessons a while back. I saw a lot of improvement in my net game, but other than that I didn't get to much out of it. It's hard to break old habits!

How much you get out of a lesson also depends on how you prepare for them. The more exactly you know what you want to analyze/change/practice the better you can use your time. And then of course keep practicing those things in later games until they become new habits, which should be easier in golf than tennis because you can take a second to think and concentrate instead of having to react to an opponent in the moment.

I think part of the problem I had with the tennis lessons was that the teacher was more of a drill guy and a show-you than one who could or would necessarily find a flaw in your swing to work on. I remember he would say do this and do this and do this. So I asked him, which one should I focus on first? And he said all of them, so that was kind of too much.

But sometimes, you have a way of doing things, and it gets you by so you don't want to give it up. The teacher told me that kids learned way faster and improved far more quickly than adults. Probably because they don't have that muscle memory, plus the way kids learn.

I will say that my net game was improved, though. I think it's because I had hardly ever played net up until then, so it was kind of a green area. Plus the movements are less complex.

You're right though, Cate. A lesson can't hurt. Anyway, I would take a free lesson given the chance.

Great about the golf lessons. It's always interesting to have another's insight. Sometimes just a small tweak can make a big difference! And always good for the brain to be learning something new!

This is a problem with many coaches whatever sport it may be, there is often an attitude that "this is the way I was taught" rather than the coach learning improved ways to teach the same skills.

Cate hope you are not so tired today and managed lots of steps gathering wood.
Did you mix your lemonade with wine ? Or was it just not nice wine ?

I think your golf lesson will be good. I had them years ago but golf wasn't for me really.

Hi, LaMa, Jack, Tru, Amy, Liza & Petal.
I changed our lesson to next week as we have too much on this week. I was away all day yesterday playing golf 1.45 hours drive away. The lesson was to cost us $90($45 each), but G came second in a tournament last week & his prize included a voucher to the club where we have the lesson booked. It will pay for another lesson for one of us, so that's a bonus. I'll have a think about what I want to concentrate on. I just asked G & his is hitting off the tee. I had thought that was mine too, so that will be convenient. I think it's my stance- how far back I stand from the ball etc. I used to have a much better swing. I'll give it some more thought between now & Tuesday of next week.
I have heard really good things about the golf coach from a couple of women, so don't feel too nervous.
Amy- have you made fritters?
Petal- I had the diet lemonade hoping to then not feel like a glass of wine, but it didn't work. G liked the wine, but I rarely like white.

I slacked off with logging over the weekend, but would have been ok with cals- maybe a little over on Sat, but not much. We gathered wood in the morning & I did lots of raking in the afternoon. Steps were 6513 with 80 active minutes.
Sunday- cals would have been over (1800?) & steps 1103, 159 active minutes, 7.78 km.

I had a really good outcome yesterday. G & I played with another couple. She & I are usually the only women in the group. As we chatted while we were playing the game I mentioned that I had tested out some new clubs last week, but hadn't particularly liked them. She said that I should try her "old" set as they were just sitting around in their garage. She said she didn't know why she bought new ones really as these ones are really good. She said she just got a really good tax return & decided to get new ones. I'm calling in on Tuesday night to pick them up. She's taller than me so they'll be long enough. I'm quite excited about it. They sound really good & are fairly new.

Starting over with logging, I am quite tired today, but I really enjoyed my day yesterday. Our older son called in last night, which was nice. He's taking the kids to the beach for a few days today & called in to get the chess set. We gave it to our youngest GS for Xmas year before last & he asked if he could keep it here to keep it safe.

Sorry about the absolute nothing in the reply above - I was blocked from replying, but now the blockage seems to have cleared.

I've made fritters in the past, but not yet this week - I'll be hoping to do it with a light egg-whitey batter. And also, while I'm living dangerously (ie allowing myself fried things) I'll have a banana fritter before too long. :) I'm still on for the swim, too - just have to get myself to a swimming pool!

That's great about the new-to-you golf clubs! And also another woman golfing friend - though maybe this is at G's club, rather than your closer one? Doesn't matter, though, all new friends are good, whether close or farther away! And your whole weekend sounds good, with family calling in, and your grandson wanting to take the chess set on holidays, and everything. Lovely! :hug2:
