Cate's Diary

Thanks, Liza. It has taken me aaaages to get focussed again, but I really do feel that I am now. Something has clicked.
I went for a walk through the bush (almost 2km). It's quite a hard walk, but I really enjoy it. I spotted a couple of wallabies & lots of birds, but no snakes. I always wear gaiters & my hiking boots & never have bare skin. I hope I see one soon. I don't want them near the house, but they are beautiful creatures & it's exciting to see one.
I bought a couple of bottles of no-alcohol bubblies the other day & we drank one today. It's not bad, but G didn't like it so I probably won't buy any more. It's only 84 calories for a whole bottle. I enjoyed it anyway.

Hi Cate
I am glad the smoke cleared in your area. And you walk sounds really good. Your weight loss too is fantastic and you are getting in lots of calories which is a plus.
We walk a lot with the camera. I love taking a pic of a flower or something unusual. Sadly nothing as exciting as a snake or a wallabie .

Heh, no snakes or wallabies in these parts! :D

Glad the smoke has cleared Cate. I also feel a renewed enthusiasm, hope we can both keep it up.

Hi, Petal. The smoke apparently came over from Victoria. It's a little bit hazy on the mountains this morning, but OK up here at the moment. It felt so good to get on the scales & see a drop. I'm mostly putting my food into MFP before I eat it & often change my mind about what I'm having. Last night I was hungry & really fancied some nuts. I put what I thought was a reasonable portion into a little bowl, then I went & weighed it & had to halve the portion. I had 15g & ate those nuts very slowly. They were delicious!
Hi, Em. I hope we can keep this enthusiasm going too. It's crazy not to concentrate our efforts on getting as healthy as we can. I feel SO much better mentally & physically when I really concentrate on eating well & exercising. I feel more alive. We can do this!
Whenever I "diet" G loses weight. This week he lost .5kg. His weight has hardly varied since I have known him. He has a good relationship with his weight & body. I envy that. I must admit I have been feeling less critical of myself lately. My walks make me realise that I am quite strong & sturdy. That doesn't sound very flattering I know, but I love being able to walk through the bush. I have to be careful still as I do not want to fall & break something. I'm glad I'm not frail though. My legs are oak trees, rather than willows. They are the part of me I like the least, but I should be more grateful.

Mine too! I love having strong legs. they just feel like such a contrast to my wimpy arms though! Haha. I always like the idea of being strong and fit.

Your walk really sounds amazing. I can imagine a little bit what you mean by appreciating seeing a snake. I remember seeing a large one once when I was travelling. It was quite awe-inspiring for sure! Where i live, we just have little snakes. What kind of snakes do you have around there?

It's great that you are feeling that focus again. I think there is something to waiting for the right time to do things. sounds like this is your right time!

Absolutely agree - what a great year this is going to be, health-wise and in just generally having things in focus. :)
And also - cheering for good strong legs! :hurray: These are great bodies - they work, and keep on going and some of them - mine, anyway - have put up with some pretty rough treatment (I mean my bad eating habits!) along the way, and are still hanging in - oak trees for the win!

Your food sounds delicious Cate . And good to appreciate the body and be thankful it is strong and sturdy. I have sturdy legs and have had people refer to them as such

I have sturdy-looking legs that are great at walking but really not as strong in terms of one-rep max. Much stronger than 20 years ago though and it seems they got slimmer with added strength.

Hi, Rob. G's a great cook & we spend most of our money on good food.
Hi, Liza. We have only 3 types of snakes in Tasmania, all venomous, but mostly shy & not aggressive unless you tread on them or they are protecting their young.
  • Tiger snake - Notechis scutatus
  • Lowland copperhead - Austrelaps superbus
  • White-lipped snake - Drysdalia coronoides
Hi, Amy. Oak trees for the win indeed. Maybe I should make more of an effort to love my legs! I'm going to work on that :)
There's a reason sacred trees were often oaks. Yay for strength!
Hi, LaMa. I agree. Yay for strong legs. I have been doing squats again & am going to do some work on my legs to strengthen them even more.
Mine have gone from being baobab to oak, willows they will never be.
Hi, Rob. Mine will never be willows either, but we can be happy to have oaks.
Hi, Petal. Some people are just plain rude. It's ok for us to say that we have sturdy legs, but not for others to do so.

OK. I had a really good day yesterday & got out twice for walks. I did some squats in the morning & am going to incorporate them into my day along with a bit of Qi Gong.

Just a quick post to pass on an insight. I had some major stress today, which lasted a few hours until I resolved it satisfactorily. I had been hungry beforehand but that hunger vanished & I couldn't even think of eating. We are all so different, but it's interesting that some of us are stress eaters & others not. I'm glad I resolved the problem as I hate stress.

I'm glad you got the stress dealt with. My stress and anxiety can go 2 ways toward food. Sometimes towards a binge on junk food (namely chocolate!), sometimes toward no eating at all. It's actually interesting as I've learned to force myself to eat when I lose my appetite due to anxiety as the hunger will make it worse and eating will often help. The relation between food and stress is really good to be aware of for sure!

I googled your snakes. I am glad to not have poisonous snakes around here! I'm always happy to see our little garden snakes--that's enough snake activity for me :)

That sounds great!

Thanks, Liza. No walking today unfortunately as it's way too smoky out there- this time from Tassie fires. I have had to shut all the doors & windows. I won't be getting my steps today.

They get aggressive then, LaMa & will actually put their heads up & bark! It's a bit early yet.

Cate I’m glad you sorted the stress . And good on not eating through it . I’m the same as Liza I could go either way depending on the stress . Binge or not eat .
Sorry about the fires . Keep safe .

Thanks, Petal. I haven't felt that stressed for ages, thank goodness. I have chosen to have some wine this afternoon, rather than sweets after dinner though. I'm fine with that choice. It's only the amount I would have had before last week & is fine. It's my exception now, rather than my norm.
I got my fire plan out today & will make sure everything is handy if we need to evacuate anytime. Mainly important docs, but also I'm going to get my passwords & important docs in order as my stress today was about that. It was not good.
My writer friend's house is intact & her ponies are ok, but they have lost most of their outbuildings, fences etc. She & 2 other families have been housed for free at a friend's house. She is calling them climate refugees & I think that is accurate. I don't think we know anyone here who will not be affected by the fires.
