Camila's Comeback!

Camila, I LOVE beets. Just to eat them, not necessarily in juice. They're fantastic. A lot of people don't eat them anymore, but roasted and with a touch of salt and pepper, they're wonderful.

Camila ~ I once read that it takes 4 weeks for you to notice a change in your body and 8 weeks for someone else to start noticing. It is so crazy to think it takes that long, but be patient and I am sure he'll notice!

Glad to hear that you are enjoying the healthy side-affect like your skin, I can only imagine how I would look if I quit smoking!

Good luck with you skinny skirt tomorrow :)

Sarah - Thank you so much for stopping by! I am definitely recording my progress over time. Doing that helps when I start to get down or frustrated with the process. My motivation shoots back up when I see what I've already accomplished!

Cory - That is amazing. I was reading up on their health benefits and was astonished to see how fabulous beets are. I don't know we never ate them growing up so when I heard about beet juice I was like huh. The first serving was a bit overwhelming to say the least haha. I'm not sure that the combination I tried did the beets justice. I will definitely have to play around some more. But wow is the color gorgeous!

Megan - I will definitely keep that in mind. I am just about two weeks in now and for some reason today I feel very bloated and like I haven't made any progress. Patience...I must learn patience!!

Sooo....today was awesome! My job search is over for now...I got promoted at work!!! Instead of an intern I will now be a full-time Junior for the next three months. After that, if all goes well, I will officially be hired on full-time! Woohooo. And now for my stress to be through the roof!

Also, I came home this afternoon and did my typical afternoon weigh-in (it is a thing for me now..lol). I honestly feel so bloated and heavy today...I expected to be up. NOPE! 155.5!! Woohoo! Honestly, the reason I am so anxious about getting past the 155 mark is because in past attempts I have gotten down to about 155 and given up. It is such a psychological thing. I will feel immensely better once I am past that!

I am feeling kinda hungry so I think I shall go make a green juice! Then it is time to make dinner for the boyfriend! :)

Hope you have all had a great day so far!

wow well done on the promotion! You go girl!!
I usually drink just one glass of juice a day - but i think you can get away with a few glasses without any problem at all- in fact actually quite the opposite. I suggest you watched "fat, sick & nearly dead" on netfllix (if you haven't yet) - it gives you tons of details and very interesting too.
I agree with Megan - people usually start to notice after 8 weeks. Good luck with that!

Thank you for the insight Justine. I actually LOVE "'Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead." It is an amazing movie! Also, I have been loving Food Babe! Thank you so much for turning me onto her! Lots of great info and insight on her blog. I was reading a post the other day about how she used to always eat Chik-fil-A! Haha. I would have never known.

Ughhh. I had my green juice then for dinner we made some organic free range chicken. I opted for couscous on the side while boyfriend had divine looking mashed potatoes. I caved and had my own serving. It was so weird though. Being that I haven't really had any "bad" food in awhile, the taste of the potatoes was wayyy more pronounced. They were so delicious, but I feel really guilty.

To make myself feel better I boiled some water and squeezed some lemon and ginger in there. It is delicious!

Hey...
I m happy you like food babe - she makes her own version of chic-fil-a.
My fave dish she has on her website is the fast food burrito I do a 12-batch every month & put them on my freezer - I can just use them when I don't feel like cooking.
Your food: try pearl cous cous!!! I love that! I make it with fresh mint & feta (and some home-made olive oil-lemon dressing) its to die for!!
Try to get your boyfriend into what you are eating. You know my husband before we started to live together (2 years ago) lived solely on fast food & drank like a gallon of diet soda a day. Now he starts the day with green juice, asks for salad for lunch & haven't touched diet soda in months!!

Oh my word!!! You need to tell me your secrets! He will eat some healthy things, but is extremely resistant to "new, weird" food. I made him try one of my green juices and he hated it! He does like salads and fruit and raw veggies so that's good.

The thing with him is...he (along with his entire family) is blessed with this really high metabolism. He is trying really hard to gain weight. Opposites attract, right?

I haven't even ventured into food babe's recipes yet. That was my plan tonight, actually! Get some ideas for my next grocery shopping trip. :)

Oh also, she totally got me to start drinking hot lemon water...it is soo good!

So today is my last Friday off before I officially start working full-time! I slept for 10 hours (it was amazing!) and now I definitely want to go out and do something with my day. Now I've said I want to step up the juicing so I think I will start today. Since I've been feeling weirdly bloated I decided to incorporate a good portion of celery into my juice this morning. I also wanted to experiment a bit so my juice consisted of:

-celery
-apple
-cucumber
-lime
-mint leaves

(I am also munching on a delicious organic carrot! yum)

I have to say...it is delicious! It is very light and refreshing and a beautiful light green color. The best part is actually being able to taste the celery and cucumber. Not so much that it is overpowering but enough to know that it is there and doing me good! I could totally see myself switching off between this and beet juice in the mornings. I also want I convenient way to take juice to work with me. I have no water bottle or anything right now. I think a shopping trip is in order today!

Hope you all have a great day!

~Camila~

Oh P.S. - I tried on the skinny skirt this morning as it has officially been 2 weeks...It went on even easier than it did last week! I didn't even have to suck in lol Woohoo! My motivation has been renewed!

Sooo just weighed in at 155! Half a pound is still a loss! That makes a total of eight for me so far. Ten is soooo close!!

I'll share a bit from my shopping trip...I wanted to get some new work clothes so I stopped in at Express. Found two sweaters that I really liked and dared to grab mediums. Before I could squeeze into a medium but it was pretty uncomfortable. When I went to try them on, I was floored to see that the mediums fit me really comfortably and I was actually really happy by my reflection! This was the first time I had fun clothes shopping since I can remember. Yay!

(And they were on sale which was even better.)

Thank you for the encouragement, Trusylver :)

I had the rest of my salmon and a portion of couscous for lunch and some rice crackers on the side. Afterwards I felt sooo sleepy, no idea why. Maybe because my water intake has been pathetic today? I remembered how the beet juice made me feel last time sooo...made my second juice of the day..

A beet
1 large carrot
1 green apple
3 Celery stalks
1 Cucumber
Tiny piece of ginger

This one is actually much more delicious than my first beet juice. It's not too sweet...just perfect. I sort of wish I had added another carrot. I probably won't drink the whole juice right away, and save some for the morning. Also...I am sort of addicted to juicing. :-/ I guess there are worse things to be addicted to, right?

Hey you Juicer-buddy! Doing fab! well done on the loss!
How i got my husband into healthy eating? slowly...step by step. It all started when we watched "Food Inc", then "Food matters".
They "dying to have known", "forks over knives" & finally "genetic roulette". He started to do more research - so much so - that now he is seriously considering doing a degree in nutrition. He is doing CLEP in Chemistry & Biology. So it's pretty exciting.
I also made some of my signature dishes he really enjoys:
- Greek pasta salad
- Fresh (home made) basil pesto pasta
- Rice salads
All of them take 20 mins (tops) to make. If you want, I can give you the recipes :)

Awesome job on the skinny skirt!
Go girl!

Justina -- Yes, I would love recipes!!! I am trying to start a little recipe book full of healthy go to recipes. So yes...recipes!! Those all sound absolutely delicious! I was thinking of having him watch one of the documentaries with me. But he's the guy who knows how McDonald's chicken nuggets are made and still eats them once in awhile, haha. :puke: I think I have to start realllly small. Like tonight I am making spaghetti and everything is organic lol. Now lets see if he actually notices...

hey - what I did was - I watched Star Wars - all of them!! Very long: 13 hours in total!!! - so in exchange I got to pick some movies!!! :) try that - I ll send you an email with the recipes...
As for the documentaries maybe start with food inc - its not strictly about food & such an eye-openner - very interesting too.

Thanks for the recipes! Cannot wait to try them out! Will work on the boyfriend...hahah[/COLOR

Oh boy so yesterday my calorie intake was probably a bit high.As most of you know, I'm not really a calorie counter. I've gotten pretty good at listening to my body. Well my body was full after a portion of spaghetti and a breadstick...but then I had another breadstick! Blah. Oh well. I guess the way I look at it is a.) I could have done much worse! and b.) I've been pretty good since beginning this lifestyle change, and there are going to be those days.

No idea why though. I haven't had cravings for a long long time, but yesterday I wanted to eat everything!! Seriously, candy, chips, pizza. I would have caved in but thankfully we were so tired we just went to bed.

Today is going to be another challenge. There is this new pizza place my boyfriend wants to try, and I told him awhile ago that we'd go. So that's what we are doing today. Thankfully, I researched the place and they have some nice healthy options! Lots of salads and some soups...so I think I will try to decide what to eat before I go. I always feel much more prepared when I do that.

I also really need to up my water intake today. Yesterday wasn't too bad but I didn't drink as much as I wanted. So that is the focus today!

Also...we got more snow last night! Ugh I want warmer weather so I can go outside! Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Morning Juice: Apple, Lime, Kale, and Broccoli. Good but a bit too sweet for me. I'm only going to have one juice today.

Congratulations on the new sweaters Camila! Amazing how a new pair of jeans or nice sweater can have that big boost to our self image and motivation! I know, it does the trick for me! I actually like going clothes shopping now, and I never have in the past because the stylish clothes I liked never came in my size (for good reason, they would have probably looked horrible!)
Keep up the good work and the scale will show progress a little at a time...that's just the way it is!
Sarah

Thank you for the encouragement Sarah. I really needed it this morning.

Oh boy...so our innocent date yesterday got out of hand pretty quickly. After we ate I was pretty pleased with the meal choices I had made. We then met two friends at a nearby bar. What I thought would be just a glass of wine turned into an all night St. Patrick's day celebration. :cheers2: Drinking, and Mexican food to end the night. Don't get me wrong, we had a blast, but I was sure I had erased a big chunk of progress that I have made. Lol...so as a "punishment" or reality check I forced myself on the scale this morning to see with my own eyes the damage I'd done. I nearly talked myself out of it, but I eventually stepped on.

Surprisingly...the scale hadn't changed. Talk about luck of the Irish...But it definitely scared the daylights out of me. It is very unusual for us to go out like that two weeks in a row...and we agreed we will not do that again for a long time.

Anyways, that is all for now. Hope you have all had great weekends!

~Camila~
