Camila's Comeback!

Yeah!! That's great about weight loss challenges - all the losers win in the end!! :D
Lucky you have TJs there. Here the only organic grocer is Whole Foods - which is pretty pricey. That's why I try to buy stuff in bulk & write a menu for the week - so I only buy what I need - never throw out food ever.
Our local kroger started to carry organic too - they are slightly cheaper the WFs - but they constantly out of something. Like they almost never have lemon, cucumber or tomato. So we have to be lucky!
well done on 156!! :cheers2: awesomeee!

Aw sorry about that Justina. Whole Foods is actually closer to where I live, but I never go there because it is pretty pricey. I'm actually really blessed because there are so many options around me. TJs is really reasonable, and we have a community co-op with all sorts of natural and organic foods and products. I'm thinking about becoming an "owner" there...it's only $25/year and I can literally walk there from my apt. We also have a winter farmer's market and a bazillion farmer's markets in the summertime. I can't wait til they start up again. I live about .5 miles from the best one in the city so walking there is some nice exercise too!

So this morning has been great!! Went on a nice walk (stats below). There are so many beautiful hiking trails along the lake and I took a route that is about 2 miles each way for me. The morning was so sunny (though a chill 33 deg. F) and tons of people were out walking or jogging. People are so friendly around here...at least 10 people said good morning to me :) Also drank a bottle of water.

Challenge Stats:
Exercise: 4.1 miles in 1hr 23 min
Water: Did my 3L for the challenge!

Breakfast
Scrambled organic/cage free eggs with onion, organic black beans, and low sodium soy sauce (weird, I know)

Lunch
Ham on an English muffin!

Dinner
Beef roast, carrots, and a red potato!

I snuck a few bites of a delicious cupcake :banghead:
But I had a tonnnnn of water.

Went to the co-op and got the most gorgeous, delicious looking kale ever. Haven't had dinner yet (it is cooking in the slow cooker) but I am so full so maybe I'll just have a really tiny bit of the dinner, make a juice, and safe the rest!

Happy Saturday, everyone!

MmmmmmMMmmmm.... cupcake!!! LOL I can totally understand how you felt sneaking a few bites. Don't beat yourself up. If anything, try to remember how it makes you feel when you go for another sweet. That's how I've been fighting off my temptations lately. :)

Your meals sounded pretty delicious today, even the cupcake. Maybe tomorrow I'll have an omelet. I seem to have a hard time with healthy breakfast choices for some reason.

Glad you enjoyed your walk. You must be at 100% now?

Thanks, Mandy! Not 100% but getting close! I'm just insanely congested. I've been turning the shower room into a steam room every night...seems to help. I keep waking up in the middle of the night with coughing attacks :-( lasts about 20 min then I'm fine!

The cupcake....it was pretty worth it, not going to Lie! I'm glad I agreed to split one with bf. Small steps lol! At least I'm not out drinking tonight... ;)

Tomorrow I'm going to try and focus on green juices and water!

Hope you all have a great night!

Camillia, great job today! That's a decent walk. :D

Don't feel bad about the cupcake. I probably would have eaten the whole thing instead of just a few bites. :p

Hi folks :) Thanks for stopping by!

This morning I feel worse than I did yesterday. This cough just won't go away and I am so congested!! I thought by now I'd be completely on the upswing, but I guess more steam room for me! Drinking lots of water helps I think. And I am going to try and make a yummy juice. Maybe that will help kick all of the sickness out of me!

I think I am going to do:
-Kale
-Celery
-Apple
-Lemon
-Ginger

Anyways other than my exercise and water for the challenge, today is going to be an easygoing day for me, I think. Not weighing today because I've been drinking water all night.

Happy Sunday to you all!

~Camila~

EDIT: Wow, so I need to thank this place for existing because I truly did not want to juice this morning. I was feeling lazy/sorry for myself that I am sick, etc haha. But I went ahead anyways and juiced. I also have to share that I got a different kind of kale yesterday. Usually I get it from the TJs (and they only have kale in a bag), but they didn't have any organic kale when I went so I went to the co-op instead and found normal kale in a bunch, with big beautiful leaves. My juice tastes soooo much different & not as sweet after using the leaves. I love it. Now the juice, instead of being uber sweet is nice and mild. Had to share!

I'm glad you've found the support you need through this forum. I've also found it helpful.

I really hope you start feeling better soon. I got some bug about a month ago that stuck around for two weeks probably. It sounds pretty similar to what you have.

Thanks Cory. That means a lot. Overall I do feel "better" just this darn cough and congestion.

I also was really tired yesterday...passed out really early. But getting a good sleep was nice, even though I was up periodically throughout the night.

Just got back from an awesome walk. Since my overall goal is to get back to jogging, I'm trying to ease my way back into it with aerobic walks. Today my focus was to get my heart rate higher than yesterday and I definitely succeeded! I did about 2.5 miles in about 45 min. I am really happy with that because it is bitterly cold and windy out, especially by the water. I think it is even supposed to snow later. The other 15 min for the challenge I did cardio inside.

When this cough is gone (hopefully ASAP) I want to start adding in brief jogging sections into my walks. Maybe I will start with 3 or 4 2-minute jogs and work my way up from there. Eventually, I want to be able to do my entire trail (about 4 miles) without stopping. I think I can do it!

Breakfast
Water
A few powerberries
Green juice! (kale, celery, apple, lemon, ginger)

Lunch
1/2 turkey sandwich

Snack
Small serving of fat free cottage cheese (yum...I picked up a new kind at TJs. So perfectly tasty! I feel like I am seriously indulging!)
Organic orange

Dinner
Left over roast beef
1 Red potato

Water
3L complete! :cheers2: Have even exceeded it!

Woo I feel great!

Hey Camila, you are on a roll girl!! You are doing so well. Hope your cough gets better soon. I started feeling a bit fluey today, hopefully it doesn't hit me full on.

Thank you, Mands! I hope you are not getting sick :( It was really miserable for a few days, but I am on the upswing!

Today turned out to be pretty good. Got my hour of exercise in and exceeded 3L of water for the challenge. I am loving being a part of it, otherwise I would probably not be as active. I am getting the urge to amp up my exercise a bit more and can't wait to start doing so. I am thinking of this as a schedule for the coming weeks as it *hopefully* starts to get warmer:

Weekdays:
5:15-6:00 am - 45 min outside walking/jogging mix
6:00-7:30 am - Get ready for work
7:30-4:30 pm - Work + travel time
4:30-5:00 pm - Half hour to an hour workout from video

I don't know, still up for changes. But I really want to start amping it up!

~Camila~

Holly cow you start early!! I have to wake up at 6am...and I can barely make my breakfast! Go you girl!
You have quite a plan worked out for the weekdays - awesome job!
I m glad you made that juice - honestly think it will help you recover + all the water you are drinking!! You are sending your illness packing for sure!!!
Well done on the exercise! x

Oh goodness, I just have to share!

So I love adding chopped or minced vegetables to pretty much everything that I eat. The downside is that I hate chopping on my own because I have a bad hand. Thus, my cooking has been rather limited. Tonight, I decided that I wanted to change that and ventured out to find a food chopper. I looked at a few running $50-$100, then looked up reviews online. Most of them were mediocre at best. Then I came across the Ninja Express Chop for only $20. I was floored to find tons of positive reviews when I looked the product up, so I snatched it up.

One of my favorite things to cook with is onion, but I find, sadly that whenever I get onion I waste it because its such a pain to cut up. I wasn't sure what to expect from the Ninja, but I cut up my onion into some big chunks and set to find out.

Within less than 10 seconds my entire onion was perfectly minced. I was amazed! I am so pleased and am looking up all sorts of recipes now.

Just thought I'd share :)

Thanks Justina! Yes, I am the world's worst sleeper. Way too hyper. I kind of hate it because sleeping is sort of...awesome. And yes the juice definitely helped! It still amazing me how wonderful the process is. I will never be a "non-juicer" again. I can't imagine it, honestly.

Hahaha - we were posting at the same time!!!

Thanks for sharing!
Chopper sounds good!!! Chopping onion in my place is fun...my husband literally have to leave the kitchen - so sensitive.
When i lived in Europe I used to put on my ski glasses (sealed around), here I put some swimming goggles on - I have some hillarious photos!

Hah! We seem to do that often :rotflmao:

Onions have no power over me for some reason! I've never been affected in the way that so many are. Mmmm onion onion onion. I LOVE my onion. Your poor hubby :( At least you had found something that worked, hah! Swimming goggles are actually a very logical, smart solution!

Run water close to the cutting board. The eye irritation is actually caused by a reaction between something the onion gives off and the water in your eyes. If it reacts with water from the faucet first, it shouldn't bother your eyes as badly.

Great tip, Cory!

So today has started off great! Got my hr of exercise in this AM and have had 1.5L of water so far.

Breakfast was great...two scrambled eggs within minced onion, a bit of soy sauce, and organic black beans.

Also made a juice:
4 kale leaves
1 Granny Smith
1.5 celery stalks
.5 lemon
Piece of ginger

Definitely a green juice. It's given me a huge boost!

Happy Monday!

Hi Camila! Thanks for stopping by my diary, I appreciate the kind words. You are rockin' it! I like the way you eat. I've been trying to find a happy place between good lean meats, eggs, loads of veg and fruits. There is little place in my life for simple carbs and processed foods anymore... kale and I have become well acquainted. :)

Keep up the good efforts! I'll be following, too.

Hey, Don! Honestly, eggs are the one thing I will never be able to give up. I know they are high in cholesterol but I just crave them sometimes haha. I like to buy the ones with an emphasis on Omega-3s. Makes me feel a teensy bit better about eating them. But yes I try to keep my emphasis on lots of veggies and fruit. I had never had kale until I joined here and started using my juicer. Ohh goodness am I fond of that leafy green! It's funny...if I do eat processed foods now, I am very sensitive to how they make me feel. Thank you for stopping by! :)

Food today:
Breakfast:
2 scrambled eggs within minced onion, a bit of soy sauce, and organic black beans.

Juice:
4 kale leaves
1 Granny Smith
1.5 celery stalks
.5 lemon
Piece of ginger

Snack:
Cottage cheese
Rice crackers

Dinner:
Organic pizza
Organic orange

And some hot lemon water!

Did all of my water and exercise for the challenge today! Woohoo!

Happy Monday!

~Camila~
