Cate's Diary

Ha ha- funny one V!! Chicken!
I don't have a voice at all, but am maybe a little bit better this morning. Had to go into town for my SIL's birthday & that was quite nice. My SIL seemed chuffed so that was well worth it! Was glad to get home though & had a good night's sleep. Sucking on a throat lozenge enables me to breathe through my nose so I don't cough. Coughing REALLY hurts!

We're about to head into town. My LH's golf should be called off as it's raining & very windy. I'll pop in & see Mum(try not to breathe on her), do a little shopping & be home by lunch-time & have a lazy day again. Being sick is playing havoc on my "lose a few more kg by Oct" program! We go to Darwin in 4 weeks from this Saturday.
Anyhow, better scoot!
Cheers, xo Cate

Don't worry Cate, I'm not judging you on the sheep stuff, I was just genuinely curious. A lot of dog breeds have tails docked for different reasons (such as that the tail of a specific breed is prone to breaking due to it's design). Tails are docked and dew claws removed from puppies without sedation (though within a few days of being born so the pain receptors aren't fully developed yet (or something to that degree)). I had an inkling that drenching had something to do with bugs or the sort.

I'm sorry you are not feeling all that much better yet. Take it easy and hopefully it will pass soon!

I hadn't thought you were being anything but curious Mystic, but maybe was anticipating someone else's reaction to it. I used to think it was cruel, until I saw animals that had been fly-blown. Our little Australian Silky Terrier had her tail docked & I was absolutely horrified. It's now banned in Australia thank goodness. We had chosen her when she was only a couple of weeks old & I didn't even think that anyone did that any more or I would have said not to. It saddens me a little when I see her wag her little stump :(
Thanks for your well wishes. I am taking it very easy & feeling very lazy! Looking forward to feeling well again xo Cate

We had a Silky terrier. He was the biggest pain in the butt, but I miss him. Smart, fearless, and always into something. He was a rescue so we didn't dock his tail.

This is Finley.

Get well soon!

Thanks Q. I am feeling a bit better today & went for a walk through the bush to get some fresh air into my lungs. Finley was a cutie! They are gorgeous dogs, but can be a right pain. Our vet gave me some good advice early on re making sure I'm the dominant one & she's a very well-behaved little thing. I'm her dog boss, that's for sure! She was the runt of the litter & still weighs less than 2kg & is very fit & healthy at almost 14 years of age.

Went downhill I'm afraid! I knew I had a chest infection when I woke this morning & my throat was very sore. I went to the doctor's surgery & was told there were no appointments today or tomorrow, with any doctor & then it would be the week-end & no surgery. I just stood there stunned, said "well, I'm buggered then- I have a chest infection & feel terrible" & she relented & put me in to see a doctor. I was very polite. I waited less time than usual & was only in there 5 mins. I know what antibiotic works for me & always need a repeat, so got one.

I'll pop back in the morning as our OS is about to arrive with the littlies as he needs us to take them to their school social as he has to go in the opposite direction to pick up our older GS from Javelin practice. He's just arrived! Cheers, Cate

Feeling a little better again this morning. Night time is the worst. It looks like being a good day, so we'll get outside & get some wood. I love being out in the fresh air & it's a good excuse. I must buy some good hiking boots soon as I have the urge to go Bushwalking more. I can wear them in on our block & want a pair that look good enough for our next trip. Yes, I am starting to think about our next overseas trip. I have no idea where to yet. It feels so good to be putting Winter behind us for another year! Mind you, it sleeted yesterday!
I don't think I'll be losing anything more before our trip to Darwin, the way I'm going, although 10 days on antibiotics should help (ie no alcohol.) Being sick has seen me hungrier than usual.

Time to get moving. I have been up for hours already as I woke all clogged up & had to get vertical!
Bye for now, xo Cate

My LH didn't feel up to getting any wood so we had a bit of a lazy day. He's got the bug now, but not as bad, yet anyway! Hope he doesn't get any worse. I talked him into going for a walk through the bush this afternoon & that felt good. I have felt dreadful since the sun went down. It's amazing how much you go downhill at night with a cold!

Thank you Q & Jen. We had a rough night. My poor LH ended up sleeping in a chair & I coughed & coughed half the night. Feeling very tired today & have to go into Launceston today for our uniform presentation for the 8-ball Nationals. At least you usually feel better during the day. Will be home before it chills off too much.

Even though neither of us felt really good yesterday we had a productive day. My LH got "fitted" for his new golf clubs. (He's getting them for his 65th birthday in November)& I bought the Scarpa hiking boots I have been eyeing off for months. They were reduced by $90! I can't wait to go hiking in them. I'll wear them around our block for a while to break them in. They're Goretex, not leather so it won't take long & they felt great as soon as I put them on. This is them-
We both got a good night's sleep, with only one mad coughing fit about 3am so feeling quite a bit better today. I suggested we go get some wood just to get some exercise. It doesn't have to be for long.No fire lighting though as it wouldn't be good to inhale any smoke. I always stay away from fires(smoke anyway) & have to leave that part to him.

Our YS now has the bug too :( He visited when I 1st had it) I hope it doesn't make him more miserable!
Our niece has it too. (We were at the 60th with her)
Apparently half the district has it. I can't take the blame for that though. :)
Anyhow, much love to all, xo Cate
PS My weight has stabilised. I haven't lost any more, but haven't gained any either. Feeling comfortably slim.(def. not thin or skinny but I don't want to be either of those anyway.)

Had a neutral day today. Did some positive stuff (planting herb & vegetable seeds) and took rubbish to the tip :( visited Mum, bit of shopping, library......felt fairly ordinary- alright grumpy really (still not well!) Nothing to report really...

Hello my lovely internet mum :beating:

It is really good to be back. I really have missed you. Hopefully i'll be strong enough to stick around this time.

I'm loving the boots. They look so cool :) I am a scout and explorer leader and we do quite a bit of hiking. We live by the moors and it is stunning walking up there.
You can get a fitbit and track your step. My longest hike was 30,000!!!

Hope you're feeling better my lovely.
Xoxoxo

"took rubbish to the tip" translated to Texan is "took junk to the dump". I assume anyway. I know what rubbish means, but I've never heard tip used that way. I assume it's a landfill. It reminded me of a poem. I don't remember who wrote it or to whom, but I have always remembered it because as a child I was amused and amazed at how childish a grown up could be.

They say your poems are garbage
but I say balderdash
Garbage would suggest some meat
I say your poems are trash

Now get better and try out those sweet boots!

Oh Q, you made me laugh & that's no mean feat at the moment. Talk about grumpy! This bug has got me down. Our tip is a combination of landfill, but mostly re-cycling. It has won all sorts of awards for how it's set up, but it's still not my favourite job. We don't have a collection service, living in the bush.
Each time I visited my sister in Baltimore I came home using American terms. I pick up languages & colloquialisms easily apparently & it aggravated many people back here, when I started saying trash instead of rubbish & so on. There are so many differences & it is crazy. We do all speak English don't we? Trash/rubbish, sidewalk/footpath, soda/soft drink, gas/petrol, cookie/biscuit......the mind boggles at the differences. I knew the words from tv, so used them in the US & it used to annoy my sister as she really missed Australia & wanted to hear the Australian words. I must be a sponge for language. Since our trip (vacation) last year I am still thinking of the Italian or French words for things.
I must, really must, start to get better very soon & get to put those new hiking boots to the test. Having a bad head cold can leave you feeling down & I know I'll come right soon. I have had it for 2 weeks now....
Anyhow, no-one wants to hear whinging, so I will go, xoxo Cate.

We do all speak English don't we?

My fluency has been called into question on many occasions. Though I'm tempted to mess with you and start inventing words and tell you they're common American slang. At times, I'm evil.

Really sorry you've been under the weather for so long. Hopefully you're over the worst and can soon rock out in your new shoes. For the first time in several years I managed to wear out a non-shoe piece of clothing: I need a new belt.

You are very cheeky V & I am happy to say that I am getting my spark back & found that very amusing. I am a very trusting soul, so probably would have believed it, if you had "spun me a yarn." (I went back & added the inverted commas!) I love language & the variances are hilarious. I couldn't believe that people had trouble understanding me in the US, but felt pretty chuffed whenever someone asked me where I came from & I answered Australia, &, without exception, I heard back "Oh Australia. I have always wanted to go to Australia. " Nice!
I also need a new belt. It is definitely a non scale victory for me, that my belt is too big & bulky & I am going to buy another very soon. I have NEVER been a belt wearer, but now find I need to, as I am wearing more closely fitting clothes & find them much more flattering than the loose fitting ones I have worn for decades. Soon I might even be wearing more colour! just kidding...I am wearing more colour already, after decades of black, black & more black! :D

It feels so good to know that I am on the mend. At last!It has been 2 weeks :(
Cheers, Cate
