Cate's Diary

Hi Cate,
Yes my father was is in the USAF as is my hubby I was born in Ohio and we moved to Japan for three years after I turned one.I lived in Cali until I met my hubby and I moved to Harrogate England for 2 years and then back to the Santa Babara area of Cali for 2 years and then here to Alice. My children are 2yrs,4yrs and my son is 5&1/2 months.I would not be in a hurry to wean except that he now wants to eat what seems like all day long while I also am keeping tabs on my other 2 little ones:willy_nilly:,he is a big boy over 9 kilos already and he just can't seem to get satisfied he is becoming very fussy I am pretty sure he is ready for some solids I am trying a little rice cereal right now and we shall se how it goes,he already takes bottles of expressed breast milk when I go to work I don't know if he will even be bothered by the difference of formula. The consultant I met with yesterday said it would be fine to comfort feed him still after I start Cohens as long as he is getting other forms of nutrition, so he doesn't have to completetly wean as he will probably want the comfort of nursing to sleep at night.
I imagine you are right I can't think of many better things than to be told you have raised wonderful children.:hurray:I have to run speaking of that Baby calls.TTYL-

Oh dear! I replied to yr post Ca Girl earlier on today & it's gone!!! Aaaaaarrrgghhhhhhhh!
My computer froze & I thought I had actually posted my reply. It was quite a long one........... just for something different! I know I said I was amazed & exhausted just thinking about you having 3 little kids & working? Are you superwoman? I'm impressed! Cohen's will be a pushover for you! I keep singing Beach Boy songs when I see your name. Oh dear.... xoxo SW, Cate.
Today briefly- 2nd time around!
Didn't go for a walk. I spent most of the afternoon doing homework on a surprise for my husband's 60the birthday in November. I was going to have a big party but thought it would be fun to take him back to Vietnam (Hanoi in particular). I have to try to squirrel enough money away for it. Mum's cheque has kick-started the idea. It may not happen but I sure as hell am going to try to make it happen. I have emailed the tour company that we went with last asking for some advice, prices etc.
I won't yabber on tonight. I did that earlier.....Happy losing folks, xo Cate

I didn't realise that I had posted today. I have had a good day with my LH. We had a lazy morning but then finished off the trench by covering the Agi pipe with blue metal. I ate cheese for lunch because I needed to eat something more filling.
I'm struggling a bit at the moment as I am really hungry. The last 2 days I have battled but have stayed 100%. I have to wait one more week though after having eaten the lamb & drunk the bubbly at the barbie. I really wish I hadn't but it's too late for that now.
The next week is going to be a long one!
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend. I am enjoying my LH having 3 days off in a row. He has 3 days off in a row in the middle of the week too. Cheers, Cate

Hi Cate,
My next week will be a long one too and the weight loss has slowed right down too which isn't helping. I keep going up and down. 75...75.5...75...75.5. Today I am on 75 which is good and I hope that tomorrow I stay on 75 and tthen possibly go down a little more during the week. i am also regretting my blow out and wish I had stayed 100%, but this is helping me to stay on track now as I know another blow out means another 2 weeks :ack2:.
Which day this week do you have to go to? I can start refeed on Friday and I think this is exactly what I will do. The first few days don't have that much of a change so hopefully I will be able to fit it in with my work.
Have a great day, Cate. Stay strong.
Take care
beck

Hi Beck, Mine went down 1.5kg in one day & then shot straight back up a whole kilo & then down .5 today. That is why people on the program should only weigh once a month. It does your head in! I ate the lamb on a Friday so next Sat it will have been 2 weeks exactly, 100%. I'll make Saturday my re-feed start too. I can't wait! You are right. I'll be strong. We've come this far so can do this. I just had my lunch (mince stir-fry) & it was yummy. I had it with chillie, garlic, tomato, zucchini, spinach, onion & coriander with my first crackers of the day. I still find the yoghurt/mango breakfast keeps me going 5 hours, no worries. I only have 1 fruit left for the day though, but still have 2 crackers which will help tonight. I just have to get through today & then only 6 more days. That's ok. Couple more kgs would be good, but not to worry. If I don't lose a couple more this week or on re-feed I know I should be able to do it by exercising so that's ok.
I rang my son this morning to visit them & they were about to go supermarket shopping & then were heading into Launceston to go out to dinner with my DIL's sister for her birthday. I went around to their place & minded the 2 littlies for them for a few hours. When they got home the little fella walked right across the room for the first time. We were all so excited, including him. He had only taken a few tentative steps until today. I think he kissed me about 50 times today & my GD about 20! Aaahhhh, being a grandma is so nice.
My LH is playing golf today & will be home about 4'ish so I might go read the paper in peace before he gets home. Hope you are all enjoying your kids &/or enjoying your week-end, xo Cate,(all blissed out from the grandkids......)

Hi Cate,
You are dong such a good job, won't be long now.Sounds like you had great time with the grandkids I'm sure they had fun with grandma too if your anything like my mum is with mine.Howmany grandkids do you have?

Switching subjects I was wondering if you take vitamins while on Cohens and if so what kind? Also on the brochure it says no hunger pangs but everyone I have read say's they are hungry all the time I wanted to have your imput on this since you seem to know what your talking about.Anyway I'd better go,hope you are having a good night.

CaGirl, Yes you must take vitamins. If you can afford them take the ones they sell as they have the things missing from the program. My consultant recommended Blackmores Slow Release multi. Ask them when you are getting your program what they rec.
Hunger- The brochure is right. Sure, you may be hungry at the start, as your body gets used to so much less food. The reason Beck & I are hungry is because we are almost at our goal weights & our bodies are telling us so. In between the start & the end I did not experience hunger & most don't. We may want more food but that is not to say we are physically hungry. Physical cravings went away as well. I am going to try to avoid having them again by really restricting sugar when I finish the program as sugar sets me up for bad eating, bad cravings. I have a little unrefined sugar & I want more. If at any stage you get sweet cravings during the program try taking Blackmore's Sugar Balance & that should help.
Most of us rarely know what hunger really is. It's usually just greed. It starts with the eyes being too big for the stomach but then the stomach catches up!
Our older son has 3 kids, a boy who is 9, a 2yr old girl & then the "baby" who is 13&1/2 mths. They are just gorgeous kids. I have much more fun with them when we are on our own as I dance & be silly & have a ball. They love to dance! I don't let them get away with blue murder though & they take notice when I say no. It's always much easier when they are not your own kids as yours know how to push your buttons & push you to the very edge. They also know that you can go home or take them home & not have to put up with bad behaviour. I love them to death! Silly is different. Silly is fun.xo Cate
Weight- Back down to where those scales just gave me a brief peek 4 days ago. 1kg to go to my lowest weight!!
I wasn't hungry at all yesterday which was good. I also didn't do much exercise. There is definitely a connection there. If you are on minimal calories per day how on earth could your body also cope with much exercise & not tell you it is hungry. Basic arithmetic!
We have an 8-ball singles comp. on today at 1pm. The finals are about to start & then the comp. that my LH organises & runs will be over for another season. I type all of his ladders, flyers etc & I will be pleased to have a break from it as it's boring stuff. He is a born organiser of things & also speaks well at tournaments etc.
6 more days until re-feed. I don't think I can go much further which mentally feels like a bit of a shame. It's a pity we get so tangled up with what the scales say.
Cheers for now, Cate

I had a really good day today. I went with my LH to his 8-ball singles comp & he was runner-up. He had his chances but a really nice youngish player won. He plays in my LH's team in the Winter Comp. & he's very pleasant & a good sport. His wife is lovely too.He went & watched most of 2 weeks of the Aust 8-ball titles & will probably try out this year for the team. I hope so. He loves the game just like my LH does. It's a great community.
We didn't get home until after 7 so I went all day until 7 with the 2 crackers I had with lunch, 1 fruit after lunch, the plain yoghurt I had for breakfast & the cheese, tomato & cucumber I had for lunch. I was ravenous, but when the chicken nuggets & chips, came out for a snack I went for a long brisk walk around the river (about an hour) & the smell & the food was gone. When we got home we had fish & salad & I have had 1 fruit portion since so I still have 2 lots of crackers & 1 fruit to go if I want & I am not hungry at the moment. Yay!
I will do a measure in the morning & weigh & hopefully I have lost a little more....xo Cate

Cate, I think I remember from last time that you get to the point where you just KNOW you are ready to stop. When that point arrives, it is very difficult to keep doing the very strict diet. But, with the continued sensible eating, you'll probably find that over the months you get slightly below where you are when you finish anyway, so it makes sense to do the re-feed once you know you are ready.

On the hunger pangs that Ca girl asked about, I remember being told last time that Chromium tablets help, so a number of us bought those and took them towards the end when things got bad. Do you know if they still recommend the chromium?

As you said, though, for most of the diet, after the first couple of weeks, you really don't miss food at all. When you do, you know you are getting to "the end".

I also remember being told that whatever vitamins we took, not to have those that have a lot of Vitamin B6 in them, because it stimulates the appetite. That's why they recommend only a very few brands. The mineral combination they sell is also very good - I don't have it this time unfortunately. I have been taking a liquid iron supplement which I have found helpful - I was getting run down about 3 weeks ago and started them. They have no nutrients in them so it's not breaking the diet.

Well, time for tea. Guess you are counting down the minutes now, Cate! Well done.

Thanks Niyah & you too! Well done! The Blackmores sugar balance are Chromium & they do recommend them or they did when I did Cohen's initially. I do feel I should be able to drop a little after re-feed as I'm in no hurry or have any wish to get stuck into sugary foods. Lesson learned! I take a new multi now-evidin rec. by my local chemist who is a sports nutritionist. I think it has 50mg of B6 but am having trouble reading it! I was about to type in yr diary & noticed you had typed in mine. Thank you very much for yr compliments. I must take some more photos as I have only a few newish ones & not that many of me big. I used to hide fairly well when cameras were about & haven't got out of the habit. xo Cate

Hi folks! Weight still the same- 1kg to go to LW.
I just got a call from my DIL & she is about to come up to our place as the builders have arrived & the power is going off for the day. They only live 5 minutes away at most. I told her to do this anytime she likes.I will go do a quick vacuum as the little fella crawls about mostly. Didn't drink enough water yesterday & too much diet coke so retaining some fluid today. I hate diet coke. I wish places would stock more diet drinks like diet dry or diet sprite. I keep asking. The golf club do but that's because my LH is assistant bar manager & we buy it & put it in the fridge there. I know I'm much better off drinking water but I can't come at buying bottled water when I have beautiful rain water at home so I take one bottle with me always.
OK. I obviously don't really have anything to say so will vacuum. Where's the vacuum fairy when you need her? (it would be a her, I'm sure) Cheers Cate

The vacuum fairy is feeling a little "off colour" today, so she's explaining to the vacuum elf how to fill in for her. She's still at the stage of explaining what a vacuum cleaner actually is. After that, she's got a detailed mud-map of where in the house to find the contraption, followed by courses on "How to hold the Vacuum Cleaner", "The Vacuum Bag", "Emptying the Vacuum Bag", "How to Get into those Corners", "The Virtues of Moving chairs before your Vacuum", then it's....Hand on, he's got the cord tied around his ears... Oh heck, I think you'd better just do the vacuuming yourself...

Now that was seriously funny Niyah! Loved it. I actually did get that vacuum cleaner out & had it on about 5 minutes & my DIL & the 2 younger grandkids arrived because the builders turned their power off & were everywhere(about 8 people apparently). They stayed until about 4.30 so I never did get back to it. Maybe the elf & the fairy will stop fighting & just go & bloody-well do it for me overnight! At 1 stage all 3 of them were asleep so I got to sit and read my book for a couple of hours.......There's always tomorrow!
Today- Stuck to Cohen's but it is so much more difficult when you are making peanut butter sandwiches etc. I do admire you gals with little kids that do it & stick to the program. Congratulate yourselves!
Only 4 more days of 100% until re-feed on saturday. I have decided that is it for sure.
I might pop back later but it's too early for the westerners amongst us, xo Cate.

I totally agree! I have a hard enough time and don't have ANY of that stuff in the house.

Hi Caz. I read your diary last night & caught up with how you're going. Tell 2Beslim that 160g of Kiwi fruit = 1 fruit allowance. If her fruit allow. is 3 then she could have 480g of kiwi fruit per day which is a heck of a lot-certainly a lot more than 3 actual kiwi fruit! That's why I have them every day and/or mango as it's quite a lot of fruit & I'm a fruitaholic (as well as being a bit of a fruitcake!) Honey Dew melon can be a bit tasteless sometimes but 180g=1 fruit so it's great to snack on. I used to weigh my fruit allowance for the day & would often have a fruit salad made from Mango, Kiwi fruit & honey-dew that I would have a little of when I felt like it during the day. It's delicious & is "legal" on Cohen's.
I find it so hard not picking at or "cleaning up" the leftovers with the grandkids here. I had my YGS for the morning & when he wouldn't eat the Jalna Creamy Vanilla yoghurt(my LH's favourite) with fresh Mango I was horrified & couldn't bear to throw it out so have sat it in the fridge for my LH to eat when he gets home from golf. He'll probably throw it out but that's ok. He'snot a mango maniac. One really good thing is that he spat out the processed cheese I also gave him & just wouldn't eat it. We don't usually stuff like that but had done so to put in sandwiches for the golf club & then someone else rang to say they would help out by making them. I think I'll feed it to our dogs! Yuk!
I still have 1kg to go to my LW (lowest weight after Cohen's) and my body is trying to hang on to it. 1 hour after I have eaten my meal my stomach is rumbling loudly & right now I feel absolutely ravenous. It doesn't matter what I have eaten! C'mon Saturday I say. I think I will do re-feed 100% & actually try re-introducing bread. The milk doesn't appeal at all though. It would be good if my body could get used to having a really good quality bread as I need to have grains of some sort & am not a lover of cereal. (major under-statement- ugh!) It is just such a convenient & filling thing to have, especially when you are out somewhere. The thing I am looking forward to the most is a glass of good, red wine but at the moment a juicy eye-fillet steak would go down well. Oh dear!
I came in here to try to forget about eating & my noisy stomach but I may have to go for a walk I think. I might do some more travel homework. I have a plan....
Cheers for now, Cate

Ha, yeah, I think she was trying to answer a question I aksed about 4 months ago... so yeah.. it was random and weird.

I'm close to re-feed but I have to wait 14 days before I will even check weight because of deviations.. I might be another 14 days from today, because I screwed up crackers yesterday I think.. DOH!

Glad to hear you are doing well... sorry I'm not posting mnuch but reading you daily :)

When I visit (someday!) I'm going to have to meet you!

FlaMie- Thanks for your visit to my diary. I just wrote in yours before coming in here. I have been back on Cohen's for only 4 weeks to lose the weight I foolishly put on over Christmas/New Year. It should never happen again! Cheers, Cate.
CohenInAz- If you come to Australia & don't come to Tassie to see me you will get a mental arse-whooping! We are really central to almost everywhere in Tasmania. You would love it!
Today- Just got back from Tai Chi & feeling fairly blissed out still. I love it! Today was a bit more physical & I am learning ways to make it a bit more so. I am feeling very flexible too & have no trouble doing things that some find impossible, like squatting right down & touching the floor. I can never remember what things are called though afterwards. "Stroking the sage's beard" I can but the rest goes out the window. I will start keeping an eye out for a book I think that shows as many of the exercises as possible. I went for a quick coffee afterwards as most were going today & I didn't want to miss out! My LH was patiently waiting for me to come home for lunch. He was cooking pickel zucchinis when I walked in the door & wasn't starving so that was good. I then made a tuna salad for each of us. He got sun-dried tomatoes, black olives & fetta on his & vinaigrette while I had fresh tomato & my own balsamic dressing w/o oil. It was absolutely delicious. Followed by a fresh nectarine that I had just bought. Mm mmmmm.
Only 1 lot of crackers consumed so far. Yes!!! but 2 fruit.....
I feel wonderful today. I must hold this feeling & remember how good I feel at this weight & how good I feel eating Cohen's food.
I might change my signature soon to something more personal for me. I'll think about it.
We are meant to have the job finished today at our house but the guy hasn't turned up with his bobcat yet. I'm looking forward to being able to park in the garage again & to have the drive more even. He is meant to be here & is very reliable but I'm starting to wonder.I drive past his house on my way home & I noticed he seems to be doing a job at his home so that's fair enough. His wife will be happy. Most tradesman leave their own jobs to last!
Only 2 more full days of 100% & then re-feed on Saturday, regardless. Wee Hoo!!
Cheers for now, Cate.

Hi Cate

I have been reading a bit of your journey to thinness and would like to know your stats from when you started to now? I started Cohen three days ago and had one wobble already but am back on track. Can I ask you, did you ever drink milk in your coffee??? I dont like black coffee and coffee was my love in the morning - and i was wondering if anyone drank just one cup with milk in the morning? Thanks for the diary - it is inspiring!

Hi Skyla, There is no milk at all while on Cohen's, not even a few drops in your coffee. It's black & white. If it's not on the program it's not allowed. I have not gone back to having milk as I no longer enjoy it. I much prefer a long, black to a cappuccino & only have 1 cup in the morning & no more caffeine for the day. Cheers, Cate.
