Cannon's Journal

we are allowed to screw up every now and then, be it by accident or on purpose. we are human, screwing up is what we do. the important thing to remember is that overall health and fitness comes as a result of the average. are you on track more often than not? and to what degree? these are questions to ask yourself. so what if you screwed up 4 days, if those were the only 4 out of 2 months (60 days) then guess what, youre still averaging staying on track 93% of the time. in high school, 93% earns an A! lol.

focus on the small picture, meal by meal, when things are going well and youre sticking to it. think of the big picture, the grand scheme of things overall when things go bad and you need to get back on track. changing your perspective to suit your situation is a big part of staying motivated.

Wow was it great to hear from all of you today. I took something from each of the comments so here goes:

Tom - Thanks, you have really provided some important tips and advice.
Jeremy - I couldn't agree more. The slower you take weight off the less likely it is to come back.

JLynne - Thanks. I do love that saying. I actually took inspiration from the last Rocky movie of all places. Basically the point of the movie was that winning isn't about hitting hard, its being hit hard and not giving up. When I have a lapse I just tell myself, its not going to stop me and I try and keep going.

Tammy - Like you said it'll come off fast and its a great metabolism jump starter too.

Jelly - Thanks :) I really feel like this has been a relay race with me as the baton. The support of people like Crunchy, OhHappyDay, HillbillyLee, and a few others has given way to the support of new people. I hope those who left reach their goals, but I am extremely grateful that fate or providence had our paths intersect when I needed their support.

Valerie - Yeah, events have influenced my over indulging, but I have to take ultimate responsibility. Part of it makes sense. "One of my best friends is getting married and I'd like to toast her" is fine. "I found a quarter in my sock drawer and I'd like to order a pizza" really isn't.

Coach - Gee, you remind me of me a lot :). One thing being this overweight does is it reminds me to look at the big picture. I'm not deluding myself that if I can just lose 3 pounds a day for the next 2 months I'm going to look great ont he beach this summer.

Hi Cannon,
I can relate....I had a weekend of indulging outside my calorie range....and not enough water...I'm trying to get back on track, too. :)

Oh being on track is just so over friggin rated!

Well...ok...so maybe it isn't...but being OFF track had a few good moments ;)
At least it did with my gain.

So...we're back on track taking it one day at a time, right?
:D

Heyo.... just tot I'll come in to see wat u been doing. I am aiming for 15 pounds down by mid jul too! We can do this! U'll dance yr way down... woohoooo!:jump:
Cheers to a better week!

Hi Cannon!! Just catching up on your diary. Sorry to hear you gained. Are you keeping a food diary? Do you use Fitday or something similar? I find it really helpful to actually "see" what I've been eating. Also, remember how many cals you are allowed to have, and try to pace yourself during the day.
Finally, water, water, water!!! I'm not trying to preach at you, just wanted to give you some options. You're on the right track with getting the exercise going, and also knowing this is a lifestyle change, not some quick thing.

Working on getting a picture from the breast cancer walk so I can post it. It is like pulling teeth. Hope to have it up tomorrow.

I danced with an 8th grader today. My regular dance teacher had to go to a graduation. The 8th grader was a prodigy from Russian. I never understood before tonight what they meant about Ginger Rogers doing everything Fred Astaire did backwards in heels. She was wearing I would guess 4 inch heels and trying to avoid being trampled by a guy 270 pounds heavier than her. She did pretty well. She wants to do professional dancing and I think she could. That was my last lesson tonight and I felt pretty good about my progress. Man, it was the hardest workout I've had in a long time. I hope the scale shows it.

I also heard an interview today with an author named Gina Kolata. I want to get her book. It deals with the science of dieting and the difficulty of losing weight and keeping it off. Its pretty anti-diet industry, but I think being knowledgable rather than making things seem hopeless will help in the long run.

Congrats on your dancing class, Cannon. My wife wants to get me into a dancing class, but so far I've successfully resisted. I suppose one day I may break down and do it.

Let us know how that book is; it sounds very interesting.

your last lesson? will u continue dancing? i am crazy over dance movies now. just bought 3 dvds in a month.

wooo.... she's with the new york times rite? let us know if u find anything good to share.:)

Howdy Mr Cannon,
Oh keep those dancing shoes on it's fun and gr8
way of exersicing!! I hope you have a nice holiday weekend,Tammy

Yes the ballroom dance lessons are over. Tomorrow is the wedding. It is something I may pick up again in the future. I did have fun doing it, but I was in a hurry so I paid for 4 private lessons. If I did it again I'd want to do it in a class with somebody I cared about. I'm posting some pictures in the before and action section today and then I'll hit the diaries tomorrow since I'm off for the wedding.

Weight is back to 385, phew! I'm off for my walk now and then to get my car washed and buy a card for the wedding. Pop in on my parents and then come back to hit the diaries before changing.

Yes, have a great time at the wedding! Tell me what kind of wine/sparkling/spirits they had, I'm curious....

Also, glad you're weight went back down! That's an awesome feeling.

The wedding last night was OK. At the ceremony, the priest knocked over 3 candles and I thought was going to burn the church down. I danced a bit and I weighed this morning exactly what I weighed yesterday morning so that's not bad at all. There were caraffes of wine on the table, but with an open bar and me being there 7 hours I stuck with light beer because I wanted to pace myself. On the negative side I probably had 7 of them, but on the positive side that was only 1 an hour. I will ask the bride on Tuesday what the wine was. She'll know. I did receive a lot of compliments about how good I looked.

that's great and you do look great :D its great you posted those pics. you should be very proud of yourself :D i am proud of you :)

a big hug to you,
Lena
