Cate's Diary

I think he does Chef, as he rode it home from work & decided to call in at the pub on the way, instead of leaving it at his house first(only about a 3 min walk away). It probably has just been taken for a ride by someone skylarking, but it is his only mode of transport. He has been so low that his brain just doesn't seem to be able to process even ringing the local police station & reporting it stolen or putting out a description of the bike on FB. Apparently it is very distinctive & has probably been dumped somewhere fairly close by. Hobart is not a big city & he has lots of friends. It was quite an expensive bike & he is trying to dig himself out of debt, due to a recent major wrong decision made while going through a manic stage. He has only recently been diagnosed with Bipolar 2 & has not tried medication yet. It was a case of being kicked when you're down I think.

I'll have to come back later & finish this post.
Cheers, Cate

A) Skylarking? That term is sooooo lost on me, probably because I'm not an Aussie and are only familiar with American terminology.
B) Well, it's not his fault. If I got off work and stopped by the bar (or pub, as you know them) on the way home and somebody stole my car while I was inside having a drink, it wouldn't be my fault - it would still be the fault of some jerk who decided to steal my car.

I understand what you mean by "being kicked when you're down" though. When life gives you lemons, you're supposed to make lemonade. But, when life cuts you up and THEN gives you lemons, the wounds just sting even more.

I agree Chef. It is sooo not his fault. His wounds are definitely stinging though. I hadn't heard that addition to the expression before & I like it. I am currently very much over feeling like I have to try to turn everything negative into something positive. Sometimes what happens bloody sucks! Skylarking? It's more a European word, meaning playing practical jokes or indulging in horseplay. Theft is theft.

I have spent a lovely, quiet day at home (mostly) & have read a book & only done a little housework.
Thanks for your input & support Mystic,LaMa & Chef.

Bummer about his bike. Glad he has a diagnosis and I'm hoping he can get some meds/treatment that work for him.

Reading and little housework sounds like a fine day to me.
Take care!

Thanks Q. I am hopeful & I think he can also see that his life can get better.
I was so tired yesterday & kept falling asleep last night in my chair. Then, when I went to bed I was awake for hours. We have a long day ahead of us as G has an appointment with a Urologist again. He is being monitored as his PSA levels are getting higher(to do with Prostrate), but so far he has not needed intervention. Fingers crossed!

I will try to take care of myself. At the moment we have a lot on, but when we get a chance to have a day at home, we'll take it.
Love to all, xoxo Cate.

I hate that! When you are tired all evening, then can't sleep at night! It seems so wrong!! If I'm too tired to stay awake, how can I not sleep!

Fingers crossed!

Good luck with your husband´s health! About the falling asleep: I´ve had the same thing the last couple of nights. Meh.

G got a really good report as his PSA has come back down again & is within the "normal" range for his age. He has to go back in 6 months. We're both very happy about that as it had been rising each time he got tested.

We had a long, but very productive day yesterday, with a long list of things to do & buy. I got a haircut in there- very short :D We also bought a Bamix as we have missed our old one, so I will be able to blitz things easily again. Yay!

Got a REALLY good night's sleep last night. I woke G up a couple of times & told him to wake me if I fell asleep & then we went to bed at the usual time of about 10.45 & both slept very well.

Today we are doing a function at the golf club for 40 people. They are playing 18 holes of golf & we are doing a bbq for them. They are a plumbing company & drinks are being provided by the company, so I expect to be fairly busy. G will do the bbq, I'll do the bar. They will also have someone driving around with drinks on a cart. I will be glad when we get back home. It's a bit weird because the guy who organised it was meant to drop off the prizes yesterday & the guy we got to meet him at the club rang us to say he hadn't turned up. He has been very efficient & we even have most of the money for the day in the bank already so we were very surprised. When G rang his number to see what happened someone else answered his phone & was told that as of 2 days ago he no longer worked for the company. Hmmm. Very strange. The club can't lose whatever happens, but we were very confident that the day would be a good one & now we're not so sure.

We also have a very busy week-end coming up, with the Mixed Foursomes. G is captain again as the guy who took over the captaincy has never been capable of doing it really & has pulled the pin. I think he is mentally unwell so have some sympathy for him. G has been doing the work mostly anyway, but it's a disappointment still. It's about time someone else stood up & did some more work around the club. It is a volunteer club. The only paid staff we have is a barmaid/cleaner, who does about 5-6 hours per week & a guy who is a green-keeper at another club & does some work on the greens on an hourly basis (probably about 6 hours a week).

It's time to get moving.

Yay for normalcy in all things medical and for proper sleep! The thing with volunteer work is: as long as people know you´ll be there to pick up the slack there is very little chance of anyone else really taking on the responsiblility. Ever.

Glad things were in the 'normal' range!! and that you got a good night's rest!

Do you guys own/run the golf course?
Thank you Mystic for actually making me laugh out loud. No, we just do it for the love of the club.....or we're insane....or both!

LaMa- I know, I know.....we're crazy!
It was a very good day for the club. We are good at what we do. My lovely husband & I work very well as a team. Even though we don't get paid we still get a sense of satisfaction at a job well done.

We are playing golf all week-end, G is Captain so has some work to do, but I am not doing the bar...much.
Love to all, xoxo Cate

Ooh, I forgot to tell you. I am getting a treadmill! For nothing!! I just have to get it here from my sister-in-laws.(60km away) She has given up I think on getting fit or slim, which is sad. I have always wanted a treadmill! If I don't like it I can sell it & give her the money I think, but I'm quite excited about it!

That´s really cool! Hope your SIL will find something better suited to her and you will enjoy having a new toy. Some things aren´t bought for using but for the joy of buying - and later making someone else happy with them. Even if that isn´t apparent at first ;)

Their younger brother gave it to her as he wasn't using it either. G's 2 sisters & his younger brother really struggle with their weight. His older brother & him are much more active. It will be very handy for Winter especially. I think I may need new shoes though as my Nikes are ancient! I really don't much like the look of running shoes. I'm excited about getting it!

Yay for a new treadmill! That's great! I have a love/hate relationship with mine. I'm going to be using it a lot more now though, so hopefully it turns into more of a loving relationship. lol.

Glad I made you laugh. You just are always there, then you talked about staff so I thought, wow, maybe they actually own the place!
That's awesome on the free treadmill! When I move into my new place I will no longer have the convenient 'free' gym I currently have in my condo building so I will be needing to get a treadmill (though since my house is small it will have to go in the basement.

Hi Jen & Mystic, & anyone else reading my diary- I am excited about the treadmill, but today am more in need of a hot, soaking spa bath(we don't have a spa). OUCH. We played in the Mixed Foursomes (golf) at the week-end. That's 18 holes of golf each day. It was cold & windy & I am aching all over. We played as badly this year as we played well last year. Last year we were in C-Grade, this year B-Grade. We lost by only 4 shots. That 4 shots was really on one hole. We were BAD. We still were out there playing golf & that is much better than being home being couch potatoes.

G has gone to work & I am going to be a comparative lazy bones. I might do some gardening - pull up all our tomato plants as they won't ripen now & prepare the garden beds for Winter. Then I will have my lovely soaking bath. I rarely have a bath, but today might be an exception. If I had one right now I think I would curl up & sleep for the day!

Yeah for free treadmills! Definetly get new shoes. I don't care much for there apperance either, but they are a tool to protect your feet and joints while you run. The midsoles compress on the older shoes so even if they look okay they may not have enough cushioning left.

Take it easy and enjoy your day!

I think it's AWESOME you play golf. 1) It's such a relaxing sport - yet, ironically, it is one of the most frustrating things EVER!!! 2) It keeps you on your feet which not only burns calories, but keeps your legs moving which is good for your blood flow, your heart, etc.

So awesome.

Q- I think you're right. I will need new running shoes. Mine are OLD. Buying new runners feels a bit like buying a new vacuum cleaner or washing machine though :( unless of course I managed to find some I actually liked the look of.
I didn't take it easy, but I sure enjoyed my day xoC

Chef- Thank you! Playing golf is good for me on so many levels. I still have high expectations of playing much better than I do & I know I am capable, if only I could be remotely consistent. HA! On the other hand I seem to be able to cope with the frustrations of it & don't let a bad hole carry on to the next. I'm out there in the fresh air, walking about 8.5km each time & thinking about what club to use, the distance, how to play the ball etc. It's great for your body & your mind &, if you don't take it too seriously (I don't) & the company is goo, it's great relaxation. I'm glad I took up the sport!

Yesterday- I was lazy until about 11am & then got stuck into the vegetable garden. I pulled up the tomato plants & picked the green tomatoes off them(green tomato pickles coming up soon) & then decided to have a go at a major job, but only if I had a Stanley knife (box cutters?) A young friend bought my MIL's house & they pulled up all the carpet & sanded the floor back. I asked him if I could have all the old carpet for the garden, as it was wool & he brought it out to us about a month ago plus all the old under-felt. It has been in a big pile down the end of the house, looking ugly.

I moved the birdbaths & lots of pots & cut the carpet up into strips & put it around the raised beds & the house, up to the fence until I could do no more. I could barely stand.
Then I came inside, did some stretching & decided to take our little dog for a walk to get the mail. She loved that.
Then I got home, ran a hot bath with salt & 'lectric soda & soaked in it for about an hour, reading the paper.
Then I got in my PJ's (at 4.00pm!), sat in my recliner & read a book, sipping on a pot of herbal tea.
Last night I went to bed at 9.45 & slept like a log.
