Hope u get to see good numbers soon.

Hiya Cannon. So you've just passed your 1 year mark here and have lost around 80 pounds. Congratulations.

What's the gym story? I scrolled back a few pages in your diary to find out more, but didn't see anything. Were you having trouble making an appointment? I just joined a gym myself, but don't plan to see a trainer. I can see how it would help if you find a good one. Advice: dump them after the first session if you aren't "feeling it". Cerella would agree. ha

I hear you on the fruits, veggies, fiber thing. That is an area I keep saying I need to improve. I did find a good article the other day in a magazine in a waiting room. I wish I'd ripped it out. I emailed the magazine asking for the back issue. It was a bunch of 5 minute meals. Very balanced. Foods I liked. Had fruits and veggies. Did not deprive you of fats, carbs, proteins. It gave a summary shopping list, which I thought was very cool. If they send it to me, I'll send it on to you.

It sounds like there's a definite story here :). Anyway, I did sign up. The gym is not everything I'm looking for. They do have physiologists, but they weren't there today and they'll be there when I'm back Thursday. They have a ton of machines and the environment makes me very non-self concious. I figure that I will stick with it awhile and see if I want to go to a more intense gym and a personal trainer in a few months or if this is adequate. The nice thing is its $25 a month and your commitment is for a grand total of 2 months. After that its a month at a time. Can't really beat that. It gives me access to nautilus (No free weights though :( ) and a number of useful machines.

$25 is cheap! Is that common rate?
Glad ya got your first time done! Thur wld be a better day for you, I am sure. How much wld a personal trainer cost ya?

Congratulations on joining your gym! I'm glad you found one with such a lenient plan. Mine is for a year at 35 a month and 20 more a month for my son. I've been kinda off since last friday. Started getting sick and leaving on vacation tomorrow, but still not feeling well. Stick with it!

Im glad your experience was well adn it is great that you dont have to sign up for a year and such like many others...Im happy you signed up - Im looking forward to seeing you drop that weight form incorperating machines :):):)

If God had decided to make a fat family, he would have made mine. We did have some bad habits growing up, but even more important are our genes. My normal body themperature is about a degree lower than it should be, my pulse rate was the second lowest in my high school class behind the state cross country champion, my blood pressure is not high--its low. These genes have protected me (and my family) from so many of the side effects of obesity. I have never had issues with hyper tension, diabetes, or any other weight related physical malady. However, the drawback is that low metabolism and huge skeleton that I have also makes it harder to lose weight. When I was at the gym yesterday, I found that my blood pressure and heart even under a fairly intense workout stay in a very healthy range. I'm off with my sister to have some fun this morning, but I'm going to try and hit diaries when I get back. I'm looking forward to using the gym for awhile. I'm not sure what a trainer would run me, but having one with me while I work out there probably isn't an option.

I look forward to hearing about your experience at the gym. I'm sure at first it will be a bit daunting, but this is a great new step you are taking in your battle.

You are indeed blessed as far as your bp goes. And you're right, genes play a huge role in this.

Have fun with your sissy :D:D:DOnce you start using those gym machines Im sure the weight will start to fall off - you are incororating somethign you dont do - a new movement ...

Wow! You're a lucky guy to have such healthy numbers. Although, I also have low BP and know it can be a major pain in the ass sometimes.
I think going to the gym is going to be great for you.
I hope you had a great day today!

I'm glad you found that the gym will suit you Cannon. It will be great to feel all that new tension in your muscles and I agree that having that variation in your exercise will be helpful with your weight loss. I hope it all goes well for you!! :)

I just got back from my second day of initiation at the hospital gym. I definitely want more of a weight component. They do have dumbells, but not barbells. They have bars that weigh as much as 20 pounds (Maybe 50) as well. However, the aerobic part is a good workout for me.

I'm doing
7 minutes of recumbant stationary bike
7 minutes of treadmill at a good pace and incline
7 minutes of rowing
6 minutes of eliptical
I'm also doing about 6 or 7 nautilus machines. I know the areobic portion is good for me though, so I'm sticking it out for awhile and I'm going to see what I can add on my own.
