Cate's Diary

Woke up this morning & my foot wasn't hurting much. Of course, not walking on it helps & I think my feet have been getting inflamed as the day goes on. I had decided to spend the day at home on my own, but our OS just texted me, asking if I want to go the St Patrick's day celebrations in Westbury, with him & the 3 GK's so I'm going. Nice! I had better go change out of my trackie dackies soon. I'll wear my most supportive sneakers- my Rockports. I'm tempted to buy some new Nikes before our trip. I am determined to go on this trip, even if I'm limping all the way!
On my 6th day without wine! Wee Hoo!
Bye for now, xo Cate

Is there a brace or something you could use to help with the foot? I was having ankle problems last week and a brace helped some.

Anyway, enjoy St. Patrick's Day. Have a little corned beef if you like without feeling too guilty. :)

I'll check out the alternatives this week, after I have the x-ray. Another adjustment to my orthotics might be the go. My foot is much better when I wear my old Nikes, with the orthotics in them, so cushioning really helps. Hopefully I won't need surgery :(
I don't normally celebrate St Pat's day, but it was an excuse for a bit of fun, with my lovely son & grand-kids!

Hey Cate - great work on all your days wine-free ! ( how many now?)...

sorry to hear about that foot still bothering you , I've been using good-quality insoles now for a couple years - they really seem to help , and yes, good quality sneakers/runners also good-but if you plan for new ones for the trip-buy them soon-so you have at least a couple weeks wearing them to break them in. ;)

So sorry to hear about your friend in Melbourne who passed away , and your other friend who is so ill , life is so short and precious , it is so wise to make the best of things each day, and live to enjoy the here & now .... I am glad to hear you have started your packing for your trip...it will be such an amazing holiday...

I laughed to hear about your breathalizer , we have stop-checks up here too , bit of a bother when you are tired & just trying to get home and you have to stop for them, but they do help keep the impaired folks off the roads, so guess it's a necessary evil. ;)

Hope your St.Pat's day with son/grand-kids is fun , hope the foot is better in time for the vacation ! ... keep up your wine-resolution, you are rolling !

cheers, Maryann

Hi Maryann, your visits to my diary always make me-
a) feel good &
b) smile :)
The wine resolution was for one week &, right now, I am enjoying sitting in my chair, sipping on a Cabernet Merlot :D
I have spent the day in Launceston & am exhausted!!!! The wine is not sensational, by any means, but it is the ritual I enjoy as much as anything I think. Maybe.....
I will wait to see what is wrong with my foot exactly before I buy new shoes. If it's inflammation mainly I might try a herbal 'remedy' but if it's not damaged at all I'll go back to the podiatrist I think & get the orthotics adjusted again. After Wednesday, I think I may have to nurse my foot along by maybe not playing golf. :(
I'll see.
Thanks for caring sweetie. Our other friend has also died & we want to go to his funeral. we are waiting to hear when it is. we will have to fly to Melbourne & get a lift with someone & maybe stay at someone's place for one night. It will be one hell of a wake!!
Bye for now xoxo Cate

Hey Cate- the diary visits are mutual my friend ;) - you always cheer me up too.

mmm.... Merlot , red-wine , it's actually good for you , the skins have an antioxidant, but , like most things, it's best in moderation ... so stick to a glass gal, stop BEFore the whole bottle is empty ... lol. :) .... but so glad you made it through your one week resolution .

Hope your foot improves, resting it from golf , so that it is better for your trip sounds wise...

So sorry to hear about your friends passing away , a wake sounds a lot more positive than the fairly sad and serious funerals we usually have here , my brothers' mother in law is quite ill in hospital right-now, she is in her ealy 80's...and we are worried ... I hope you do manage the trip to Melbourne, it is so meaningful , both for yourself , and for the family of the person passed to be there for the service.

take care Cate,
xx oo Maryann

luv it Cate ! great plan.... ha ha ha :biggrinjester: :smilielol5:

ps - Canadian wine bottles are 750ml....hmmm....maybe us Canuk's are the wino's ???? .... lol ;)

Ooh no. A bottle is 750ml & MY half is 375ml. Aussies are winos, for sure. We must be, as I think ONLY 375ml & all bottles should be a litre :blush5: xo

My sister and her husband have the wine thing going on too. They do well all day and have a nice healthy dinner, and then pound more calories of wine than they should. They know this, but they like wine too much.

Hmmm. I think I might just change the subject. :blush5: The wine thing? I do love having a glass or 2 of wine at the end of the day & it does relax me. I guess it's my drug of choice -legal & in moderation :) I know it's loaded with calories though :(

We're flying to Melbourne tomorrow & I am actually looking forward to the funeral. I know that sounds a little crazy, but our friend was a crazy guy and we will be catching up with such a lot of our old friends that it should be a very sociable occasion. Death is so much a part of life & going to a funeral is an important part of the process. I rang a friend last night, to see if she was going to the funeral & she isn't. Mont was her ex-husband. She did tell me that another friend is travelling down on her own, so I rang last her & she was tickled pink to hear from us & is picking us up from the airport & we are now having lunch with her & her ex before the funeral. We were such a large group of very close friends & there has been so many changes in that group, but most are in touch with one another in one form or other. We have remained friends through thick & thin with all of them. We may not speak often but when we are in touch it is lovely.
I'll still eat ok, even at the wake. I'm sure I'll drink more than I should but will try to be careful. It will be a big day. I have no idea where we'll stay.
Bye for now xo Cate

Hey Cate , hope the wake is good bonding time with your dear old friends,
it is so true that gatherings for funerals are a bit bitter-sweet , so good to see friends and family you haven't seen for so long, but so sad that the occasion that brings you together is the loss...
... I hope the reminiscing and re-connecting goes well, and you come back all rejuvenated and ready to get set for your holiday... ;)
PS - hope that sore foot is improving...

Thanks Maryann. The funeral was good. We caught up with old friends, some we hadn't seen for decades. I'll come back tomorrow & tell you more about it xoxo Cate

Hey Cate, just catching up on some diaries. Sorry to see your foot is still bugging you - such a pest hey. And you are enjoying your vino again :) I'm absolutely dying for a glass of Rose - Rose is my fave!!! Are you still killing it with the golf?? You must be a pro by now!

Keep well hun x

Te he Mands- a pro? I think not!! Still loving it though! I'll never be great, but I'm not this bad, but still thought this funny-

Am feeling somewhat under the weather today. It's a combination of the travel, the emotion of the funeral, the stink of Melbourne & all the fragrances, having the grand-kids this morning, our older son being stressed as his ex-wife has rung child support, my MIL being very demanding & also losing the plot, my Mum today was in La La land & I am really tired.
Only 29 days to our trip.
I really NEED this trip. We both do, but it is really hard not to stress about everyone & what might happen while we're away. 4 old girls being left! Our 2 old dogs are going to kennels.....
OK I won't delete this. I'll share my panic as well as my positivity.
We are all a mixture & I am no exception!
I'm slinking off before I really tell you how I'm feeling right now, xoxo Cate

Hey Cate,
Good to catch up on your diary...when I last visited, you were in the middle of wine-free days...good job on the abstenance (spelling?)..anyway, you get the idea! Then to look forward to a funeral...you are right, you Aussi's do have different way of looking at things! I'm glad it went well! So, you are getting ready to go to Europe! I actually go to Paris, France next weekend and will be there for a week...2 days on vacation and 2 work days. I'm planning to go to the flea market and go for a long run early in the morning on the Champs Elysees...it's where I started and finished the Paris marathon back in 1999...fond memories!
Thanks for always being here Cate...you help me more than you know!
Sarah

Hi Sarah, perhaps I make you feel sane! Aussies do seem to have an irreverent take on life, I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the mostly Irish heritage! Often funerals are like a reunion. Sure, it's sad when lives are cut short & we will miss the people that die, but also it is often a chance to show respect & love & to express & re-evaluate our own lives & values.
Paris....*sigh* it almost seems too good to be true!
Thank you Sarah, for being so sweet xoxo Cate

Cate you REALLY need that holiday hey? We all get our moments and its good to talk about it so it comes out. Tomorrow you will feel better and be positive again.

Hang in there hun xx

I know Mands. I really do need this holiday, but REALLY must start making lists, so that I feel like I'm getting properly prepared for it. I decided not to start organising stuff too early, but have left it later than would normally have me feeling relaxed about it all. I'll get there! I DO feel better today, than I did yesterday. It does look like I have a stress fracture under my right foot & my doc wants me to go for an ultrasound to be sure. I rang and made an appointment for the ultrasound, plus the podiatrist to have my orthotics adjusted to cushion the spot. It actually is not hurting as much, which is great, but that could be because I have not been exercising very much at all :)() & consequently my weight was up this morning. I have been avoiding the scales, like the plague! Have had a very good eating day & did over 10km on my stationary bike :)
We are off to 'town' tomorrow to have my car serviced.
Bye for now, xoxo Cate
PS Edit- My doctor thinks I am very organised, bless her!
Asked for a flu jab & got that today
