Cardio /LSD

Cardio Training seems to cause confusion to allot of people . So I thought I would write a few words .... IMO

What is cardio ??
Cardio Training is anything that elevates your heart rate and respiration rate . So you must realise everything you do is cardio.(Training Wise ,Sitting on the couch doesnt count lol)

People also tend to associate cardio training with "Cardio Machines"
Yes cardio can be done on these machines , but even when your not on a typical piece of cardio equipment , you are still performing cardio. The same goes for running,biking,swimming,etc. These are all ways to carry out cardio Training. But in my Opinion they are not the most effective way when it comes to fat loss and fast results . (Only my opinion)

LSD (Long Distance Cardio)
Is often used and overused by people looking for fat loss. Im not against LSD as I used to be an endurance athlete myself , Im just not all for people over doing it. If your goal is fat loss then remember the more of this type of "Cardio" you perform the more efficient you become ,and the less energy you expend.(But you do become fit)

My opinion on where LSD fits in for some one who number one goal is fat loss. .
Keep it SLOW SLOW SLOW And have enough free time to do it
Keep it seperate from your other training
Never use it as a way to FINISH OFF any HITT /HIT
dont train to become an Endurance athlete. .....

Was this supposed to be a comparison post (HIIT vs LSD)? I don't quite get what you're driving at. You seem to undermine yet praise LSD (Long-Slow-Distance) at the same time.

Im saying LSD is good If you want to become Fit (Cardio) ,but the draw backs are that your body does become more effecient at burning calories the more you do it, So if fat loss is your goal then IMO you should leave the LSD alone. But people tend to think its the only way of performing "cardio" when it isn't . And that goes for "cardio" machines . There not the only way of performing cardio.

I do cardio for a hour a time. I wouldn't call it an easy option ;)

I push (I really do push myself) for the full 60 minutes. I am always trying to beat a distance in that hour. I enjoy the challenge of beating my last distance. I like becoming better at endurance.

And while the calorie counter may not be super-accurate I DO enjoy seeing the big '1000' roll around.

As for a calorie counter they are in no way accurate ,and are purely there just to help sell "Cardio machines" etc . There is no way a calorie counter can take into account the Persons fitness level and The rate at which you body expands energy etc . There purely there for marketing reason .

you are becoming better at endurance . Which is great if that's your goal and that's what you enjoy . There's nothing better than smashing your records in endurance training etc , But Its not really great if your goal is fat loss IMO.

Since I do HIIT, it's harder for me to figure out how many calories I burn. I can't find a really good HIIT calculator anywhere and there are so many conflicting stories of whether there is an after effect or not and if you should take that into account. After I'm done everyday, I don't even know what to write down. What a shame.
So I'm getting a heart rate monitor. At least I'll have an estimation of SOME kind. Even though they are supposedly inaccurate. I don't care lol

A heart Rate monitor is completely different to a calorie counting .
Take away your age from 220 and that's your max heart rate you shouldn't be going over that .

You will never figure out how many calories you burn . Thats one of the positive things of HITT Training . Your body cannot regulate how many calories its burns as opposed to LSD . Your body basically throws calories at your body whilst training to cope with the High Intensity of it .

I like to use a car as an example. LSD Being cruise control . After a period of time at the same speed the car figures out how much fuel it and is using and becomes effecient . Where as if your accelerating everywhere you car literally injecting high amounts of fuel every time and your fuel gauge will soon go down .

BTW, My maximum heart rate is 196 and when I check my heart rate I'm almost always 193-195. Cool beans

Well, hmmmm, I've been thinking that I may well be in a little rut and that may explain my minimal results over the last few months. I've just started breaking up my routine with the help of a trainer.
I still like having a target distance for my 15 minute burn as I find it hugely motivating.

I know what yo mean about the calorie counters but I am meaning that I regard it as a motivating tool, to get to the next '00. I keeps me going sometimes. I certainly don't rely on the counter for any kind of nutrition requirements.

I used to run 800/1500/steeplechase/XC at school so I suppose I have a certain comfort zone with endurance training.

No problem . I put an article up about cardio and weight loss dont mix . Have a read if you get chance and see if any of it is relevant to your self . Jay .
