Cate's Diary

Hi Cate! I'm so glad R has a new puppy, pets are wonderful. I want to get a cat eventually.

Getting a new house ready for sale sounds very exciting, who is D, if you don't mind me asking?

Good job for sticking to cals!! I find that's the only thing that works for me as well. Do you have any more weight to lose or are you in maintenance?

Puppy spam is the best type :)
It certainly is. Puppy spam coming up....
Kudos to you for getting right back on track without falling off the wagon completely! I wouldn't say no to a bit of puppy spam either :)
Thanks, LaMa. I didn't fall far, so it's easier to get back up xo Puppy spam coming up.....

Hi, Misty. D is our older son. Sticking to cals by logging everything every day is the only way for me too I think. I have about 10 kg to lose to get back to where I am happy, & a few more to get back to my lowest.

Such a contagious little puppy smile! So happy R and the puppy found each other!! That's wonderful you only have 10kg to go! Wow!!

Thanks, Vic & M. He is well & truly attached to him already but is a little anxious about him as well. It will be great when he is fully vaccinated & R has his driver's licence.
M I could lose more than 10 kg, but I am trying to be realistic. You are probably aiming for a lower weight. My weight bounced up a bit this morning, which surprised me as I was expecting a drop. It really is like a yo-yo. I'll have another couple of good days & weigh again. No, actually I'll weigh again tomorrow. I feel a bit clogged up & am looking forward to a grocery delivery this morning. I have lots of yummy fruit & veg arriving, including fresh cherries. I had a little bit of rice last night & it never sits well in my stomach.

I know what you mean about the yo-yo weight. It makes sense about aiming for a good weight at first and then adjusting once you get there if you like. I think I'll do this, too. I hate when I eat foods that make me retain water weight, but at least you know that is probably what is happening. Fresh cherries sound wonderful!!

Mmm, fresh cherries are hard to beat!
They sure are. It's funny, but I never crave chocolates, but I sure crave cherries! My delivery should be here in about an hour!

It's frustrating, G just loves rice, but I could happily give it up as I hate how it makes me feel. It settles in my stomach like a lump of lead.

Do you like quinoa, Cate? If so, you could have G make you some and measure out portions and freeze them so you can quickly defrost them to use instead of rice. It lasts up to 8 months in the freezer, and is a complete protein, and is way less fattening than rice. I have trouble with white rice, too. Brown rice doesn't affect me like that though, and it's almost a complete protein, if I remember right. Oh, and also I make big batches of steamed summer squash or green beans to pour sauces over instead of rice, and there is always riced cauliflower, though I like it mashed a lot better.

Hope you are happily munching away on cherries by now!

I will do that, M with quinoa. G usually cooks 1/4 quinoa & 3/4 rice but didn't this time. I will ask him to cook me up some quinoa the same way he does rice & I'll freeze some. That's a good idea, thanks.

I had a good day yesterday. G played golf out at the local course. He will probably play more often now, but as long as he okays it with me first about extra games I am quite happy. I will worry less about him driving home. It's 15 km rather than 60 each way. Much better! He seems to be happy with his decision. The ex-captain who gave us both such a hard time was there & G said hello to him on passing & used his real name, which no-one uses (love that G) instead of his nickname & kept on walking. G is such a better person than him & I think most people know that. He is not nasty. He is able to move on now, which is great, but he has learned a very valuable lesson as well I hope. We shouldn't let people walk over us.

Our son, D,(edited- thanks LaMa) came for dinner last night after work & we had a pleasant few hours. He has had a lot of interest in his house & it is quite exciting. He is really grateful for our help with getting his house ready.

We think we'll drive down to see R on Thursday & stay for a couple of nights & be there to stay with his puppy while he goes for his driving test on Saturday & then head back home after lunch.

MUCH better. That's a big difference.

Love to hear that. Let's hope it sticks.

D, I think? Great to hear he's getting a lot of reactions: let the bidding war commence!

Thanks, LaMa. I think it will be much better from now on. G has always been a person who doesn't speak out even when someone is nasty to him, but I think that has changed. I hope so. We need to call out bullies & nastiness. I edited my last post. I come close to putting full names often these days :blush5: but think it's wiser to just put initials, preferably the correct ones ;)

Glad your weight came back down and you are back on track! So much good news, too! It sounds like both your sons are doing so well now with the house sale and puppy, and I love that you can pop over for a few nights to see the new puppy and catch up. Does Archie like puppies? And so wonderful that G feels comfortable at his old club now. He's so clever calling the bully by his real name. Such a good metaphor that shows the guy that G knows who he really is.

Thanks, M. Down another half a kg this morning too, so that's a great incentive to stay away from the "treats" including wine. I feel R's equilibrium is back in balance now that he has a dog again. He's a 3.5 hr drive from our house now so we won't be visiting as often as we used to. Hopefully, he'll get his licence on Saturday & be able to visit us more often, without having to depend on anyone else to bring him up. When he lived in Hobart it was about a 2.45 hr drive. Arch is tolerant of puppies & sometimes loves to play with them. It will be interesting to see.
I loved that G called the bully/creep by his first name, which no one uses. I asked him if he called G by his old nickname back & he had to think. He said, "I think he just nodded". Well played, G.
I went for another walk in the afternoon yesterday, which was good. Arch is having a haircut this morning & then this afternoon I have an appointment in town to see my cardio. I wish it could be a phone appointment, but I don't think I had better try to change it as I have already changed it twice I think.

Hi Cate, so glad your weight is going steadily down and your knee is happy with all the exercise - I agree, such great incentive! I hope R passes his test and can come visit you guys more. G's response to the bully sounds like something from an old movie where the main character is sophisticated and the scene emphasizes his high status Carrie Grant style.

I imagine one of the safest places to go if you have to go indoors in public is a specialist doctor's office where they don't see Covid patients, but do sterilize the heck out of everything. We throw our clothes in the wash after we get home from having sat in a public place now. Not sure if that helps really, it just feels better to be on the safer side.

Anyway, I hope you are very proud of yourself with all the great eating and exercise!

Hi, M. That made me smile. So much blokey stuff is a bit like in the old westerns.
We just got home after Archie’s haircut. It’s a 44km round trip, not counting going back into town to fill in an hour, so probably more like 69+. He will be so much cooler now. It’s another 30oC day out there!
I think I just have to go to this appointment. I’ll wait outside if I can & take a book & a cold water bottle for each of us.
I am pleased with getting my weight moving down again & have to stop being mean to myself about letting it get to this stage.
