Cate's Diary

Have fun at golf! Maybe in the last three weeks the club has changed for the better. People sometimes tend to be more altruistic after the new year, at least for a month before they get all grumpy again.
It's a nice thought KP. Even if everyone else gets grumpy I am going to wear my protective shield. It works just like duck-down for water.
Hope you enjoyed your golfing.
Thanks Cory. I had my best game so far yesterday :)
I can just see you with your golfing hat, a rim-free, bowler-like affair with a little bunker on the side for a flower :) I like this game!
I love this game too LaMa & have added KP's scarf & also a protective cape(see above) & lucky silver elephant ear-rings. (I actually wore those yesterday & they work!
All this talk of undies and boxers... Sounds like it was an interesting new year's eve party in this thread...
Hi K&D- yes, the NY has kicked off with a bit of light-hearted silliness, which never goes astray!

Yesterday- I had my best game since I started playing golf 3 years ago. As you get better at golf, naturally your handicap gets lower & your net score(for those who don't play that's the number of shots you hit, less your handicap) gets adjusted accordingly. I beat my best gross score by 4 shots yesterday(got a net 67) & won 1st division. My handicap has come down another shot. I had reduced it by a shot in December, but hadn't played at all or practised since the 19th Dec. I am really chuffed about that! I played with a really good player & another lovely woman who plays off 41 & has played all her life. I had to try to walk slowly. I have a normal non-motorised push buggy. I got around the course pretty well yesterday & wore my new orthotics & had no trouble with them.

When I got in the clubhouse I checked my phone & G had rung.I put my phone on silent when I play golf. I rang & he told me that one of the Vet golfers had committed suicide. I had just sent him a sympathy card as his wife had just died. He shot himself. He had a stroke last year & had not recovered well & had been caring for his sick wife up until then. He was in his 80's & I understand, but his poor family will be shattered & one of themmost probably found him. It was a big shock. Even though it is 35 years since my brother shot himself another suicide still affects me deeply.

B came into the clubhouse not long after I had spoken to G, she saw me & I told her that I had awful news. She has been avoiding any contact with me. She came & sat down next to me & was very upset. We had a bit of a cry together. When she said that there has been too much sadness in the world lately & so much tragedy I agreed. I can't remember exactly what I said but I said that life is to be enjoyed & made the most of & that I was prepared to put our "misunderstanding" behind me & move on. I reached over & gave her a kiss on the cheek. She didn't say anything much, looked like she was going to start arguing with me, but stopped herself. I now feel that I have done what I could to find a way of moving forward & now it's up to her how she treats me.

Today-
I am spending the day at home alone as G has gone off to play in a Vet's tournament. He & I plan on playing more golf at other courses this year. I am having my 2nd FD for the week.
Cheers, Cate.

I wonder, do you lose a lot of calories when you play golf? I guess you walk a lot from a circuit to another, so it's kinda cardio. Then there's the move you do when you swing, guess it can hurt a muscle pretty hard if not done properly. I oughta try golf someday, I really want to try the mini-golf, did you know that mini-golf was invented for women at first, because they were not allowed in the " man's land ". But now that you think about it, it's probably even more fun ( or well it depends of your taste, I just like the idea a lot ^^ )

Playing golf, pushing your own cart uses about 350 calories per hour. It is quite a good calorie burner & has the advantage of the worse you play the more exercise you get. If you try it & play 18 holes you will understand. Mini golf is fun, but is not really golf :)

Didn't know that, I should start golfing again.

Thanks Butterfly!
I struggled through yesterday's fast day & escaped into a book that I had read before & enjoyed. I couldn't seem to relax & was also hungry, but it was more an emotional thing I think, than actual hunger. I had weighed yesterday morning just to see what a day's golf had done & was not surprised to see a gain of 1kg. It often happens. I have been weighing more, just out of interest. My weight fluctuates even more now, but is still going down overall.
Today it was 2kg less than yesterday, after a 500cal day. I will try not to weigh now until Tues(the day after my next FD). I am currently at the weight I had planned on getting back down to. I now have 5kg to go to get back down to my 2007 lowest weight. I'm continuing on....

I will see how I go with 2 FD's a week. It may be that doing a fast the day after golf is too hard. 4hours of golf expends 1440cals & I did not eat any extra on the day. Perhaps that may be the go. More protein maybe?
Anyhow, I had better get out of here. There are so many newbies :) & I want to try to keep up. I remember how important it was to me to get support when I first started.

We have our OS, his GF, 2 of her 3 children & our 3GK's coming up for dinner tonight for the 1st time.
Venison Lasagne, Venison meatballs in tomato sauce, baked salmon, baked vegetables & salad on the menu.G is also going to make a dessert. Maybe a roly poly or a rhubarb sponge?...

Better go. Lots of love xoxo Cate.

You are so great about supporting all the members, new and old. We all really appreciate the effort you put in.

Is 'roly poly on a rhubarb sponge' the real name for a dessert? Here a roly poly is a bug, haha!

Congratulations on hitting you weight goal and on already having another goal lined up!

It's complete silliness that we know logically that weight fluctuates, but that doesn't keep us from feeling bad when it swings up.

Hi Oaks- Thank you! That's sweet of you to say so. Yep roly poly is a dessert. :) G made a rhubarb crumble(gluten-free) which was scrumptious.
Thanks LaMa & Q. We had a good night- the 2 of us, our son D, his 3 kids, his GF T & 2 of her 3 kids. 9 all up. In all 4 "adults", 2x 16 yr olds, 1x 14 yr old, 1x 9 & 1x just turned 8. It was lots of fun. I had met T before but had not got to know her at all. She's very quirky & I think fairly well suited to our son. I hope it works out for them. Her eldest & D's eldest are gf & bf, which is how they got together. They are a tad embarrassed about that, but you have to meet someone somehow.

We ended our night with a game of basketball/keepings off &, of course, I joined in. I now have a dislocated or broken little finger on my right hand. We had a few goes at putting it back in, which horrified all the kids! I think it may be broken, but G is certain it isn't. He couldn't get it back in though. I'll call in at our local hospital, but it's only a small one & they don't have an outpatients or anything. It would be a pain to have to drive into Launceston to wait half the day in ER for a little finger!

Anyhow, have to get moving as I'm taking G to golf as he is playing with a group who come from another club& I know that he will drink too much. I'll maybe come back home & then go back later. It's going to be very hot today! I may stay in town.I'll see.
Bye for now, xoxo Cate

Cate does the finger look deformed and what was the pain type/level when ice was applied ? as ice is a good indicator of a broken bone, if it is applied and it causes a heap of sharp pain. always be careful putting your own dislocations back in, because often you can cause soft tissue to be trapped between the bones which can cause more problems, often breaks heal better and quicker.

It does look deformed, but the ice didn't hurt. If it ever happens again I'll leave well alone. I'm at the docs now. Will report back later.

You are very funny KP. Amputation? I was going to say another word, starting with f, but eek will suffice!
LaMa- all is well....snapped a tendon, 6-8 weeks in a splint, if I'm any chance for it to heal....Oh well! It still was fun....I still am going to play golf.....I can learn to wipe my derriere left-handed surely......it could be worse. The doctor said "It's good that you're active!" I like that.

Glad it isn´t any worse, you just be good and give that hand some rest now or you´ll end up needing surgery. I also like doctors who compliment patients on the healthy things they do!

I'm well wrapped up. I'll try playing a shot on Tuesday when I go out to do the bar for the Vet's. With my finger strapped up I can't actually do any damage. It's more a matter of actually being able to play a shot. I have a feeling I won't be able to.
My doctor is female & quite young. I liked that she said that too, instead of some who have said perhaps I should be "acting my age". They haven't worried me though. I have KP's scarf on.

It's a lovely cooler day today. Having a lazy day- doing some paperwork for the golf club & just pottering about.
