Cate's Diary

I am decluttering a little as I go, and it feels wonderful. I love music festivals that are outside. Sounds wonderful!! Hope you can just smile and ignore the bossy sister in law. I had an ex-father-in-law like that, and we got along well when I learned to just smile and nod and not offer any personal information for him to pounce on. I realized that if he was that critical, he was probably very insecure, and if I just agreed with him when I could, he was happy. Anyway, you are probably already there, but I hope it goes well!!!

We should all get together and have a big avocado and bean salad together some day!!

Tru- I love getting rid of stuff, but most of the things I have left that I don't really want to keep are reasonably valuable (collectables &/or antique) & I need to work out the best way of selling them.
Petal- I do a regular de-clutter too & am getting more ruthless with each one. I obviously de-cluttered a Summer dress last year as I can't find it anywhere. It wasn't very flattering, but it was very cool. Oh, well.
The family lunch is a good idea in theory. I felt very unsettled afterwards. G's younger brother & his wife are still hostile towards G's older brother & his wife & we tried avoiding talking about our visit but kept being asked by his sisters about it. Thank goodness it's only every 3 months & the next one won't be until June as we're away for most of May :D
LaMa- The concert should be fun. We have another one before that as well :) The next 4 weekends we have something fun happening! I needed steady nerves for the lunch & avoided being bossed. I also disappeared a few times & took some time out to relax. G's sister & BIL's home has so much stuff in it & I can't see how they would ever be able to move. It is mind-boggling. I came home even more intent on de-cluttering.
Marsia- I tried new tactics with my SIL yesterday & it seemed to help. I think she may have realised she overstepped the mark last visit as well. She is very much like her mother. I love her, but seeing her too often would not be good for me. Tell me. Does your stomach make outlandish growling noises in the morning? If so, did they disappear after a few weeks of IF?

I got a phone call from one of the golfing women yesterday asking me if I would partner her at the ladies opening day at the local club. She thought that I might be able to just come along & play & have fun. This call really shook me up as it was her son who committed suicide in Oct. We talked for about 20 mins, but I told her I wasn't ready to go back out there. I actually told her that the thought of it made me shaky. She understood a little as her son had talked about a conversation about the golf club I had with him a week before he died. We were both very stressed that day & I told him not to be so hard on himself as he had volunteered to do a job that no-one else had wanted to & that it was a huge job.
I have been very surprised at the reactions of the women golfers to my leaving. She said how much everyone misses me & my sense of humour. I think she will keep in touch.

We have the day at home today & are going to pick laurel berries & wash our cars. My little Kia is covered in bugs!
Tomorrow we are playing fun golf as a team in a partners comp.

Hi Cate, yes, in the mornings often I have trouble fasting - I get shaky. So I adjust my fasting window to eat breakfast and lunch and then stop eating for the day. More than half the time, that is what I do. And on days where I feel shaky, I make sure I eat a lot of good fat, and that helps immensely.

It's funny that the women from your club really want you to come back, but took you for granted when you were there. It's nice they acknowledge how good you were for their club, though!

We decluttered so much today I can barely stand. Feels really good though!

Cate enjoy your day picking berries and car washing . Nice your friend getting back out after her sons suicide . Good for her .

I needed steady nerves for the lunch & avoided being bossed. I also disappeared a few times & took some time out to relax.
That´s great! Sometimes a little break makes all the difference.
We have the day at home today & are going to pick laurel berries
This may be a stupid question but are you talking about cherry laurel (Prunus laurocerasus)? What do you use the berries for?

I wondered what laurel berries are, too. I forgot to comment on all the great activities you and G are doing without even needing to do a whole new life plan or anything - fun things are just falling into place!

Hi, Marsia, LaMa & Petal.
I can't work out which laurel tree they come from. We have 2 that have berries & a 3rd which is the Bay Laurel.
Marsia, I have some nuts & beef jerky handy to eat if I get even slightly shaky playing golf. I'll see how I go. Today is day 5 of IF :)

I do that, too, carry nuts and things with me. How is it going so far? Is it much different from 5:2 for you?

Bay laurel is the one you use in cooking. The one with the berries sounds like a cherry laurel but of course there´s no way to be sure over the internet. Still: are the berries edible or do you gather them for some other purpose?

Really glad to hear it! When I first started, it took about a week to get used to and to figure out how to not wind up shaky and hungry at the end of the day. Nuts are really helpful for that, and for me a good source of fiber because my diet has way less fiber than I am used to.

LaMa-I think it must be a cherry laurel as I can't find what else it could be. The berries are edible. We have been eating them for years & years. G makes a Worcestershire sauce & laurel berry jam. This year there is a huge crop. We have a 3rd tree which is a bay laurel & we use the leaves off that in cooking.
Marsia- I'm not having any trouble with it really. I have an alarm set on my phone to take my BP meds at midday & I haven't been getting dizzy or shaky. While I haven't really changed what I eat, only when, I can't work out why I am now constipated though. Hopefully, my system will adapt. It was used to getting on the move after breakfast/coffee. I had some beef jerky & nuts with me yesterday & ate some of that at 12.15 so that I could take my meds while playing golf.

G & I played golf with a lovely couple yesterday & had a lot of fun. We played badly though. He still feels really sad I think about everything that has happened & maybe felt uncomfortable about it all. So many people came up & talked to him. One couple in particular came & talked heaps to us & would like us to join their club. We have decided we won't go & join another club until we over this one. He probably needs to play more golf socially & I need to find another activity. It's very hard on your body. My feet hurt like crazy last night. It was also very hot!

A day at home today :D

Thanks for the laurel info, I love finding out about "new" edible plants and will do some more googling to make 100% sure I'm not doing anything silly.
If your guts used to get going AFTER breakfast it's no wonder they're now confused as gut motility gets a push after meals. I expect it to adapt to activity after lunch. Keep drinking plenty of water in the meantime.

Cate glad the IF is working well for you . And great you were out playing golf again. Nicefor you both .
Hope the constipation problem doesn't last . As LaMa says plenty of water .

Hi, folks. I have had an incredibly scary afternoon. Tasmania has lots of bushfires that have been burning for ages. We have lost a lot of our beautiful wilderness & down the sw of Tassie & up in the Central highlands many people have had to evacuate their homes. The smoke has been in the distance mostly & hasn't found its way up to us on top of our hill.
Today I looked out & saw smoke that looked fairly close & rang our neighbour down the bottom of the hill. There was no answer on his landline so I rang his mobile. He said that there was a fire on our road, but he & another volunteer firefighter had it almost under control. I said "I'll leave you to it then" & hung up. Since then it obviously escalated as all afternoon there were helicopters with buckets going backwards & forwards & it only stopped about 4.15.
I had my fire plan out, my bag packed, & I was as scared as anything. I rang our neighbour & she was as worried as me.
Eventually the helicopters vanished & I figured they must have it under control. We went for a short drive & turned around when we saw firefighters.
We have had lots of calls & messages, mostly from golfing friends & our older son. Our grandson went to stay with a friend for the night.
Our home is up on a hill on a one way street. There is no other way out. I'm going to talk to our neighbours & see if we can bulldoze an exit. There are lots of people who live up our way in a similar situation.
I have been replying to friends who have been worrying about us & am going to have a glass of wine & relax. What a day!

That does sound really scary Cate . I hope you managed to clear the road . Really nice lots of people checked in on you and you on them . Stay safe and hope the fires are out now .

It was! It's out now. We went & checked it out at 8.30 pm. It was very close to 4 homes. Scary stuff! It may have started with a piece of broken glass on the side of the road.

I am glad it was a good ending, this is Australia, if it is not fire it is drought or flood.

It is a bit of a worry that you only have one direction out.
