Cannon's Journal

Still not doing as well as I should on getting going again with the gym. Once I get going I'm fine. Its getting going that's the problem.

I have now back on the diet for one solid week. The only issues I've had have been social eating which is good. If I only get off the straight and narrow for social events and I plan for them I'll be great. I'm down about a dozen pounds for the week--lots of water and I have about that left to drop that holiday weight. I am going to contact my trainer and get back with her for a bit. At this point I'm going to literally be paying as an incentive to get off my butt. I don't miss apointments and I won't go after school any other way.

oh good going Cannon. As you say, it is easy to stop, but much harder to get going again.

As one of my idols quotes (and i love this quote). "Find a reason to do it, rather than a reason not too" - Sarah Ulmer (gold medal cyclist)

Great job getting back on track and losing the holiday weight. Can't wait to see how your new years goes!! Ah, a trainer, I sure need one of those. They really do help you stay committed.

You know it occurs to me my students behavior is at its worst on monday, the day I least want to deal with it. Fridays I expect, but Mondays is very unusual. I am going to look up my trainer online right now as I have lost her email. I think it really is going to be the best way to get moving.

Does this sound corny? Take time to "arrive" at your sport. You'll get there I have no doubt. Take gradual steps. I too am working at getting active again. I'm waiting for that magic day when I take off and do more than I intended. Just laying the ground work now. Huffin' and puffin.

I just find that when I get going I don't want to stop. I went over 2 months without missing a day before, but now that I'm not working out it is hard for me to get motivated to get going again. I guess that's what they call momentum :)

Well so much for that plan. My trainer is no longer with my gym. Truth be told there were things she did that I liked and things I liked not so much. I do need to get the motivation to go back though and that would have done it. I think I may have to use pure willpower to pull this off or come up with another solution.

Its possible that another trainer is an option although a limited one. Of the three trainers there--meeting one was like oil and water. Another one just rubbed me the wrong way from his ads. The third one may be an option.

Oh good luck with that!!

It's frustrating that you can't return to the previous trainer - but fingers crossed the third one will be even better than the first.

you really need a trainer you can work with and can work with you otherwise it's just an exercise in frustration - raises the heart rate but not much else...

The more I think about it the more I think a trainer isn't what I need. What I need is to make myself go to the gym and its not worth paying a ton of money to get a trainer to trick myself into going. This Friday I'm going to go and then I'm going to make it a regular thing.

Hi Joe!

Maybe finding a workout partner would be good...someone who will help you stay accountable and encourage one another. You don't have to be on the same training level, just someone you can count on to see at the gym.

I would like the same thing myself...I think I would get to the gym and have a more varied workout if I had a workout buddy. I am still looking.

Good luck, Joe!

good for you cannon :)

I think one of the hardest part for me was getting over the 'waiting for somebody else to make me do it' or 'somebody else to do it for me' (which was the preferable option).
I guess sometimes you just got to bite the bullet and jump in feet first :D

ok, then go. io know that what it does it for me is paying for the classes so i have to go...otherwise is just throwing my money away. and exercise buddy might be very helpful. have you tried a challenge? take someone here and make a commitment to them you'll do it. i know it helped me when i did i promised kim i will exercise more.
