Cannon's Journal

So help me out here :)

I have been walking quite a bit and I think I'm ready to take the next step. This summer I want to sign up for a gym. When I do, I will get a trainer to start some kind of preliminary program for me, but I am looking for some of you work out warriors to give me some tips. Is it too early? Am I too out of shape to do much of a program until some more weight is off or will this help my overall program?

its never to early or to late, im 360 and 6'3 in height, im going for about 1.5 hours a day 4 times a week now. u can do it!

just believe in yourself..

If you're 'feelin' it', do it bud. No shame either way. I've been on here almost a year cryin' about what I could and couldn't do and sometimes I just surprise myself but the key is the attempt - be it win, lose or draw ;)

I totally believe that. I just don't want to lay out a lot of money for a trainer and a gym to find out there isn't much I can do but walk on a treadmill. Last time I worked out I was about 100 pounds lighter than this. Jeremy, I'm glad to hear it is working so well for you.

Cannon, if you were a hundred pounds lighter, I'd recommend the kind of weight training I'm doing without hesitation. However, I'm not sure in your case. You might think about posing your question in Steve's journal -- you'll get an answer you can trust.

No, you are not too out of shape to do a program at the gym. There are all varying levels of programs and you aren't looking to emulate someone else's program, you're looking to do what works for YOU. I think it's great because new exercise will give your body a strong message. You're doing great and I look forward to hearing what you find out with a trainer.

I second this. You can definitely do weight training at the gym and with a trainer to show you the "proper" methods.

Hi Cannon. I'm sure you can do more at the gym than walk a treadmill. No trainer would assign such a routine because you would certainly quite, driven by sheer boredom. Tom's idea to ask Steve is a good one. I would also suggest that you meet with a trainer, get a proposal on what you can do, and then ask your physician. It's unlikely that any of these would even charge you for a consultation. When I was initially getting back into the world of fitness after recovering from illness, I went from trainer to doctor a few times just for my own peace of mind and found everyone willing to help. So you know, they also pretty much agreed on the routines and how much I could push myself.

I will try and pop in on exercise guru Steve very soon. The more I think about it, the more I think that I should be in good hands. There is a medically based program here and while I may be the youngest by many years, the price is right and I think it minimizes the risks. Here's a link to what I'm thinking of

Cannon, that may be a good choice for now. It may be a good transitional program to get from where you are now, to the kind of program I'm doing. I couldn't do the one I'm doing at 270 lbs. (I had to walk for 4 months first), so I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be appropriate for you.

And asking Steve is always a good idea.

WOW 25 bucks not to shabby at all...looks good - for sure go look into joining...you can totally up it a notch :D:D:D or 2 or 3 :D:D:D

If you can join that centre on a month by month basis, you have little to lose by giving it a try and a potentially a great deal to gain. With the school holidays coming up too, it would be great to expand your workout options - whether there or elsewhere. Good luck with whatever route you choose. :)

I didn't get my walk in yesterday. The storms came and washed it out so I got up early to take one this morning to make up for it. I'll still be dancing tonight so its a double workout day. My weight is ridiculously high this week and I'm not really sure why. My diet hasn't changed really and I've been drinking a ton of water. We'll see how it goes. I figure as long as I'm doing the right things, the weight will take care of itself.

Wooo......double workout! Good for u!
My weight goes up when i workout alot within a week. And I'll see my bulging muscles on the calves... yeeks. After a while the numbers go down.

I think your weight is ready to plunge with those exercises u be doing! Goin to be fun watching u!
