Cannon's Journal

I started making my way back to diaries yesterday, but I still have a lot more visits to make. One nice thing about letting myself go over the holidays is I lost 3 1/2 pounds yesterday. Once I cut the supply of salt I usually have a few good days of water loss. I still need to get back to the gym. I've set Sunday as G Day. I think that will be the big difference for me in 2008--A whole year of the gym.

Aw thanks ladies :). One nice thing about holiday overindulgence I'm seeing that scale move like lightning. I'm still losing water, but its still nice to see the scale moving. Australia day (Thanks Felici) is my goal.

I know its funny with Christmas break and all, but I've been so swamped trying to get things done that I find myself short on time. I need to start finding time again to work out. The weight is flying off right now, but at some point I will hit the end of the water weight. That's when I'm going to want to be working out.

Diet still going good. Exercise still needs work. I'm off to school today and boy do I have no desire to go back. It'll be nice to get paid again--don't get me wrong, but for somebody who prides himself on his patience I'm just about at the end of mine with a few of these kids.

Ah its past that :) However, its mostly my homeroom this year. The other classes are great--my homeroom not so much. I have to decide if the feelings I'm getting now are because of that or because I am starting to run out of patience. Its no service to anybody to teach when you're burnt out--I've seen teachers do that. On the other hand making a career change because your current class is rough is kinda like taking a new job because the project you're working on at the moment is rough.

I'm going out to dinner with a friend tonight. I chose Bennigans because I don't like their fries and I figured I can get a Turkey O'Toole which is a glorified turkey sandwhich and come in well under my calorie goal for the day. I'm kind of happy that I planned this out a bit and that I know what I'm doing. The holiday pounds are melting away. I still have a ways to go, but I'm getting there.

This kind of planning makes so much difference. I love the sound of "pounds ...melting away".... :D

Today was a good day. The kids were pretty good and they are progressing academically. I am a patient person, but it was only a belated homemade Christmas card from a student that got me through the day yesterday. Half of all teachers do quit by the third year. I'm not surprised. However, I reallized the difference between what I'm suffering and burnout. Burnout is when a teacher stops caring and goes through the motions. My aggravation is caused by caring too much. The remedy is different too. The kids are learning and enjoying what I'm doing. I need to find a way with this difficult class to find a way to keep myself happy. If I can do that without using food, I'll survive this year fine.

Howdy Joe,
Glad your doing hood and back on track!
I am sure your student love ya,you sound like a gr8 teacher.
Hope you have a nice Day Tammy

i always admired teachers, they have such a hard job. And for all the aggrivation they get, when you think about it, a teacher spends more time with your kids than you do as a parent.

As a parent of 4 kids i totally appretiate the job you are doing as im sure the parents of your kids appretiate you too. They probably are just to busy to stop and say so, they wont realize it until much later on when the kids are older and perhaps left home at which time its too late to say a simple 'thanks'.

I did a decent job last night, but it could have been a bit better. I had one lite beer and a water, a turkey o'toole sandwich and onion rings, but also split a fried mushroom appetizer. Considering that I was pretty light on calories the rest of the day I was definitely under my maintenance need of 3,100 calories. However, I was probably over my diet goal of 2000.

Well you didn't have a massive calorie blowout (always a possibility away from home), and it sounds like you kept your attitude straight - which is the thing I reckon might count even more!

Good for you!!

How're things going gym-wise?
