Cate's Diary

Hi Cate - many thanks for stopping-by my diary & for the support - I can use all the help I can get !

~ your bike sounds like a strong habit in your life these days - making exercise part-of lifestyle is something I've noticed on many posts on WLF - so am making an effort on this myself too.

~ so funny that you are in spring "down under" - with planning planting .....while we are into early-fall here in Canada- our Canada geese are starting to gather for their migration -honking overhead on many mornings - the "sound" of fall for me here... I like the cool-crisp fall days - great for "fresh" outside walks.

~ your trip plans sound wonderful - Rome & Paris for turning 60 is definately a perfect way to mark the milestone.... my hubby&I have done a bit of travel - and have been to Rome & Paris a few years back - I loved both - the history, the atmosphere, the people-all amazing - will this be your first time there ?

cheers,

Maryann .

Hi Maryann, You’re welcome! Thanks for your return visit to my diary. I view posts in my diary as a personal visit & love it when people do post in it. I think we all need support & I’m no exception. Incorporating exercise into my daily life has been a slow addition for me, but I feel it is almost the most important aspect of maintenance. I don’t feel at all right if I haven’t ridden my bike. I will have to switch my exercise around soon as I want to tone my arms a bit more. I can’t imagine wearing sleeveless tops until I do. I might start doing weights again soon I think & maybe a bit less on the bike (or just extra with the weights!)

I could travel happily at the weight I am but would like to drop a few more kilos so that I have some leeway on the trip. Eating wheat free may be difficult but I will. I don’t miss having a bloated stomach!

I have not been to Europe at all & am so excited to be doing so for my 60th. I have 7 months of anticipation! My husband travelled there with friends when he was young.

Our younger son is in Canada working in our niece’s restaurant in British Columbia. It looks beautiful there! I don’t know how he’ll cope with winter though as he hates the cold.

I’m off to town today & am taking Mum to lunch. I had better get on the move.

xo Cate

Feeling great after doing 10.25km on my bike :driving:& then starting back on my weights, after a break of about 6 months. I am determined to be slimmer & fitter by the time I head off on my trip. Spring is a great time to really get moving! I feel like I’m brushing off the winter doldrums & feel energised. I LOVE spring!!

Xoxo Cate

~I was so full of energy yesterday that I also took the dogs for a walk & even fitted in a little run. I’m not so full of beans today but my LH & I are going out for another 9 holes of golf & then I will only be one short of getting my handicap.

Our GS stayed last night & is still in bed as he’s on holidays & is a teenager now! I’ll cook him bacon, eggs & mushrooms when he surfaces & then we’ll shower & head off to golf. Our OS is picking him up this morning at about 10.30-11am. We had a lovely time with him last night & all went to bed about 10.30. I have been waking before 7am as the sun streams through a high window into our room. Daylight savings will come in at the end of this month & the days will seem so much longer. I LOVE our summers here as they don’t get TOO hot.

I am not tiring of my bike at all but am going to switch my exercises around a bit. I really enjoyed doing some weights yesterday but must make sure I don’t overdo them. Exercise is so addictive & I have the bug now!

~Lots of love to all, xoxo Cate

Hi Kate , :seeya:

~ Your spring-time there sounds so lovely - I am envious - and although I love the fall-time here on the Canadian praries...I do also remember that they bring winter trailing behind them - eeek.

~ You mention one son is now living in BC Canada - some parts are fairly mild - the coast-Vancouver - barely gets snow -and when they do- it quickly melts in a day or two, out on the Alberta praries (where I live ) - we can get winter cold-snaps - stretches of -20- -30c .....reaaallly cold - those are definately stay-in days.....house, to car, to work, back to house...brrr.... oy...don't want to even think about it....just focus on the lovely fall days happening here now .....had a very nice noon-break walk outside today, and reading tonite about your bike & golfing...am feeling inspired, and plan to fire-up the treadmill tonite a bit while watching TV.

~ I noticed in your signature that you lost a lot of weight using Cohen's in 2007 ( I don't know much about that diet - I will have to read up a bit - sounds like it was a very good success for yu ).

~ hope you have a lovely weekend Cate....(keeping your eye on the prize of Rome & Paris .....yay ! )

~ I bought some supplies for cabbage soup - planning to try it for lunch/supper thru the weekend ( as hubby is off to a Men's golf weekend- I can cook whatever I want- without him whining that it's too healthy.... lol

cheers to all,

Maryann C.

AA run, Cate went on a run!! Whoop whoop! She's "full of beans"!! And now she's doing weights! Go Cate go! That cruise is coming up fast, and she's going to totally rock it!!
Sarah

Hi Maryann, Our son is in Golden & I think it gets REALLY cold there too. I don’t know how long he’ll last when it does. He is loving Canada & is making many new friends, working hard & having a ball. I’m glad I inspired you to exercise as I ended up not doing much except looking after the grandkids. I didn’t even get on my bike once! I’ll have to make up for it this week, although I think I have caught a cold off my GD. That’s what comes of ‘Eskimo kisses’ with the grandkids. It’s a nan thing that I have going with them. They are so sweet!

Thanks for your visit, xo Cate

Hi Sarah, It wasn’t much of a run, but I did race my grand-daughter in the park on Saturday & she couldn’t catch me! I feel like I have had a lazy week-end, but in truth I walked a lot with the kids & raced them but still didn’t do as much as my new usual. I think we’ll go out again today to play golf as I feel a little sloth-like. There will be no cruising on our trip (it just doesn’t appeal to me ) but I am REALLY excited about it. Half the fun of a holiday is the anticipation! I have 7 months of anticipation!! NICE. Cheers xo Cate

I do feel a little under the weather today but that could also be from the exposure to some strong women’s perfumes yesterday at the golf club. I helped out at a tournament- did a little bar work & some dishes etc. I feel like doing NOTHING today & feel like a great sloth so will kick myself up the derriere & go play golf. It’s overcast & windy & quite cool, but I’ll put some thermals on.

First I’ll drink some more coffee!

Lots of love to all, xoxo Cate

Edited-

9 holes of golf played- CHECK!

Hi Cate ,

-thanks for stopping by my diary - the support is so helpful ! .....think I might have quit by now without you lovely folks cheering me on ...

- so neat that your son is in Golden - I was thru there many years ago - so beautiful - tons of moutains I think ? - they get heaps of snow in winter .... - I hope he likes it - such a gorgeous place...although it must be hard for you that he is off so far , he's so lucky to get to spend some time living there.....

- & you make me smile - don't kid yourself that spending time with grandkids isn't exercise - ! I have a 2yr. old nephew who gives me a major work-out chasing him & keeping up with him each time he visits.... you go Nana !

- glad to hear you made it out for the 9 holes of golf - I was on our local course on Sunday aftn. (we are lucky enuf to have a fairly decent 9hole course here right in the small town I live in) - a friend from the city came out & we played ( despite my sore knee from yard-work on Saturday) - but I am so glad I pushed myself to do it too - yu are so right that a day Without exercise is just missing something...felt so good to be out in the sunshine & fresh air ....am glad I went & am glad U went too !

cheers Cate , hope your week is super,

...Maryann .

Hi Maryann, You're right of course. Keeping up with young kids is exercise! I have actually felt sick the last couple of days & have had a very unsettled stomach. I was going to go out & play golf with the women today as I now have my handicap (the biggest ) but had a rough night & felt very queasy when I got up, so am having a quiet day at home instead. I will push myself to hop on my bike a bit later. I did yesterday(10km again), even though I really didn't feel like it at all. Once upon a time I would have just turned into a great big sook & done nothing- now I HAVE to exercise. Cheers, Cate

Oh boy, I do feel under the weather today. It may be a bug I think. I can't think straight really. The super that we cashed in for our holiday is in our account today, but I don't feel up to ringing the travel agent so will leave that until tomorrow. My LH & I may go into town on Friday & see her, rather than ringing. Perhaps I'll email her now quickly & she can organise a couple of quotes. We could now pay for our travel insurance & airfares & hopefully accommodation in Paris. Typing that made me smile. I think I might go do the dishes & the washing & get comfie in my recliner for an hour or 2. I can't imagine wanting anything for lunch today. I just had toast for breakfast as I couldn't face anything else. That's very unusual for me!

Lots of love to all, xoxo Cate

Hi Cate - sorry to hear you are under-the-weather....hope that bug passes you by quickly...

~ mmm...smiling thinking of Paris - the city of light - you are so lucky to be going .... my hubby & I actually got lost one evening there on our trip - had a bit too much wine with our supper - then werent' sure which way back to the hotel from the quaint little restaurant we had found .....(Paris streets are quite windy & confusing - ) we walked for quite a bit - then we realized...just look up - ! Eiffel tower is a land-mark you can see from pretty much everywhere in Paris - just keep it in your sights & you'll keep your bearings...too funny..

~ I am just back from spending aftn in city shopping & errands - am tired - but reading your post perked me up- will do a bit on treadmill now before hitting the sack, just had a bowl of nice low-cal home-made veggie soup- hit the spot.

cheers Cate - hope U are better soon ,

Maryann

AHope you feel better soon Cate...I think my husband has the same bug...he said he was on the toilet all day...must be going around. Take care of yourself, and rest, drink lots of water(wash that stuff out of your system!) and listen to your body...easy does it! Like Maryann said, you gotta keep focused on Paris and how great that cruise is going to be!!

Good choices to you,

Sarah

I’m feeling much better thanks Maryann & Sarah. I’m still not certain whether I had a bug or ate some wheat accidentally at the week-end, but whatever it was I’m much better. I’m no longer bloated & feeling yucky.

I know it doesn’t matter but it’s not a cruise that we are going on. I HATE the idea of a cruise. Friends love them but the thought of being on a boat any longer than you need to gives me the creeps! We’ll be flying to Rome, staying there an extra 4 nights, then doing an Intrepid tour from Rome to Paris & staying a total of a week in Paris & then flying home. It will be a bit over a month all up. I’m still really excited about it & will ring the travel agent right now!

Cheers, xoxo Cate

Hey Cate, glad to hear you are on the mend & feeling better,

...just wanted to say many many many thanks for your very kind support on Tuesday ( it was really tuff for me after hearing my friends comments- you really gave me a boost- thankyou.) :Angel_anim:

Your one-month sightseeing trip from Rome thru to Paris sounds amazing....so many beautiful places to see in Italy & France....you'll have to fill us in on all the amazing details.... Vatican? Leaning Tower of Piza? Venice?..... Versaille? , Nice ? ..... been so long since I've been to Europe...getting nostalgic just thinking about it.... hope the planning is going well.

..& I think your plan to squeeze-off a bit of weight before going is perfect, then you can really enjoy some of that wonderful Italian and French food & not worry - Just Enjoy !

cheers,

Maryann

Hi Maryann, You're very welcome. I'm looking forward to your 'friend' changing her tune about your future. Hopefully your example will inspire her to make changes as well. I'm so excited about our trip next year. I have a feeling this excitement will last the whole 7 months! I will lose some weight before so I can enjoy the food more but will have the restriction of eating wheat-free, which I'm sure will limit the calories somewhat while I'm away. I don't know what my chances are of being easily able to find gluten-free bread in France & Italy! I'll have the occasional sweet treat though. Cheers, xo Cate

Yesterday- Had the 2 younger GK's for the day & we set off in the morning on a long walk & took a picnic lunch with us, which we ate up in a tree house. That tree-house has been there for years & was built by our 2 sons. I had never been up it before. I would have been too scared I would break the steps before. Not much stops me now!! We had a very active day, including a Sky Wars adventure in the bush. I had such fun! I know I have said lots of times how much I love being a grandma but........

I LOVE BEING A GRANDMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel like my stomach is back to feeling normal again & have eaten salads the last few days. Raw food makes you feel much better I reckon. Well- it does me anyway. Lean meat or fish with salad & fresh fruit. They are my staples.

Lots of love, xo Cate

~I’m not going to type in my diary as often for a while, so don’t worry if I’m absent. I’m still about. Cheers, xoxo Cate

AHello my lovely

I am so so sorry that i haven't been around. I feel really bad. I have let you down and I'm sorry.

I hope you don't stay away for long :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Loves ya :beating:

Sarah-thanks for that. I don't think I can stay away really. Sometimes I get bored with myself! xo Cate

Kate- Please edit that post. You have NOT let me down & I would hate you to think that way sweetie! You are a lovely friend & I was missing you but that does not mean that you were letting me down or should feel bad. NO WAY!! Love you too hun, xoxo Cate

I am eating more like I used to again- less carbs (starchy carbs) & more salads & am feeling so much lighter & better. I am so glad that winter is over!

I rode 15.5km on my exercise bike yesterday (10.2 in the morning & 5.3 in the afternoon.) Also read 50 shades darker. Yes- it's trashy writing, but still a bit of titillation, which doesn't go astray at my age(any age really.) I hate porn, but don't mind a bit of erotic fiction every now & then.

Off to Tai Chi today & trying to get a doc's ap't as I have run out of my BP meds. Whoops. I have to try to sweet talk the pharmacist into giving me a couple of days worth until I get my script. Either that or I'll call in at the doc's & see if I can sneak in between patients. They gave me a 3.30 Wed ap't but our OS wants me to mind the 2 littlies then as the older GS has a parent/teacher ap't. Wish me luck!

Cheers, xo Cate.

edited- PS Just rang the medical centre & sweet-talked myself into an 11.30 ap't. YAY!.

Hi Cate - no worries if you take a posting-break - you so deserve one ! ( you've been on this site since' 07?) - goodness, while I really value & appreciate your support & wisdom, and really enjoy reading your adventures- you so totally have earned some "time-off".....

Your trip planning sounds so fun - a whole month - Italy/France - I can't think of a nicer way to celebrate 60.

The walk/pic-nic with your grandkids sounds like it was a hoot - what a great way to get some exercise in - by having fun ! ...and so rewarding that you are able to do these things with them- I'll bet they just luv their Spunky-energetic gran !

Good work on the 15.5k on bike & less carbs - the vacation ready body will be in-shape in no time at all....

PS ( some of my girlfriends have said they really luvd 50shades too....I'll have to check it out....a good romance with a bit of "steam" always fun >...)

cheers Cate ,

Maryann .
